News : Kanye West Has A Surprise Album Planned
Unexpected releases may soon become the expected. A few months after Beyoncé started the pattern with her sneak-attack self-titled album in late 2013, Mariah Carey said she might try her own surprise, though Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse ultimately arrived last year the traditional way. Drake‘s stealth set If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late just debuted at the top of the album chart. Kanye West, in a lengthy interview this morning on Power 105.1′s Breakfast Club, said his next album is “about 80 percent done,” is dramatically different from 2013′s Yeezus and, yes, will be timed as a surprise.
“Release dates are played out,” West said. “The surprise will be the surprise.” As for the actual music, he contrasted it with the “protest” of Yeezus, of which he said, “I’m gonna take my ball and go home.” The new album will be “cookout music that just feels good,” he said. “This album is embracing the music, joy. Being of service to the people. I just hope people like it and enjoy it.”
West also addressed his recent comments about Beck‘s big Grammy win, saying he found Morning Phase to be pretty good when Taylor Swift put it on for him once at dinner and that he keeps meaning to give Beck a call. As for West’s limited public mention of last year’s police-involved killings, he said his father told him to “stay out of it.”
