Video : Flying Lotus : Never Catch Me f. Kendrick Lamar

This week has already seen Flying Lotus provide the soundtrack to Aitor Throups’s intimate portrait of Noomi Rapace, which was a digression from the usual promotional shtick he’s been up to during the lead up to the release of his album You’re Dead!. One of the most exciting tracks we’ve heard so far is “Never Catch Me,” which features Kendrick Lamar’s rapping. The official music video has just dropped and it’s at once both uplifting and moving. The focus is on two young children who lay in caskets at a funeral and jump up to prove themselves as couple of the dopest young dancers around. There’s not long to wait for FlyLo’s album now, as it drops October 7. In the meantime, listen to “Coronus, The Terminator.”

Videos : Fedde Le Grand : So Much Love

Videos : Fedde Le Grand : So Much Love

Who is Fedde Le Grand?
Fedde le Grand is, without doubt, one of the biggest DJs in the world. His skills both inside and out of the studio are the stuff legends are made of. Whether he’s demolishing legendary State-side festival Coachella on his debut appearance; racking up a straight hat-trick of Beatport #1’s in the overall charts with Autosave, Control Room and his massive remix of EBTG’s Missing, completing the year with So Much Love and the massive remix of Colplay’s Paradise; or touring most of the known world devastating clubland as he goes – le Grand is the name on everyone’s lips. But like any superstar success story, our hero had to start somewhere…

No biography of the Dutch artist could pass without mentioning 2006’s Put Your Hands Up For Detroit. It took one of Holland’s most successful national DJs and propelled him to truly giddy heights of international stardom. The track was number 1 in five countries – Spain, Russia, Finland, Bulgaria and the notoriously hard to crack UK chart – and scooped a raft of gongs including Best Underground House Track, Best Breaks/Electro Track, Best Breakthrough Solo Artist at the IMDA and, Club Banger of The Year at the 6th Annual Club Awards in Miami. His name was everywhere, from radio and print to TV and online media. The world woke up to the blistering and dynamic production work of Fedde le Grand, and he hadn’t even scratched the surface of what was to follow.

Releasing through Flamingo Recordings, Fedde cemented his reputation as a leading force in house with tracks like Let Me Think About It, The Creeps, 3 Minutes To Explain, Let Me Be Real, Back & Forth and Rockin’ High. The music flowed and he dominated the upper echelons of dance charts everywhere. Remix requests came pouring in from the biggest stars on the planet: Will.i.am, Robbie Williams and then Madonna came knocking on Fedde’s door asking for a le Grand-style reworking of her hit Give It 2 Me.

It wasn’t just the commercial house sound where Fedde excelled. As early as April 2006 he began experimenting with his darker, more minimal tech-house sound. Tracks like Take No Shhh, Aah Yeah, the Bad Ass EP, Just Trippin’, F1, Amplifier, Pink Bird and The Joker won him an elite group of fans and confirmed his position as one of the most versatile producers of our time and a true master of both the underground and over ground sounds.

In 2009, the world waited as news that Fedde was taking time out to produce his first studio artist album began to filter through. Output was a breath-taking debut album where Fedde pulled in his loves of house, electro, hip-hop, funk and jazz and fashioned a piece of work that was both incredibly personal and dance floor dynamite. Collaborations with Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas, Rob Birch (Stereo MCs), MC Gee, Mr V, Mitch Crown, Camille Jones, Ida Corr and more provided Fedde with a rich and diverse pool of vocal talent to wrap his ideas around. Successfully released to over 60 countries around the world, it yet again proved Fedde could consistently push himself past his previous successes and was hungry for more.

Just as important, Fedde has proven that he belongs to the best DJ’s with his outstanding mixing skills to match his musical releases. His energetic performances are the stuff turntable legends are made of, his deft and devastating action behind the decks often flooring observers as he moves at lightening pace; twisting this sound, dropping that beat, chopping and changing between tracks until the dance floor is throbbing to his ministrations. Fedde le Grand is titanic in the DJ booth, as the biggest clubs and festivals the world over pay testament to time and time again. His Takeover concept, unveiled in 2010, saw Fedde take complete creative control over his performances, defining the music policy, guest DJs, even lighting and visual décor to fulfil the Dutchman’s vision of the perfect party. From world exclusive residencies at Ministry of Sound London and Pacha Ibiza, to roadblock events in all four corners of the world – LA, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Boston, San Diego, Denver, Tampa, Miami, Texas, Las Vegas, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, South Africa, Switzerland, Ireland, France, Romania, Ukraine, Montenegro, Turkey, Tunisia, Spain, Italy, Germany, Croatia, Greece, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Belgium, Macedonia and more – the planet has fully capitulated to Fedde le Grand’s Takeover.

The constant traveling and hard work more than paid off in October 2011 when he soared seven places up the influential DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Chart from 21 to 14. With fans everywhere clamouring for more and more of le Grand, it would not be an unwise bet that the Flying Dutchman rises even further up the Chart come the 2011 results.

As a creative producer, an inspirational DJ, and an artist in the truest sense of the word, the passion, integrity and sheer weight of individuality and originality that Fedde brings to the table sees him take his place as one of the most influential electronic pioneers of modern times. Only one-question remains – if this is what Fedde le Grand has achieved so far, what more is there to come?

Who Are Animal Collective?

Avey Tare
Avey Tare is Dave Portner of Animal Collective and Kria Brekkan is Kristin Anna Valtysdottir formerly of the band múm. The two met a few years back and started playing music together in the summer of 2005.  Recently they married and now live together in New York City.

Avey Tare and Kria Brekkan recorded their debut collaboration “Pullhair Rubeye” with guitars and piano on an eight track in their practice space in Brooklyn. Then they traveled to upstate New York where the record was mixed down onto a two track borrowed from a friend who bought it at a garage sale for a dollar. Just as the two were completing the mix, the two track broke down and Avey and Kria didn’t hear the mixes until two months later when they obtained another two track.  After this short vacation, they were surprised by the sounds they had made.

Regardless of HOW they made their sounds, Avey Tare and Kria Brekkan’s “Pullhair Rubeye” is a motley collection of fun and somber songs. Some of the tracks are instrumental, textured, and trancelike. They sound like they could come from another world. Other songs are lyrically based, calmer, more introspective. These sound like direct transmissions from within.

Deakin
Josh Dibb began writing and recording music with childhood friend Noah Lennox in 1991. While at The Park School in Baltimore, Josh met David Portner and Brian Weitz when they asked him to join their band, Automine. Josh introduced Noah to Dave and Brian and over the next few years the four spent time playing music together and sharing tapes of music they made individually.

Geologist
Geologist attended the Park School of Baltimore where he met future Animal Collective band mates David Portner and Josh Dibb. Avey Tare, Geologist and Deakin first started an indie-rock band called Automine with two other schoolmates. Deakin introduced his childhood friend Noah Lennox to Avey Tare and Geologist. Throughout their high school years and winter/summer college breaks, the four of them played music in different variations and often solo, swapping homemade recordings and sharing ideas.

Panda Bear
Instinctively nomadic and musically inquisitive, Panda Bear (Noah) has always been searching the land for inspiration and meaning. As a teenager in his hometown of Baltimore , Panda Bear created his first solo record, the long out-of-print, first (and last) album on his and Deakin’s (Joshmin) Soccer Star Records. Panda then made his way to University in Boston . Trouble and crazy things happened so he came down to New York at the turn of the millennium to congregate with his recently-convened Animal brethren (Avey Tare, Geologist, and Deakin). Animal Collective was born again.

When not working on Animal Collective material, Panda Bear creates lots of music by himself and with Scotty Mou (DJ Casio - Queens ) in Jane. He also makes jams with the other animal bros and Rusty Santos for fashion shows as Together. Never sticking with any particular sound, Panda’s range goes from the quiet humble jams of Young Prayer to the electronic pop of Person Pitch. Panda Bear currently resides in Lisbon, Portugal.

Who Is Short Stories?
Separately, you might know UK producers Koreless and Sampha from who they've worked with over the past few years: Koreless previously appeared on Jacques Greene's Concealer EP (and put out his own single on Greene's Vase label), and Sampha's dolorous vocals can be heard all over SBTRKT's excellent breakout self-titled LP from 2011. Now, the two producers have teamed up as Short Stories, and their debut single under the moniker drops on January 28 via Young Turks. The single's A-side, "On the Way", employs skittering melodic rhythms and vocals from Sampha to create something that sounds as slithery as it does forceful.

Who Is Xilent?
Originally from Warsaw (Poland), Eryk produced his first bits at the age of nine, when he was introduced to the Propellerhead Rebirth RB-338 synthesizer set. From then on, he tended to diversify his sound from techno, through breakbeat, finally to find his place in drum and bass, influenced by artists like DJ Rap, Future Cut, Calyx and Concord Dawn. Throughout that time he also found himself playing the drums in a few hardcore punk bands like Fast Forward.

Many of his digital releases have seen the light of day hitting the top drum’n’bass charts on TrackItDown, one of which was rated “one of the biggest tracks of 2009 without a shadow” and even a “drum’n’bass anthem” – (‘Terminal’, Ammunition Rec., rated by TrackItDown).

Xilent spent the next three years in Edinburgh (Scotland), where he studied Software Engineering at University, and where he became a member of international labels such as Beta Recordings managed by John B himself, Ammunition Recordings, Mindtech Recordings and more while DJing throughout Europe, supporting acts like Spor (stage name of Jon Gooch). In December 2009 Xilent played for the first time live in his home country, Poland (Łódź).

In 2011 Xilent was signed by AudioPorn Records; an independent label owned by former Ram Records Producer/DJ Shimon. Since then, Xilent’s has released 2 EPs and 2 singles– “Choose Me EP”, “Skyward EP” and “Evolutions Per Minute/Tenkai” (released on AudioPorn Records’ affiliated Mainframe Recordings) and the drum and bass electro track “Clear Your Mind”.

In May 2012 Xilent released his "Ultrafunk" EP on AudioPorn Records featuring four original tracks Twisted, Ultra, Beyond (named "Hottest Record in the World" by BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe) and Do It.
