News : Pusha T President of G.O.O.D Music

It was just last week that we were watching G.O.O.D. Music president Che Pope detail everything we wanted to know about the music industry from Yeezus and beyond in his lecture at Red Bull's Music Academy Paris. Today, his reign comes to an end as Pusha T is named the new president of Kanye's famous label as reported by Billboard.

The conversation began when Kanye called Pusha up and the deal came together from there since both artists share a similar outlook. "I think that artistically, me and Kanye have the same vision... I just look at capitalizing on everything that I feel like G.O.O.D. Music brings to the music industry, our following, and the culture," Pusha explained of his new role. He goes on to say the next five months will be about "really executing all the different avenues of music, art, culture and fashion as well." He even teases that another Cruel Summer compilation album could be coming.

Back in June, Lupe Fiasco hinted to us that he had a new project on the way called Pharaoh Height 2/30. While nothing has come of it since, Lupe decided to surprise his fans Saturday morning by sharing the project for free on twitter.

Laced with only 6 tracks, the featureless project finds Lupe experimenting with some different sounds and beats, but still has him bringing that lyrical heat of course though. It presumably serves as the sequel to his 2006 mixtape Farenheit 1/15.

With the Model S, Tesla proved that all-electric cars can move fast. The Porsche Mission E Concept proves they can charge fast, too. This yet-to-be-greenlit looker is powered by a pair of motors producing a combined 600+ hp, good for a 0-62 time of under 3.5 seconds, and a world first 800-volt drive system that allows for incredibly fast charging, as in an 80% charge, or enough to go nearly 250 miles, in just 15 minutes. The car promises to handle well, with both all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, and despite the sleek design of the aluminium, steel, and carbon fiber reinforced polymer body, still offers four full doors and four single seats. All that's missing is a release date.

Belgian rapper/singer Stromae has shared a beautiful and haunting new video for his track, “Quand C’est?” — or in English, “When Is It?” The dark track “explores the pain caused and inevitable fear of cancer,” according to a press release, and the black and white visuals are reminiscent of the spooky and stylized look of the indie game Limbo, and features some deft silhouette work. The video was created by Stromae’s artistic collective Mosaert. Check it out.

Last time we checked in with Omate around this time last year, they were coming out with the Omate X, designed to be a fashionable smartwatch. It was fashionable for the time, but in light of what’s come after in the world of fashionable tech, it looks pretty pedestrian in hindsight. Omate is hoping that their newest wearable, a smart ring made in partnership with French design firm Emanuel Ungaro, will better stand the test of time.

The choice to move to a smart ring reflects one increasingly popular interpretation of the wearable — that unlike smartphones, wearables should have only a few carefully chosen features, designed to not attract too much attention to themselves. We’ve seen this idea implemented in programmable wearables that only send you notifications from apps or contacts that you specify — Tyia and Ditto, for example.

This Ungaro ring might be taking things a little too far. The ring will only vibrate (no light or sound) when a single designated contact sends you anything, be it a call, text message, or social media message. That’s simple, I guess, but I don’t think it’s a good reflection of how people actually live unless your significant other forbids you from having contact with anyone else, ever. Seems silly to say, but important messages can come from a lot of people. It seems unlikely anyone would want to narrow down notifications to just one person.

The good news is that the partnership with Emanuel Ungaro has resulted in a more stylish product, if a bit ostentatious. The ring itself is large, paired with an equally large inset gemstone. The ring can be ordered in gold or silver, while you have your choice of blue topaz, opalite, onyx, sapphire, and ruby for the gemstone. The ring will be assembled by the Richline Group, a prominent player specializing in jewelry tech, in a workshop in Arezzo, Italy. It will go on sale through them in November for between $500 and $2,000.

The year in hip-hop was (once again) ruled by Drake.

That's according to the just-released BET Hip Hop Awards nominations, where Drake leads with 12 nods. He led last year's nominations too, with eight. Just behind Drake are Big Sean (10 nominations), Nicki Minaj (nine) and Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole (eight each).

L’enfant terrible of pop, the one and only Nick Jonas is ready to slay again the charts with upcoming new album, which serves as the follow-up to his acclaimed second solo studio album “Nick Jonas“, released 10 November 2014 via Island and Savehouse.

After the huge success achieved with “Jealous” and “Chains“, Jonas is also busy in more serious acting projects, TV show Kingdom, in which Jonas stars as boxer Nate Kulina, begins its sophomore season this fall, and also on Ryan Murphy’s highly anticipated Scream Queens, which premieres in September.

The new single called “Levels” was released on August 21st. Jonas will perform the song live for the the first time on TV during 2015 MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show on August 30th.

The funky-infused song was written by Sean Douglas, Talay Riley, Ian Kirkpatrick, Marcus Lomax, Jordan Johnson, Stefan Johnson and Sam Martin.

The music video directed by Colin Tilley was premiered during the VMAs through Vevo on Sunday 30th.

News : Tyler Remarks On Ban From UK

After being reportedly banned from the U.K. due to his controversial lyrics, Tyler, the Creator is lashing out at the government, claiming they're treating him like a "terrorist."

Last week, the American rapper tweeted he was banned from the U.K. "for 3-5 years" by the country’s Home Office policy, which cited “behaviours unacceptable in the U.K.” due to lyrics written years earlier. The lyrics come from songs on his 2009 mixtape Bastard as well as a song from his debut studio album, Goblin.

During an interview with The Guardian, Tyler shared his feelings on the situation.

“Now [the U.K. government] are just followers,” Tyler, the Creator told The Guardian. “Everyone is a follower, just following what other countries are doing. Now I’m getting treated like a terrorist.”

Tyler was referring to also being banned from New Zealand in 2014, and facing backlash from the Australian group Collective Shout, which started a campaign that ended in the rapper’s Australian tour being canceled.

The rapper tweeted about the situation after he was held in a detention room and turned away from the U.K. border:

BASED ON LYRICS FROM 2009 I AM NOT ALLOWED IN THE UK FOR 3-5 YEARS ( although i was there 8 weeks ago) THAT IS WHY THE SHOWS WERE CANCELLED.

In his interview with The Guardian, Tyler says doesn’t believe that those lyrics from years ago represent the artist he is now.

“It’s based on things I made when I was super-young, when no one was listening [to my music],” Tyler said.

According to the government papers given to Tyler, The Creator, he won't be allowed to return to Britain for another three to five years, which is when the U.K. Home Secretary will review the decision.

Gadgets : Ditto Bluetooth Notifier

After publicity and a Kickstarter late last year, excitement grew around Ditto, a tiny device that promised to notify you only when it was important. Once meant to be shipped in January or February of this year, the buzzer is finally ready to ship next week, and it’s going to put you in control of notifications.

Notifications have gotten out of hand, with incoming texts, calls, social media activity, people following you on Twitter, app updates, and whatever LinkedIn is bugging you about. It’s gotten to the point where paring down those notifications app by app has become a near-insurmountable obstacle on its own, or at the very least a chore.

Ditto allows you to program which notifications are worthy of your immediate attention. Using a Bluetooth connection and an app — there’s no kind of interface on the device itself — you can specify notifications, down to calls or messages from individual contacts, and assign them to different vibration patterns. Any other notification will go to your phone, which ideally will be out of sight and unable to distract you.

So, it’s a programmable buzzer. Not the most exciting thing in the world, and certainly not the first time we’ve seen the idea in action — the Tyia band does the same sort of thing with vibration and light patterns, and looks a lot more chic doing it. That said, there’s nothing out there as simple and cheap as Ditto.

What extra features there are have been added thoughtfully. There’s a clip if you want to attach the Ditto to clothing, or you can grab a band and wear the device on your wrist — underwater, if you like, thanks to a waterproof exterior. And, being a Bluetooth device, Ditto can alert you if you’re forgetting your phone, buzzing when you get out of Bluetooth range and the connection between Ditto and your phone is broken.

Lil Dicky’s debut full-length album, Professional Rapper, opens atop Rap Albums (dated Aug. 22) with 22,000 copies sold in the week ending Aug. 6, according to Nielsen Music. The comedic rapper (real name: David Burd) also enters at No. 1 on Comedy Albums and No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Lil Dicky first found viral success on YouTube in 2013 after releasing a video for the track “ExBoyfriend,” which has amassed nearly 11 million global views through Aug. 11. The album and its supporting music videos was funded in part by a Kickstarter campaign, which raised $110,000. The set features big-named guests like Snoop Dogg, T-Pain and Rich Homie Quan.

The set’s title song, which features Snoop Dogg, crowns the Comedy Digital Tracks chart, arriving with 5,000 downloads. An animated video clip for the song has logged 1.7 million worldwide YouTube views since its July 31 release.

In total, 10 cuts from the album debut on Comedy Digital Tracks, including one of his most popular viral hits, “Lemme Freak” (2,000 downloads). The song has over 6 million views on YouTube and was Lil Dicky’s first charting song, when it debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists chart (dated Oct. 11, 2014).

The release of Professional Rapper causes Lil Dicky to debut at No. 47 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart.
