The metamorphosis of once-gritty Edgewood into a nightlife hotspot and, generally, a damn good place to hang out has been a rather amazing thing to witness. And, arguably, the epicenter of that transformation is right here, in a nondescript corner building that hides some of the best dishes, drinks, and DJs in the city. While Sound Table is renowned (and revered) for late-night dance parties to the sounds of internationally celebrated DJs, but the creative minds behind Sound Table have also made their hip lounge a dining destination to which few other ATL eateries can compare.

Two years young on the dining scene, Sound Table's first-rate kitchen has already scooped up accolades from smitten critics, food connoisseurs, and people like me: hungry Atlantans constantly on the prowl for inventive, creative dishes bold enough to challenge the best of the city. That's thanks to Executive Chef Shane Devereux and Chef de Cuisine Joey Zelinka, who together have artfully orchestrated a menu of fresh, light dishes—all of which pair perfectly with a cocktail from their acclaimed bar. The house favorites, of course, aren't going anywhere: the duck breast l'orange, the Painted Hills skirt steak, the Cauliflower and Brussels... all of the staples that made ST's kitchen just as celebrated as their bar and their DJs. Think smoked gazpacho with cilantro crema, or seared scallops with arugula coulis and scallop escabeche. And then, as if there wasn't already enough to indulge in, there's the latest venture: boozy desserts in partnership with Morelli's. Indeed, after noshing on pork belly and crab-stuffed portobellos, after swilling a Moscow Mule or a Blackfoot Confederacy, you can gratify your sweet tooth with a bourbon-ginger ice cream with an Angostura caramel swirl (also known as the Horse's Neck). Five years ago, or even three, few would've expected a spot in the Old Fourth Ward to offer that sort of dessert, or grilled sweetbreads, or award-winning cocktails. We have the gents behind this joint to thank for that.

The Sound Table Review : By Isoul H. Harris : Atlanta, GA
It’s Saturday night. 10:30 p.m. The corner of Boulevard and Edgewood is booming with supersonic beats and rhythms coming from a very nondescript building a few feet away. Wait. Is that classic ’70s and ’80s house music? Dub-step? Oh, snap. That’s Dam Funk, seeping through the door. Correct answer: All of the above. The plain facade would be Sound Table, a restaurant/bar/lounge specializing in phenom DJs and luscious “street-to-table” tapas.

Formerly known as Over Da Edge, the owners of the popular midtown eatery Top Flr decided to overtake the Old Fourth Ward transforming the bi-level space into a South-defying music and culinary mashup. Upstairs is a relaxed dining room loft, while the main floor’s comprised of a very capable bar, dining area and raised landing near the front doors. The kitchen is helmed by notable chef Shane Devereux, and to term his wonderful carte du jour as “street food” seems a bit underwhelming.

Kick-off dinner with a craft beer or a specialty cocktail — the Moscow Mule (vodka, lime, orange bitters, ginger beer) and the White Tigers Milk (Applejack, apricot liqueur, sugar, orange bitters, egg white) are must-sips.

Seriously.

Food musts include Belgian Style Frites (with yummy homemade mayo), Garbanzo Hummus (smooth and spicy, it’s a contradictory starter), and the Go Gai Salad (it’s a flavor fest; the mixture of young chicken, Napa Cabbage, Georgia Pecans and mint make each bite a unique experience). All are excellent starters, deemed “compartments,” which enable easy sharing among the table. Don’t forget to try the Szechuan Fish Fry (with ginger soy and zesty glazed kumquats) or the Spatchcock Grilled Chicken (seasoned with Sicilian Oregano).

Back to the music.

The sound system created by Danley Sound Labs is state-of-the-art, meaning the entire neighborhood experiences it. Expect DJs — local, national and international — to constantly revolve keeping the beats fresh. Open from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., each night, Sound Table is a great getaway that mixes things up.
