News : Tyler Remarks On Ban From UK

News : Tyler Remarks On Ban From UK

After being reportedly banned from the U.K. due to his controversial lyrics, Tyler, the Creator is lashing out at the government, claiming they're treating him like a "terrorist."

Last week, the American rapper tweeted he was banned from the U.K. "for 3-5 years" by the country’s Home Office policy, which cited “behaviours unacceptable in the U.K.” due to lyrics written years earlier. The lyrics come from songs on his 2009 mixtape Bastard as well as a song from his debut studio album, Goblin.

During an interview with The Guardian, Tyler shared his feelings on the situation.

“Now [the U.K. government] are just followers,” Tyler, the Creator told The Guardian. “Everyone is a follower, just following what other countries are doing. Now I’m getting treated like a terrorist.”

Tyler was referring to also being banned from New Zealand in 2014, and facing backlash from the Australian group Collective Shout, which started a campaign that ended in the rapper’s Australian tour being canceled.

The rapper tweeted about the situation after he was held in a detention room and turned away from the U.K. border:

BASED ON LYRICS FROM 2009 I AM NOT ALLOWED IN THE UK FOR 3-5 YEARS ( although i was there 8 weeks ago) THAT IS WHY THE SHOWS WERE CANCELLED.

In his interview with The Guardian, Tyler says doesn’t believe that those lyrics from years ago represent the artist he is now.

“It’s based on things I made when I was super-young, when no one was listening [to my music],” Tyler said.

According to the government papers given to Tyler, The Creator, he won't be allowed to return to Britain for another three to five years, which is when the U.K. Home Secretary will review the decision.

News : Drake Tells Rihanna Not To Come Crying When She's Lonely

News : Drake Tells Rihanna Not To Come Crying When She's Lonely

Drake has reportedly told Rihanna not to "come crying" to him when she's lonely.

The pair have had an on/off relationship for years and are thought to have split up once again last month. Drake is thought to have viewed Rihanna as marriage material when they were together, but has now accepted that things will never work between them.

"He gave his whole heart to Rihanna and he feels she stomped on it," a source told British magazine Heat. "He told Rihanna's best friend, Melissa Forde, that Rihanna should forget his face, forget his number and never call or come crying when she's hurt or lonely."

Rihanna has always been caught between Drake and her other ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. Although Chris assaulted her, resulting in their splitting, in 2009 she went on to give him other chances. They eventually went their separate ways last year but are thought to have remained close, which irritated Drake.

Chris recently completely a stint in jail linked to a violation of his probation for assaulting Rihanna, with Drake laying down the law when his release date rolled around.

"Rihanna can't stand it when a man tries to control her, and that's what Drake seemed to be doing when he asked her not to speak to Chris when he left prison," the insider said. "They had a massive row. No guy has every treated her as well as Drake has, so Rihanna is feeling a sense of loss. But she has such an ego and pride that she's incapable of saying 'sorry'."

News : Lil Wayne In Critical Condition After Suffering Another Seizure

Rapper Lil Wayne was reported to be in critical condition and in a medically induced coma in a Los Angeles hospital on Friday after suffering seizures, according to celebrity website TMZ.

TMZ.com, citing unnamed sources, said Lil Wayne, 30, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was in intensive care after suffering multiple seizures earlier this week.

Wayne's representatives did not return calls for comment.

TMZ said the rapper, 30, was admitted to Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles and was released on Wednesday, but readmitted a few hours later after his bodyguard found him unconscious on the floor of his room.

Lil Wayne, a native of New Orleans, began rapping at the age of nine, when he became the youngest artist to be signed by Cash Money record label.

The "Got Money" rapper has released nine studio albums over a two decade career and has become one of the biggest names in rap music.

News : White House Petition to Make R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix)” the National Anthem Goes Viral

News : White House Petition to Make R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix)” the National Anthem Goes Viral

This is probably not what the White House had in mind when they made petitions searchable on WhiteHouse.gov.

S.R. of Wilmington, North Carolina has created a petition to make R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix)” the new National Anthem of the United States.

The petition, posted on WhiteHouse.gov, reads as follows:

As of October 3, 2011, petitions that met the listed criteria became searchable on WhiteHouse.gov once — and if — they reach 150 signatures within 30 days. If that was accomplished, for President Obama to actively consider a petition, it must have reached 25,000 signatures within the remainder of the same 30-day period.

The White House has always reserved the right to change the time limit and number of signatures required, and did exactly that in the wake of a petition that urged the U.S. government to begin construction on a Death Star to be completed by 2016.

Now a petition must reach 100,000 signatures within 30 days.

News : J. Cole Lost Two Of His Favorite Beats To Nas, Rick Ross

News : J. Cole Lost Two Of His Favorite Beats To Nas, Rick Ross

Nas' 10th LP Life Is Good is an engaging listen from start to finish, but for J. Cole, there's one particular track on the Grammy-nominated album he just can't bear to play. That would be "Stay," the beat for which he desperately wanted for his debut, Cole World: The Sideline Story.

Earlier this month, the Roc Nation rapper shared five unreleased tracks on his Truly Yours EP, and one of them was his version of "Stay," originally recorded in 2009 during a session with No I.D.

Cole told MTV News that No I.D. was the first producer he ever got in the studio with, during what he called a "life-changing experience," just six months after signing his record deal with Jay-Z.

"We did the most incredible songs in one week. We did 'Not Too Late,' 'Stay,' 'Never Told' and a few more joints that haven't even come out yet," he explained. " 'Stay' was towards the end of the process — he just looped up this sample, and while he's looping up the sample, I'm writing the words, and before you know it, I have the song.

" 'Stay' was my favorite song that was absolutely going on my first album, but I guess I'll just chalk it up to my inexperience in the game," Cole added.

Cole, still new to industry, didn't realize that he had no claims to the beat until he actually paid for it. And by the time he'd made a decision, it was too late. "As time goes on, I'm not solidifying it, which basically means I'm not locking down the beat from No I.D. Long story short, I didn't buy that beat from No I.D., and Nas bought that beat," he said, clearly still remorseful. "He didn't even know I did a joint on it either. I don't even know if he knows, but I had that sh-- first."

When Cole finally reached out to No I.D for "Stay," he got this response: "Yo, Nas got that beat."

"That taught me a lesson real quick: If you want a record, you have to put some money down on it," he said. "Honestly, I heard Nas' joint one time, and I can't listen again. It's hard for me. It's rightfully his record, he put it out first, and he killed it too, but I can't listen."

Getting burned twice will really make that lesson stick, and he learned once again with a song that later appeared on Ross' Teflon Don album. "The same thing happened with 'Tears of Joy.' I smacked myself. That's two classics that was supposed to be mine," he said. "But 'Tears of Joy,' I couldn't have did what Ross did on that, because [I] was in a bad place. Me and No I.D. was in the studio, but the label was on me about some hits, so it was a bad session. I squeezed out a verse on 'Tears of Joy,' but I was not in a good place to do anything close to what Ross did on that. But I still smack myself about those."

News : Emmett Till's Family Addresses Lil Wayne In Writing

News : Emmett Till's Family Addresses Lil Wayne In Writing

On the unofficial release of Future's "Karate Chop(remix)," Lil Wayne pushed the envelope too far, drawing waves of criticism for a controversial reference to Emmett Till. The provocative verse almost immediately got a response from Till's cousin Airickca Gordon-Taylor, who even penned an open letter to Weezy this week, airing out her concerns.

In the letter via VIBE she wrote, “When you spit lyrics like, 'Beat that p----y up like Emmett Till,' not only are you destroying the preservation and legacy of Emmett Till’s memory and name, but the impact of his murder in black history along with degradation of women.” She continued on, appealing to Lil’ Wayne not as a celebrity, but as a father himself saying, “ How would you feel if your child was beaten beyond recognition, body mutilated and disfigured, tortured for hours, unnecessarily shot after being BEATEN TO DEATH...”

However, Ms. Gordon-Taylor concluded her letter on an uplifting note adding, “Together we can ignite a modern day movement. You would be a great asset to the struggle.” As she told the Chicago Sun-Times on Wednesday, it is neither her nor the foundation’s desire to villainize or defame the New Orleans born rapper. We just want Emmett's name removed from that song,” she said.

Though Weezy has yet to comment on the controversy, Future spoke out on his behalf. Friday night, he told MTV News, "The record it was done from a good place, good art, he ain't have no bad intentions when he was thinking about it like that. It was used in a different way, but I understand it," he said. "So at the end of the day we're gonna move on from it and find a way to build."

News : Lil Wayne Apologizes For Comments On LeBron James, But Not About Chris Bosh’s Wife

Lil Wayne stirred up controversy over NBA All-Star Weekend after taking shots at the NBA, the Miami Heat, and Chris Bosh’s wife.

Last night, Wayne called up to 99 JAMZ in Miami to clear the air. He apologized for his comments about LeBron James, saying that he and LeBron are homies and he has a good relationship with his mom. However, he stuck to his word about his statement on sleeping with Bosh’s wife.

Later in the interview, Wayne explained how the beef between him and Dwyane Wade started. It stems from a recent Heat vs. Lakers game where they had a heated exchange.

News : Swizz Beatz Joins Monster As Investor, Board Member

News : Swizz Beatz Joins Monster As Investor, Board Member

Swizz Beatz announced on Wednesday he has joined the creative and marketing team at Monster Cable Inc., lending additional star power to the audio company's already heavy line-up of celebrity backers.

As part of the arrangement, Beatz, whose real name is Kasseem David Dean, has become an equity investor in Monster and is now a board member of the privately held San Francisco maker of headphones, cables and other audio gear.

Monster began beefing up its line-up of celebrity ambassadors last year to begin preparing for its split-up with Beats Electronics, founded by Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. That relationship expired at the end of 2012 when Beats began to design, manufacture and distribute its own products rather than rely on Monster. Beats products had made up 50% of Monster's revenue.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Monster rolled out the red carpet for its celebrity partners and endorsers, which included singer Sheila E, actor Nick Cannon, rapper Xzibit and boxer Sugar Ray Leonard.

Swizz Beatz' involvement goes deeper than the typical celebrity endorsement, said Monster's chief executive, Noel Lee.

"Swizz will advise us on our creative direction, product design and our marketing," Lee said. "We'll be looking to him to tell us what's next. He's the real deal. He doesn't get involved in something unless he believes in it."

Technology companies have long tapped celebrities to help them connect with consumers. But those relationships have been getting more serious in recent years as artists and technology companies saw how Dr. Dre and Iovine drive headphone sales by being owners, investors and product designers. Now it's common for artists to get titles, paychecks and equity in the companies they link up with. Just last week, Alicia Keys, Beatz' wife, joined Research In Motion as the Global Creative Director for BlackBerry devices.

What remains to be seen, however, is how involved celebrities will get in these companies, how hard they will push those brands and whether their work will yield dividends for the companies that sign them up.

Monster's strategy for celebrity involvement is one of market segmentation. Working with Electronic Arts Inc.'s EA Sports label, which helped bring in Sugar Ray Leonard, Monster is looking to appeal to video gamers and sports fans. Sheila E's marketing campaign is targeted at women. Nick Cannon is helping the company reach out to a younger demographic. And Xzibit generally speaks to the same urban, hip-hop crowd as Dr. Dre.

As for how Beatz will work with the company's other stars, Kevin Lee, Monster's vice president of corporate strategy, said, "He is part of the Monster brain trust, helping us innovate on how we connect to the consumer."

The 34-year-old hip-hop artist and producer has advised a number of other consumer brands over the years, working with Reebok as Vice President of Sports Style Marketing and Design and Lotus Cars as Vice President of Creative Design and Global Marketing. He's also worked with French fashion designer Christian Louboutin to produce a cabaret show called "Feu." He also has a partnership with O&Media, helping the South Korean company bridge the K-Pop music scene with Western music culture.

Before joining Monster, "I analyzed and studied the company for a couple of years," said Beatz. "It felt like this is the right time to be in business together. I have a seat on the board. I am a co-owner. This is a graduation for Monster, and it's a graduation for me. For Monster, it shows they are investing in the culture. They are not doing things just to get by. In the next few months, the world will see who the monsters are in this world."

News : The Bizarre 20-Year Ride Of Two Pharcydes

News : The Bizarre 20-Year Ride Of Two Pharcydes

Two decades and two months ago, an unruly, exuberant quartet of rappers from South Central Los Angeles called The Pharcyde loosed their debut album upon the world.

Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde delivered what it promised and remains one of rap's rarities: a complete artistic statement. From a dozen songs and four skits emerged a concept album of shaped chaos. You could call it a portrait, if portraits reached out with eight arms, grabbed you by the collar and blew weed smoke in your eyes. The four members of the group — Derrick "Fatlip" Stewart, Tre "SlimKid3" Hardson, Emandu "Imani" Wilcox and Romye Robinson — combined the tag-team emceeing of the Cold Crush Brothers with sophisticated sophomorics over the soul-jazz stomp of tracks banged out by producer John "J Sw!ft" Martinez. During a time when L.A. hip-hop was defined and dominated by gangster rap, The Pharcyde was Southern California's answer to New York's Native Tongues movement: colorful, facetious, fun, and utterly authentic. They packaged themselves almost like a novelty group: Their first single and video, "Ya Mama," showed the group in baggy garb engaging in a rhymed game of the dozens. But they could turn surprisingly dark and pensive, as they did with their next two singles, "Passin' Me By" and "Otha Fish." Bizarre Ride may have indeed been the last great album of hip-hop's Golden Era — a time of great diversity of expression — as it was followed one month later by the release of Dr. Dre's solo debut. The commercial colossus of The Chronic easily eclipsed the offbeat alternative.

Alas, The Pharcyde assured their own obscurity, and their mayhem ultimately proved more curse than blessing. They argued with J Sw!ft, jettisoning their musical motor. And despite their discovery of a new beatmaker of transcendent skill — James "Jay Dee" Yancey, the man who would become J Dilla — their second and final album, Labcabincalifornia, was marked by conflict (including a fistfight, according to Dilla, resulting from a heated debate on the relative merits of two digital samplers). Labcabin was followed by the departure of the group's most charismatic personality, Fatlip. Next to quit was the multitalented Tre, leaving Imani and Romye as the two remaining members. Meanwhile, J Sw!ft's promising production career went from eccentric to pathetic. He blew the money from a six-figure deal with Tommy Boy Records on weed and other diversions. Crack addiction took him from a mansion in the Hollywood Hills to a more modest abode: a tree on Ivar Avenue.

Though the group was reunited briefly for a series of concerts in 2008 by impresario Chang Weisberg in his Rock The Bells summer hip-hop festival, personal rifts between the members remained too raw for a real reconciliation, even with the prospect of a prosperous 20th Anniversary tour. Unable to find footing as solo recording artists, Fatlip and Tre found themselves cut off from the use of their legacy brand to promote their performances, as Romye and Imani secured and maintained the right to perform exclusively as The Pharcyde.

"Fatlip and Tre were the Lennon and McCartney of The Pharcyde," says Mike Ross, who signed the group to his Delicious Vinyl label in 1992. Ross makes no secret about his sympathies, calling Romye and Imani's performances "horrible," "second rate" and "insulting to the legacy."

Ross determined to back the disenfranchised members — and capitalize on the opportunity of the milestone year — by funding a new tour with a reconstituted group called The Bizarre Ride: Fatlip and Tre joined by the classic album's two producers, a rehabilitated J Sw!ft and "L.A." Jay Barnes, along with lyrical support from associate K-Natural. Upon the 20th anniversary of the classic album, sentimental fans are now faced with two simultaneous tours from which to choose.

In New York show last week at the Greenwich Village venue SOB's, The Bizarre Ride led a packed nightclub through their entire first album. They barreled happily through the original sequence of skits and songs, 40-something rappers recalling all the energy of their 20-something selves — and looking significantly more clear-eyed than they did in those early days. The opening bars of "Officer" provoked a hilarious Temptations-style dance routine, and the L.A. rappers found an ironic welcome in the neighborhood where, in 1992, they once caught a vicious beat-down at the now-defunct Wetlands. "I always wanted to do this," Fatlip began, feeling free, "Is The Bronx in the house?!" After Bizarre Ride's final song, the group encored with a sequence of Dilla's three best tracks from Labcabincalifornia, J Sw!ft bobbing his head, exiled no more.

"It's important for me and them to preserve the Pharcyde legacy ... to preserve what that era was about," says Ross, referring to the rap ethos of the early '90s — originality, virtuosity, authenticity. "We're doing a much better job than what those guys [Imani and Romye] are doing." The Bizarre Ride tour with Fatlip and Tre has moved on to Europe, where they'll be doing nearly a dozen shows. Ross reveals plans for a Bizarre Ride record and perhaps a musical based on the Bizarre Ride album, which he still owns.

Meanwhile, The Pharcyde featuring Imani and Romye are playing tonight (Wednesday) in Los Angeles and on February 17 in Las Vegas. And they're not taking kindly to the competition. "They've got lawyers already pushing back on us," says Ross.

With the current and former members touring in two hostile camps, The Pharcyde's continuing legacy guarantees an odd future, no matter whose 'cyde you're on.

News : Fabolous Says He Never Took Offense To Lil Wayne’s Anti-New York Remarks

News : Fabolous Says He Never Took Offense To Lil Wayne’s Anti-New York Remarks

NYC rapper Fabolous may have made indirect references to Lil Wayne and his remarks about New York on his record “So NY,” but in an interview with MTV News Fab stated that he never had an issue or bad feelings towards Lil Wayne after the YM rapper uttered his dislike for the city of New York.

Speaking with MTV, Fabolous said that the city hasn’t been the greatest music wise and expressed that he was hoping to lift a the state of mind with the release of “So NY.”

“It’s his opinion,” Fabolous revealed. “So if he doesn’t like New York it’s not a bad thing. I do feel he spoke it out because it was how he felt. New York isn’t at its strongest point musically or something like that. It’s also hard to say that about any place. I don’t care if you do an interview and say ‘Yo, I don’t like Kentucky.’

The people of Kentucky are gonna have a little gripe about that…I took what he was saying and tried to empower some pride back into New York. You know what I mean, ‘I’m so New York, Weezy probably don’t like me.’ That’s what it was more about. Just making a statement and taking what he said and motivating people with it.”

Fabolous even had a chance to get the issie straight with Lil Wayne when the two rappers both showed up at Club LIV in Miami.

“I seen him at Club LIV and when I saw him I was like, ‘I’mma go over there and holler at him.’ Just to check the temperature and make sure everything’s okay because you know people hearing things and I don’t know which way they took [it],” said Fabolous. “And he actually came over to me and came and said ‘what’s up’…That was the end of it there. It was no reason to dwell on it. I even actually took a picture for my Instagram just to show the people that it wasn’t no big deal.”
