Bars : USA : Las Vegas : Nevada : Atomic Liquors

About Atomic Liquors
Atomic Liquors, 917 Fremont Street, about a 3-minute walk from the El Cortez Hotel downtown is the oldest freestanding bar in Las Vegas. Originally founded by Joe & Stella Sobchik in 1952, Atomic Liquors boasts the 1st package liquor license and off-sales permit. Atomic, named for a time when customers watched atomic blasts from the roof, was originally built in 1945 and was called Virginia's Cafe. As the story goes; Joe was tired of cooking food, and the customers seemed more excited about sampling his secret ingredient 'Atomic Cocktails' while watching the nuclear blasts from the nearby Atomic Test Site. So in 1952, the couple renamed the business Atomic Liquors, constructed a classically huge, wrap around bar, and built a one of kind landmark neon sign that still shines today. In 2012 a group of investors led by longtime Downtown Las Vegas Attorney Lance Johns purchased the Atomic from the Sobchik's son, Ron, and remodeled it to it's original glory. Like much of old time Vegas, Atomic has showbiz in its veins - The Rat Pack and the Smothers Brothers drank here after their nightly shows, and Barbra Streisand even had her own seat which has been restored and is on display. History, atmosphere, free parking, and drink specials. So the next time you're headed to Downtown Las Vegas or Fremont Street, tell your friends... Meet me at Atomic!

Atomic Liquors Review By Robert M.: Boulder, CO
"Friendly bartenders and nice outdoor patio for people watching. Only downside is they permit smoking inside and on the deck, but it's Vegas and you are going to find that in most places.

Looking for something a little different to do downtown? Head to Atomic Bar and have them whip you up a drink, grab a seat on the deck and hang-out."

News : Jay Z Speaks Up For Tidal

News : Jay Z Speaks Up For Tidal

Jay Z has unleashed a 'stream of consciousness' defence of his streaming service TIDAL.

The 45-year-old rapper is co-owner of the new tech company, which hosted a star-studded press conference in March with attendees like Madonna, Deadmau5, Alicia Keys, Daft Punk, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Jay Z's wife Beyonce Knowles.

Although the fanfare was initially huge the TIDAL buzz seemed to fizzle out quickly after this event took place and Jay Z took to Twitter Sunday in defence of his business.

'Stream of consciousness coming in 5, 4, 3, 2. (sic),' he wrote in the first of a series of tweets, which all ended with the hashtag #TidalFacts. 'Tidal is doing just fine. We have over 770,000 subs. We have been in business less than one month.

'The iTunes Store wasn't built in a day. It took Spotify 9 years to be successful.

'We are here for the long haul. Please give us a chance to grow & get better.'

Jay Z then shared his concerns over how his competition has entered this conversation.

The hip hop mogul is convinced other companies are intentionally trying to give TIDAL a bad name.

'There are many big companies that are spending millions on a smear campaign. We are not anti-anyone, we are pro-artist & fan,' he wrote. 'Rich getting richer? Equity values... YouTube $390 billion. Apple $760 billion. Spotify $8 billion. Tidal $60 million.'

TIDAL has come under fire by some critics who assert the service will only line the pockets of affluent artists like the superstars who attended last month's press occasion.

But Jay Z has dismissed this claim as complete nonsense.

'We made Tidal for fans. We have more than just music. We have video, exclusive concerts, tickets for events early, live sports! Tidal is where artists can give their fans more without the middlemen,' he wrote. 'Indie artists who want to work directly w/ us keep 100% of their music. 'If you don't want the CEOs all in the videos' haa #tidalfacts (sic).'

Videos : Yelawolf : Best Friend ft. Eminem

Yelawolf recently released Love Story, the long-awaited follow-up to his 2011 major lebut debut album, Radioactive. The song's lone collaboration -- "Best Story" featuring Eminem -- was arguably the most anticipated track off the LP following the project's details hit the internet. Now, Yelawolf has shared a video for the song. The Spidy-directed clip for "Best Friend" fits in line with the "country-rap" aesthetic of Yelawolf, who wanders around a back-country fields and graveyards for part of the video. For his part, Eminem chooses to spit his rap-sermon in a church, firing his head-spinning fast-raps in a place that's usually a lot more peaceful. Shady has definitely come a very long way from the rowdy, naked bar patron getting throwing out of strip-clubs in the video for "My Name Is." You can check out the video for "Best Friend" above. Yelawolf's first video for Love Story was the recently-released clip for "American You."

Singles : Jeremih : Planes Remix : Lido & The Social Experiment

Singles : Jeremih : Planes Remix : Lido & The Social Experiment

Listen To : Jeremih : Planes Remix

There is quite a lot going on in that title, so let us break this down for you. Earlier this year, Jeremih released a song called, “Planes,” featuring J. Cole. Chance the Rapper and his band, the Social Experiment, plus prodigal Norwegian producer Lido, teamed up to remix the song, switching out J. Cole’s verse for one from Chance. Lido gives the instrumentals a recomposition, alternating his signature sound with that of the original production.

There is a f*ck ton going on, not just in the title, but in this remix. And this is a true remix, even in the hip hop sense. Rappers spitting on the instrumentals of another track? That’s the type of classic hip hop shit we like. Chance is here, there, and everywhere these days, probably one of the causes of his current exhaustive state. The rapper has had to cancel tour dates for the second time in his career, due to exhaustion. We hope he feels better soon. Sending prayer hand emojis for a rapid recovery, so that he can get back to wowing fans with his intoxicating energy, some of which he brings to this remix. Chance’s verse romances this track, taking it from sex in an airplane bathroom to chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, and a bed of roses. His raps are super sweet as usual, and Lido and the band back up his bars with fresh instrumentals that flow like…

This isn’t the first time Lido has teamed up with Chance and his crew. This young producer’s composition skills are so on point, they are out of this world. Directly transported via some top secret NASA warp drive from the distant future, which is quite obviously where Lido resides. His genius stays musically futuristic, with a signature sound coined long before any genre started using the word future in its hashtag. In this industry, it is nearly inconceivable to encounter an individual that is able to read, write, and play music, let alone compose notes and meticulously place them on a sheet and intertwine them into the remix of a track. Lido is just that dude.

There is a whole lot of madness going on here, which is as to be expected of Chance as of late. He hasn’t embarked on a solo project for quite some time, and it doesn’t look like he will be anytime soon. His forthcoming album, Surf, is a collaboration with The Social Experiment, a group that has become so much more than simply his band.

Chance’s projects have become their own experiment, that demolish conventions and break down industrial barriers of genre that are stifling music’s purpose, shattering their bricks to rubble. It sounds crazy, but it is this caliber of madness that breeds the most unrivaled works of art.

This track’s plethora of elements, all it has got going on, combine to give us one sound; nothing short of sexy, concurrent fluidity.

Gear : Shirts : OMsignal Biometric T-Shirts

Gear : Shirts : OMsignal Biometric T-Shirts

Smart wearables are here, and they’re huge. But most of them just hang on your wrist and count your steps.

That’s about to change, as your clothing gets smart — and starts talking.

MontrĂ©al-based OMsignal is launching today with four smart bio-sensing T-shirts that track your heart rate, breathing volume, breathing rate, movement (yes, including steps, but not limited to that), the intensity of your movement, and the number of calories you’ve burned. All tested by the best athletes in the world, according to CEO Stephane Marceau.

“We spent time training with Olympians wearing our shirts,” he told me last week with a grin. “They’re on our fitness advisory board, and they kick our ass at the gym.”

OMsignal has been in private beta since October of last year, when Marceau told me about the company’s vision to help people become not only more fit but also more well. Physical as well as emotional, in other words.

Today for the first time, the fruit of their labor is available for purchase.

Instead of launching with just one shirt, Marceau chose to launch with four: an undershirt, a sleeveless shirt, a casual T-shirt, and a long-sleeved shirt. All can be either worn at the gym, under everyday clothing, or alone. They’re all made at a manufacturer that also makes NFL uniforms and UFC fighters’ gear, and include sensors to measure your movement and your intensity.”

“We use a silver-based thread, integrated into the shirt, that reads your heartbeat,” Marceau says. “It reads the electrical current, brings it to our little black box, then sends it via Bluetooth to your phone."

That little box, about the size of a credit card, reads all the data and includes a little Bluetooth radio. It slips in and out of each shirt, so you can change your shirt but continue monitoring and recording. It also includes a magnetometer, gyrometer, and accelerometer that records your movements and steps. You read all the data, and get alerts and suggestions, via the companion smartphone app.

The company is currently focused on fitness fanatics.

“The interest we’ve gotten has been from quantified selfers, people with medical situations, and people who want to connect with themselves,” Marceau told me. “But the market that is most ready and hungry for this is the performance market … the weekend warriors. They don’t need to be super-athletes, but they care about fitness.”

Purchase here.

Cars : Donkervoort D8 GTO

Cars : Donkervoort D8 GTO

Here's a sweet ride for you...or Batman. AutoBlog pretty accurately sums up Dutch car maker Donkervoort's Bare Naked Carbon Edition of their fit-for-a-Dark-Knight D8 GTO in a single word: bonkers. Legal on the road and a demon the track, this low-riding beast gets its inspiration from the Lotus Seven, its 5-cylinder, 2.5-liter TFSI engine from Audi, and its wicked lines and curves from a body made predominantly of carbon fiber.

As a machine, the Donkervoort D8 GTO has a power-to-weight ratio of less than two, making it one of the fastest street-legal cars in the world. Zero to 60 in 3.3 seconds, 0 to 125 in 10.4 seconds. Its power rating is 340 to 380 hp, with 450 Nm of torque starting at around 1600 rpm. With the Bare Naked Carbon Edition, Donkervoort has also kept visible the material that keeps its car light (just over 1,500 pounds). The carbon fiber bodywork has been installed by hand, with care to ensure precise alignment of the weave since it's all visible under a lacquered or matte finish. Huh. And all this time I thought the raddest things the Dutch made were wooden shoes and space cakes.
