Videos : M.I.A. : Bring The Noize (Matangi Gold Edition) (Explicit)

M.I.A. recently fit her "Bring the Noize" single with a city-and-club-scouring video and has now offered up an arguably more valuable version of the clip by embossing it with an all-gold filter.

While the gold-stamp treatment was given to a few parts in the original clip, the reworked video utilizes audio-visual alchemy by layering the glitzy effect on each and every shot.

You can check out M.I.A. rapping the Mantagi track in a whole new light down above.

Listen To Beyonce : Standing On The Sun

As speculation continues to swell about her new album's release, Beyoncé's long-teased Standing On the Sun has finally leaked.

The Caribbean-infused jam evokes a more sensual side of Bey, as she sings in the chorus, "Can you feel the heat on my skin/ Can you feel all my loving / You and me, we're standing on the sun."

Standing On the Sun is featured in the diva's recent H&M campaign, and was performed live for the first time at her Belgium concert in May.

Coincidentally, her new power ballad Grown Woman also leaked last month. So did someone get their hands on another of Bey's tracks, or is she merely testing the waters to see how fans respond?

Who Is Cass McCombs?
Cass McCombs is an American songwriter and performer.

McCombs was born in Concord, California in 1977. He has led a nomadic existence for most of his adult life, moving from one city to the next, living in cars, on couches and at campsites. McCombs spent time developing his songwriting abilities in New York City, until the events of 9/11 (coupled with running out of money) sent him back, via Greyhound bus, to San Francisco, where he recorded his debut E.P., entitled Not the Way E.P. It would be released by the small Baltimore-based Monitor Records in 2002. After relocating there, his first full-length album, A, was released early the following year on Monitor in the U.S. and in Europe and the U.K. by 4AD. McCombs and his band spent much of 2003 and 2004 touring, performing everywhere from the All Tomorrow's Parties festival to house shows. McCombs otherwise divided his time amongst the Pacific Northwest, England and Baltimore. After a week of recording in Michigan, his second LP, PREfection, arrived in spring 2005. Later that year, he decamped to Southern Ca lifornia to begin work on his third full-length, Dropping the Writ, which was released on October 9, 2007, by Domino Records and later named one of Amazon.com’s Best Albums of 2007. Following a period in Chicago, he returned to California to record Catacombs before its eventual U.S. release on July 7, 2009. The album was named one of the top 50 albums of 2009 by Pitchfork Media. His fifth LP, Wit's End, was released by Domino on April 26, 2011. It was followed by another LP, entitled Humor Risk and released on November 8, 2011 - less than 7 months after the release of his previous LP. Like Catacombs and Wit's End, it was produced by Ariel Rechtshaid and McCombs.

He has performed or toured with Honeyboy Edwards, Mike Bones, Band of Horses, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, White Magic, Cat Power, The Anomoanon, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Andrew Bird, Blonde Redhead, Modest Mouse, Girls, Sleepy Doug Shaw, Beach House, The Decemberists, Arcade Fire, Peter Bjorn and John, Papercuts, Fiery Furnaces, José González, The Shins, Iron and Wine, Arboretum, Deerhoof, The Walkmen, John Webster Johns, Lightspeed Champion, The Donkeys, OXES, Gang Gang Dance, Convalescent Surprise, Frank Fairfield, Michael Hurley, Jana Hunter, Lower Dens, Thurston Moore, and Mt. Egypt.

His songs have been featured in films such as Thomas Campbell's 2009 surf film The Present and Ralph Arlyck documentary Following Sean, as well as notable skate videos featuring Jason Dill, Jerry Hsu Chima Ferguson and Dylan Rieder. His song "Bobby, King of Boys Town" appeared in HBO show "Girls" (Season 2, Episode 9 - "On All Fours").

McCombs has stated that his tombstone will read "Home At Last."

Listen To Museum Of Bellas Artes : Abyss

Swedish pop group Museum Of Bellas Artes are releasing an overdue debut album named ‘Pieces’ later this year and have shared a moonlit new single, Abyss, as premiered on Gorilla vs. Bear. Abyss is all melodramatic synth pop, coming across like Tears For Fears jamming with Johan Agebjörn and CFCF – which would obviously never happen, but it’s fun to imagine.

The single is due out next week, with the album following in September. If you fancy a blast from the past, then check out Museum Of Bellas Artes’ Dummy Mix, recorded back at the end of 2010.

Videos : Clinton Sparks ft. 2 Chainz, Macklemore & D.A. : Gold Rush (Explicit)

Videos : Clinton Sparks ft. 2 Chainz, Macklemore & D.A. : Gold Rush (Explicit)

Clinton Sparks joins forces with 2 Chainz and Macklemore on his new single "Gold Rush," an ode to a gold-digging party girl. In this exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the track's forthcoming video – which was shot in Las Vegas and boasts a classic Cherry Red 1966 Cadillac Eldorado convertible – fans get a glimpse at how the on-screen collaboration took shape.

Sparks says he was unfamiliar with Macklemore before "Thrift Shop" blew up, and credits a friend for enlightening him. "I loved his music, the concepts, lyrics and I could tell we shared the same sense of humor by the comedy he injected into his videos," Sparks tells Rolling Stone. "Needless to say, I wanted to work with him." After an exchange of tweets, Mack threw down his verse, which is the Seattle MC's first outside collaboration.

The producer was also encouraged by 2 Chainz's open-mindedness following his studio pairing with Fall Out Boy, and pursued him for "Gold Rush." "I knew that he was into messing with non-traditional hip-hop music. I hit him up and conveyed the vibe of the record and what my goal was with it."

"I sent the record, got on the phone with Chainz and explained the concept of what a gold-rush girl is and he sent it back in three days," Sparks continues. Appropriately, it was a line in one of his freestyles when he was a part of Ludacris' DTP label that helped inspire the record in the first place: "She don't wanna fuck me, she wanna fuck my chain."

Videos : Avicii : Wake Me Up (Lyric Video)

A little bit country, a little bit EDM: it’s a combination that Avicii is championing on his new single “Wake Me Up,” haters be damned.

After his rocky set at March’s Ultra Music Festival and redemptive show during last weekend’s Electric Daisy Carnival, Avicii is pushing forward with the mixed-genre vision for his debut album True. Set for a September 17 release, the album and its sound aims for “disruption,” according to the Swede.

The Aloe Blacc-voiced first single, “Wake Me Up,” is out now, and offers a bold taste of what to expect come fall. The new lyric video for the track further illuminates Avicii’s vision, mixing pastoral imagery — to match the track’s bluegrass influence — with live footage from Avicii’s Ultra gigs in Miami and South Korea. Check out the video, as well as the full “Wake Me Up” lyrics above.

Who Is Nine Inch Nails?
Nine Inch Nails (abbreviated as NIN, sometimes stylized as NIИ) is an American industrial rock project, founded in 1988 by Trent Reznor in Cleveland, Ohio. As its main producer, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, Reznor is the only official member of Nine Inch Nails and remains solely responsible for its direction. Nine Inch Nails' music straddles a wide range of genres. After recording a new album, Reznor usually assembles a live band to perform with him. The touring band features a revolving lineup that often rearranges songs to fit a live setting. On stage, Nine Inch Nails often employs visual elements to accompany performances, which frequently include light shows.

Underground music audiences warmly received Nine Inch Nails in its early years. Reznor produced several highly influential records in the 1990s that achieved widespread popularity: many Nine Inch Nails songs became radio hits; two Nine Inch Nails recordings have won Grammy Awards; and their entire catalog has reached record sales exceeding over 30 million albums worldwide, with 11 million sales certified in the United States alone. In 1997, Reznor appeared in Time magazine's list of the year's most influential people, and Spin magazine described him as "the most vital artist in music." In 2004, Rolling Stone placed Nine Inch Nails at 94 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. Despite this acclaim, the band has had several feuds with the corporate side of the recording industry. In 2007, these corporate entanglements resulted in Reznor announcing that Nine Inch Nails would split from its label and release future material independently.

Since 1989, Nine Inch Nails has made eight major studio releases. The most recent releases, Ghosts I–IV and The Slip, both released in 2008, were released under Creative Commons licenses (BY-NC-SA). Both were initially released digitally, with physical releases coming later. The digital release of The Slip was made available completely free of charge, and Ghosts, while also available for sale, can be acquired legally through means such as file-sharing due to its Creative Commons license. Nine Inch Nails has been nominated for twelve Grammy Awards and won twice for the songs "Wish" and "Happiness in Slavery", in 1992 and 1996 respectively. (Read More)

Listen To M-Dot ft. Planetary & Aims : Sold My Soul To Rock N Roll

Who Is M-Dot?
Michael Januario (born in 1984) better known by his stage name M-Dot is an Italian-American rapper. Before becoming a rap musician, Januario played college basketball at BHCC, MCLA and Fitchburg State.

Born in Revere, Massachusetts, M-Dot initially gained expanded exposure when touring Switzerland as the opener for Lawrence rapper Krumb Snatcha (Gangstarr Foundation) in the mid 2000s. Frequent collaborations with populous respected rap groups, and consistently touring overseas, have built M-Dot's following. M-Dot is well known for his continuous work ethic and level of productivity.

In 2008 M-Dot was named to Stuff Magazines Hot 100. M-Dot performed at the 2010 Winter XGames in Tignes, France. For years M-Dot has solidified a fan base through local shows and mixtapes in Boston and throughout the US. M-Dot won both major Boston hip-hop music awards in 2010: at the 22nd annual Boston Phoenix awards, Best Hip Hop Act, and at the 23rd annual Boston Music Awards, Hip Hop Artist of the Year. He then went on to win Hip Hop Dependency "Artist of the Year 2011"

M-Dot reached number 2 on RapAttackLives.com college radio charts and finished fifth in vinyl sales in 2010 at undergroundhiphop.com.

In 2008 M-Dot was given the honor of "2 Dope 2 Sleep On" by 2dopeboyz.com. He went on to receive positive reviews for his mixtapes Money Doesn't Own Thought (2009) from DigBoston.com and Making Doubters Over Think (2010) from the Boston Globe. His third installment in his acronym series, More Doubters Over Thinking, was also well received. In May 2012 in support of the release "Layer Cake," M-Dot embarked on a 33 day European tour with the likes of Slaughterhouse (group), Saigon (rapper) & El Da Sensei. The Layer Cake cd was also considered another example of acute lyricism. Layercake finds M-Dot weaving a go-for-the-gold battle-rap narrative over beats from young producers

He garnered more accolades for his first EP, a collaborative effort with DJ Jean Maron, Run MPC.

The 2007 Cinematic feature "Street Team Massacre " used songs M-Dot created for the score. M-Dot can also be seen acting in the comical sitcom "What it is", which stars and is also produced by Makzilla & Krizz Kaliko (of Tech N9ne's Strange Music). On October 11, 2012, M-Dot was featured on ABC's (New England WCVB) primetime TV show "Chronicle"

Videos : Kaptn : Ricky Ricardo

Meet Kaptn, the self-proclaimed "White Tyrese," who recently inked a record deal with Island Def Jam Records. Though the single doesn't hit iTunes until July 2nd, we've got an exclusive preview of the video for "Ricky Ricardo," above.

Here's what we know about Kaptn so far: MTV describes him as "a little Macklemore, a little Far East Movement," which seems quite accurate. He doesn't appear to take himself too seriously—which is pretty much mandatory for a person who calls himself the White Tyrese, so that's good. Maxim's Hot 100 winner Miley Cyrus is apparently a big fan. And based on his new video for "Ricky Ricardo," he's into dancing with scantily clad models, so we have at least one thing in common.

Check out the video above - in approximately one week, every DJ in America is going to be bumping this track on repeat, so you better get used to it.

The incredibly impressive, Scotty Rebel, is back today with a new video for her new track “Bang”. The track finds the Bronx native linking up with fellow Bronx native, French Montana, for something rather infectious and incredibly dope.

The video is a dark shot, street banger that finds the two doing their thing, while surrounded by their homies and home girls. Dope clip, check it out after the jump and speak on it above

News : Ex-queens Of The Stone Age Bassist Nick Oliveri Involved In Serious Auto Accident

News : Ex-queens Of The Stone Age Bassist Nick Oliveri Involved In Serious Auto Accident

Nick Oliveri, former Queens of the Stone Age / Kyuss musician and current frontman of Mondo Generator, was involved in a serious auto accident late Monday night (June 24). Mondo Generator released the news via their Facebook page late last night (June 26), offering their “well-wishes and hang in there’s.”

Oliveri has been facing some tough times lately, being involved in a standoff with police after a March 2012 altercation with his girlfriend. The standoff ended peacefully, but police found cocaine, methamphetamine and a fully-loaded rifle at the musician’s duplex. Oliveri pleaded “not guilty” to two counts of possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and one misdemeanor count of resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer.

In August, a plea deal was reached where Oliveri pleaded “guilty” to one count of possession of cocaine while all other charges were dismissed, leaving Oliveri with three years felony probation, one year of anger management and 200 hours of community service.

We’re hoping that substance abuse had nothing to do with Oliveri’s car crash, but the issue wasn’t addressed in Mondo Generator’s post about the crash:

"We’re sending many many well-wishes and hang in there’s to Nick! He was involved in an auto accident late Monday night. He was shaken up, and you can probably see why if you look at the car, but it’s nothing he won’t recover from. Get well soon brother!"

When they're not falling for monsters and stuff Stooshe have an album campaign to be getting on with, thank you very much. The last we saw of the girls they were in their cool little customised bowling/varsity jacket thingies in the video for 'Slip'...and now they're back with brand spanking new summery single 'My Man Music'. Awoo.

The reggae-inspired tune inventing their own ruddy dance routine to rival this whole twerking phonomenon that's got everyone from Miley Cyrus to One Direction HOOKED. Apparently we've gotta 'Step left, step right, pull your knees tight. Do the butterfly to the side, to the side,' which we actually just attempted before falling into the photocopier in front of the fit receptionist.

Videos : Bloc Party : Ratchet

Videos : Bloc Party : Ratchet

Who Is Bloc Party?
Bloc Party are a British indie rock band, composed of Kele Okereke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Russell Lissack (lead guitar), Gordon Moakes (bass guitar, synths, backing vocals, glockenspiel), and Matt Tong (drums, backing vocals). Their brand of music is said to have been drawn from such bands as The Cure, Mogwai, Siouxsie and the Banshees and in their more recent work Radiohead.

The band was formed at the 1999 Reading Festival by Okereke and Lissack. They went through a variety of names before settling on Bloc Party in 2003. Moakes joined the band after answering an advert in NME magazine, while Tong was picked via an audition. Bloc Party got their break by giving BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and Franz Ferdinand's lead singer, Alex Kapranos, a copy of their demo "She's Hearing Voices".

In February 2005, the band released their debut album Silent Alarm. It was critically acclaimed and was named Indie Album of the Year at the 2006 PLUG Awards and NME Album of the year which both honour indie music. That year, the record was also certified platinum in Britain. The band built on this success in 2007 with the release of their second studio album, A Weekend in the City, which reached a peak of number two in the UK Albums Chart and number twelve in the Billboard 200. In August 2008, Bloc Party released their third studio record, Intimacy which entered the UK Albums Chart at number eight and number eighteen on the Billboard 200. The band went on a hiatus in October 2009 to focus on side projects. They reunited in September 2011, and shortly thereafter released their fourth album, Four, which entered the UK Albums Chart at number three. As of May 2012, Bloc Party have sold two million albums worldwide.

Russell Lissack and Kele Okereke first met in 1998 in London. Lissack had attended Bancroft's School, while Okereke attended Ilford County High School, then Trinity Catholic High School, Woodford Green for sixth form. They bumped into each other again in 1999 at Reading Festival and decided to form a band. Bassist Gordon Moakes joined after answering an advert in NME, and drummer Matt Tong joined after an audition. After going through a variety of names, such as Union, The Angel Range, and Diet, the band settled on Bloc Party in September 2003, a play on block party. The band has said that the name was not intended to be an allusion to the Soviet Bloc or the Canadian political party Bloc Québécois. However, Moakes said on the group's official Internet forum that it was more a merging of the eastern "Blocs" and the western "parties", in the political sense. He also notes that the name was not explicitly driven by politics, but rather it "looked, sounded, seemed fine so we went with it."

In November 2003, Bloc Party had their track "The Marshals Are Dead" featured on a compilation CD called The New Cross released by Angular Recording Corporation. They then released their debut single "She's Hearing Voices" on the then fledgling record label Trash Aesthetics. The band got their break after Okereke went to a Franz Ferdinand concert in 2003, and gave a copy of "She's Hearing Voices" to both lead singer Alex Kapranos and BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq. Lamacq subsequently played the song on his radio show, labelling the track "genius", and invited them to record a live session for the show. The buzz generated off the back of the single led to another release, "Banquet/Staying Fat", this time through Moshi Moshi Records, and to the eventual signing with independent label Wichita Recordings in April 2004.

Bloc Party's debut album, Silent Alarm, was released in February 2005 and was met with universal critical acclaim. It was voted 'Album of the Year' for 2005 by NME, and reached number 3 on the UK Albums Chart before being certified platinum. The first single from the album, "So Here We Are/Positive Tension", made the top 5 on the UK Top 40 chart. Further singles "Banquet" (which reached number 13 in NME's 'Top 50 Singles of 2005'), "Helicopter", and "Pioneers", whilst failing to repeat this success, still managed to reach the UK top 20. The animated video for "Pioneers", made by the Shoreditch-based Minivegas design agency, was top of the NME video charts for 4 weeks. NME tagged them as "art-rock" at that time but the band felt it was too limited.

The band received positive reviews from critics in the United States and they toured there heavily in the 18 months that followed the release of Silent Alarm. In early 2006, they finished their tour with sold out shows in Los Angeles, Miami and Berkeley. The album went on to sell more than 350,000 copies in North America and over a million worldwide. After this success, the established electronic group, The Chemical Brothers, soon collaborated with Okereke for "Believe", a track on their Push the Button album. An album of remixes of tracks from Silent Alarm had also been released at the end of August 2005 in the UK. This remix album, entitled Silent Alarm Remixed, retained the album's original track list and includes remixes from the likes of Ladytron, M83, Death from Above 1979, Four Tet, and Mogwai.

During July 2005, Bloc Party recorded two new tracks with Silent Alarm producer Paul Epworth. The songs were released as single with a B-side, titled "Two More Years", to coincide with the band's October 2005 UK tour. The tour was also accompanied by a re-issue of Silent Alarm, which included "Two More Years" and former single "Little Thoughts" as bonus tracks. A remix of "Banquet" by The Streets, as well as a music video for the song, were included in the "Two More Years" single. Bloc Party also contributed the track "The Present" to the Help!: A Day in the Life compilation, the profits of which benefited the War Child charity.

Bloc Party's second album, A Weekend in the City, was produced by Garret "Jacknife" Lee. It was released in February 2007, although it was leaked in November 2006. It became available for download on the UK iTunes Store before the physical release, and reached the number 2 spot on the UK Albums Chart. The album also reached number 2 on the Australian and Belgian charts, and debuted at number 12 in the Billboard 200, with 48,000 copies sold. The first single, "The Prayer", was released on 29 January, and became the band's highest charting single in the British Top 40, reaching number 4. In the build up to the release of the album, BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe aired a live set by the band from Maida Vale studios on 30 January 2007, featuring a mix of old and new songs. On 1 February 2007, A Weekend in the City was made available to listen to for free through the Bloc Party's official MySpace page.

The next single, "I Still Remember", was Bloc Party's highest charting American single, peaking at number 24 on the Modern Rock Chart. The band released their third single, "Hunting for Witches", with an accompanying video clip in August 2007. The single became their only ARIA Chart entry, peaking at number 20. In October 2007, it was announced that Bloc Party would release a new single, "Flux", on 13 November—ahead of their end of year gigs. The electronic song, also produced by Jacknife Lee, was very different from previous singles released by the band.

The band's first gig following the release of A Weekend in the City was on 5 February 2007, in Reading, and was broadcast live on BBC 6 Music. On 20 May 2007, Bloc Party headlined on the In New Music We Trust stage at the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend in Preston. They also performed at the UK leg of Live Earth on 7 July 2007 at Wembley Stadium. Furthermore, the band played sets at T in the Park and Oxegen 07 that same weekend, as well as Glastonbury and the Reading and Leeds Festivals later in 2007. Bloc Party announced a tour of Australia and New Zealand in August 2007, which would include a special appearance at the Splendour in the Grass Festival on 5 August. On 17 September 2007, they recorded a set for the PBS show Austin City Limits. a day after playing at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. On 27 October, the band performed a set at London's The Roundhouse with the Exmoor Singers, a London based choir, as part of the BBC Electric Proms. The set included songs from both Silent Alarm and A Weekend in the City along with the first British live performance of "Flux"

"Mercury" was released as the first single from Bloc Party's third album in August 2008. Again produced by Jacknife Lee and Paul Epworth, Intimacy was rush-released later that month, with the album available to download 3 days after an announcement in August 2008. Later in the month the band played second on the bill at the Reading and Leeds Festivals before headlining the Hydro Connect Music Festival in Argyll, Scotland.

During the autumn of 2008, the band went on a short tour of North America, which included an appearance at the Virgin Festival in Toronto, as well as the band's first ever American college show at Syracuse University. They made their live return to the UK on 30 September 2008 with a special gig in London as part of Q Awards: The Gigs. They also played the Glasgow date of MTV2's and Topman's "Gonzo on Tour" on 19 October 2008. A follow-up single, "Talons" was released in October 2008. The song was not part of the pre-order album, but did featured on the full album CD release and was made freely available to people who had already purchased the download-only album. An album of remixes of all tracks on Intimacy, Intimacy Remixed, was released in May 2009. The band undertook their first UK tour since December 2007 in October 2009, dubbing it "Bloctober".

In July 2009, Okereke stated that the band did not have a current recording contract and had no obligation or pressure to release a new album in the foreseeable future; he went on to suggest that the release of a fourth album was on an indefinite timescale. A new single, "One More Chance", was released in August 2009. The song did not appear on Intimacy and was produced by Jacknife Lee. After this the group went on a hiatus, with the members unsure as to whether they would carry on.

During this period of hiatus Lissack revived his project Pin Me Down and joined the live line-up of Irish rock-band Ash as guitarist and synthesiser player on their touring for the A–Z Series. Moakes formed the group Young Legionnaire with Paul Mullen, vocalist & guitarist of The Automatic, and William Bowerman, drummer for La Roux, releasing a single, "Colossus" in August 2010. Okereke released a solo album, The Boxer, in June 2010. Produced by Hudson Mohawke and XXXChange, its release was preceded by the single "Tenderoni". Rumours throughout 2011 suggested Okereke had left the group to focus on solo work, though these were denied by other band members.

Bloc Party started writing material for a fourth album in 2011, but decided not to play live. In the meantime Okereke finished an EP titled The Hunter. The group stated they intend to release a new album in 2012. In May 2012, Bloc Party announced Four, which was released on 20 August 2012 Before the albums release, it was made available to stream in its entirety over a week preceding its release. The album was recorded with Alex Newport, who had previously worked with At The Drive In and The Mars Volta, at Stratosphere Studios in New York City during the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012. Bloc Party released "Octopus" that July and later released another single entitled "Day Four". The band released "Kettling" on 12 November 2012, followed by "Truth" on 25 February 2013. Four peaked at numer three on the UK Albums Chart and at number 36 on the Billboard 200.

The band debuted new material during their 2013 North American tour, including "Children of the Future" at Rams Head Live!, "Ratchet" at The Pageant, "Montreal" at the Ogden Theatre and "X-cutioner" at Mr.Smalls Theater in Pittsburgh. Lissack later confirmed the band's plans to release a new EP "around northern hemisphere summer". He told Marc Zanotti of Australian website MusicFeeds that the new material was "not like a continuation of the record we've just made, it's a completely separate thing the next step; the next progression". "French Exit" was given its debut live performance at Crystal Ballroom on May 24. Some of the new material is to feature on The Nextwave Sessions, an EP announced on 25 June. It is scheduled for release on 12 August via Frechkiss Records.

Lissack told Canadian newspaper chain The National Post that the band are planning to take an indefinite hiatus following their appearance at the Latitude festival on 19 July.

Bloc Party's brand of guitar rock draws on influences such as The Cure, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Blur, and The Smiths. Okereke has also stated that Mogwai's album Mogwai Young Team changed his life by being his musical "year zero". Okereke also cites Suede as a major influence, he says Dog Man Star was the first record he fell in love with. Particular parallels were made between Bloc Party and Gang of Four upon their arrival on the music scene, yet the band were "mildly infuriated" at such references, claiming they had never "particularly liked" Gang of Four. To achieve their unique style, numerous delay and other effects pedals are implemented. During the recording of second album A Weekend in the City, the band suggested it would contain "some truly R'n'B styled beats, a song where Tong and Moakes play drums simultaneously with both eggshell-thin fragility and trouser-flapping hugeness", as opposed to their typical sound. The style has been compared to and inspired by such bands as Radiohead, U2, Depeche Mode, and Björk. Some of the most noticeable changes between debut Silent Alarm and A Weekend in the City are that the songs became more layered and less raw due to inclusion of string arrangements.

With the release of "Flux", Bloc Party's style became even more diverse with the inclusion of electronic music. "Mercury" saw Bloc Party distance themselves even further from the traditional guitar band set-up by experimenting with dark electronic sounds and a brass section inspired by Siouxsie and the Banshees. The band's third album Intimacy also features synths, processed drum beats and loops, vocal manipulation, and choral arrangements. Even though the album is influenced by electronic music, the band still has not lost their feel for guitar music. For example, in a recent interview, Okereke said that the band is starting to miss their more traditional sound, and confirmed that may be the way fourth album is headed. However, Tong contradicted this, stating: "There's every chance we might go back to more orthodox arrangements or things that resemble a traditional band but I don't think we'll ever write songs like we did on Silent Alarm again." A 2009 Vice Records mix lists the following songs Bloc Party are influenced by: Eagle Boston's "Wild Wild Ost", Pylon's "Working Is No Problem", Delta 5's "Mind Your Own Business", John Foxx's "Underpass", Prince's "I Would Die 4 U" (also covered live), Sonic Youth's "Youth Against Fascism", Dinosaur Jr.'s "Freak Scene", La Roux's "Quicksand (Nightrunners Edit)", and Bruce Springsteen's "57 Channels (And Nothin' On)"

Bloc Party have had several nominations from a number of different awarding bodies during their recording career. The band themselves were nominated for 'Best New Artist' at the 2005 NME Awards, and were also up for the 'Best Alternative Act' category at the 2005 MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2006, Bloc Party were nominated for another NME Award, this time in the 'Best British Band' category. They were also shortlisted for three PLUG Awards: 'New Artist of the Year' in 2005, and 'Artist of the Year' and 'Live Act of the Year' in 2006. At the 19th GLAAD Media Awards in 2008, they were nominated in the 'Music Artist' category for their work on second album A Weekend in the City.

Their debut album Silent Alarm was nominated for the 2005 Mercury Music Prize and won the NME award for 'Best Album'. It was also nominated as 'Album of the Year' at three different ceremonies: the New Pantheon Music Award (Shortlist Music Prize), the 2006 NME Awards, and the 2006 PLUG Awards, where "Helicopter" was also up for 'Best Music Video'. The record won the award for 'Best Indie Rock Album' at the 2006 PLUG Awards. At the 2008 NME Awards, "Flux" was nominated in three different categories: 'Best Track', 'Best Video' and 'Best Dancefloor Filler'.

Listen To Wale : The Gifted

Early first week sale projections are in for Wale's album "The Gifted".

With Wale's new album, The Gifted, hitting store shelves yesterday, its no surprise that the early first week projections are already being made.

According to HDD, Wale's The Gifted is expected to move about 140-160k units in its first week. If these numbers hold true, which they usually do, The Gifted will debut at number 1 on Billboard this week. Now remember if this would've dropped last week, Wale would be behind both Kanye and J. Cole. The Gifted's album sales look to be identical to Wale's last album, Ambition, which debuted at number 2 on Billboard with 164k units sold back in 2011.

The Gifted Review
Originally, June 25th was scheduled to be the major release date in June. With Wale, J. Cole, Mac Miller and Fabolous all scheduled to drop products in retail on that day, Hip Hop fans felt they had a lot to look forward to. However, when a popular Chicago rapper/producer decided to drop his project on June 18, lots of things changed. Fab pushed his album back, and J. Cole pushed his album forward, meaning the huge multi-release date in June would arrive one week earlier. Wale stuck to his date, insisting his fans knew the date, and would show up to their favorite physical or online retailer for The Gifted. Those who were patient enough to wait for the release will be rewarded, as The Gifted—while not perfect—is a solid overall project.

“New Black Soul” has been Wale’s mantra in the lead up to the release of The Gifted, and overall, the project definitely has a soulful sound. Wale says that each of the tracks off The Gifted are inspired by his own inspirations, and the leadoff single, “LoveHate Thing” featuring Roc Nation crooner Sam Dew, features a Marvin Gaye sample to fit the “New Black Soul” vibe of the album. While the album definitely leans towards a Soul sound, long-time Wale fans will be happy to hear the DC emcee’s Go-Go influence also presents itself. “Clappers” featuring Juicy J, and what seems to be an extremely short and underwhelming Nicki Minaj feature, samples EU’s “Da Butt.” The track has a high energy club vibe to it, and serves as a decent intermission to the seriousness found on the majority of the album.

Those looking for substance in Hip Hop need look no further than tracks like “Gullible” or “Golden Salvation (Jesus Piece).” While the subject of Jesus pieces has definitely been covered excessively in Hip Hop as of late, Wale’s lyrics separate his effort from the other recently released, similar tracks. Wale raps, “Don’t bow your head for grace, though I’m keeping you graceful / Brothers was born to cheat, though I question who faithful / Fast for me, nope, Blasphemy though / Rap to it, so racks up, to match up with me froze / How can a diamond supersede my wisdom? / I seen a reverend with five of me as he read his scripture…” He comes back in the second verse with “Sierra Leone Diamonds, LA to New York got ‘em / If nobody’s stores got me, some probably wouldn’t know about me / All over paparazzi, shout out to Murakami / See they commercialize me, I’m sure there’ll be more robberies…”

The highlight of The Gifted would have to either be the tracks Wale chooses to officially close the album out with, “Black Heroes”, or “88.” But herein lies a problem with Wale that he hasn’t seem to fix throughout his career. “Black Heroes” has a powerful vibe to it, with lines that will definitely persuade you to run the track back a couple times. The same can be said for “88”, however, those who aren’t as up on sports, or sneaker culture for that matter, may find themselves lost on “88” or simply pretending to understand. Essentially, “88” could be one of the best offerings off the album to some, and to others, a decent song with a strong Just Blaze instrumental.

Overall, The Gifted is a good album. Wale presents substance without being overly preachy, and still takes it back to the Go-Go for those who have been following him since Paint A Picture. While not without its flaws (the “Bad” remix was unnecessary, and probably done simply for the big name feature), those questioning the direction Wale was going post MMG affiliation will more than likely be pleased with The Gifted.

Videos : Mayer Hawthorne : Her Favorite Song

Videos : Mayer Hawthorne : Her Favorite Song

Who Is Mayer Hawthorne?
The “retro soul” tag is added to almost any contemporary work that sounds like it was originally recorded before 1980, and Mayer Hawthorne is aware of how trends come and go.

But, he says, he’s not interested in taking it back to the “good old days,” as much as he is in creating the “new good days.” And to fans like producer Mark Ronson, who said, “I have no idea what this is, old or new, but it’s fucking good!!!” upon first hearing Hawthorne’s music, age ain’t nothin’ but a number.

On How Do You Do, his first major label effort for Universal Republic Records, Hawthorne proves that he is not part of a trend. The classic Motown sound that provided the blueprint for his self-produced independent debut, A Strange Arrangement, remains, but is joined on How Do You Do by music reminiscent of late 1960s California pop and the best work from the likes of Steely Dan and Chicago.

“Hawthorne emerges with a jaw-dropping collection of classic soul,” RollingStone.com proclaimed upon hearing A Strange Arrangement, but with this latest release, the formula has been updated. The vocals are stronger, the music more varied and vibrant, but it’s still Mayer Hawthorne. And the message is love.

Hawthorne grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, just outside of Detroit, and vividly remembers, as a child, driving with his father and tuning the car radio in to the rich soul and jazz history the region provided. “Most of the best music ever made came out of Detroit,” claims the singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, who counts Smokey Robinson and famed songwriting trio Holland, Dozier, Holland among his influences, but also draws inspiration from Michael McDonald, Juan Atkins and J Dilla.

Hawthorne has produced and played instruments for much of his life, but never intended to become a singer. What he became, however, was a new school soul sensation, touring globally and earning accolades from Playboy, NPR and Entertainment Weekly. “He’s an able singer...an arranger of astonishing precision,” wrote the New York Times when Hawthorne first hit the scene.

On “The Walk,” the first single from How Do You Do, Hawthorne plays a man scorned and content with saying “So long, you did me wrong” to the lady in his life. “A Long Time” is both a brilliant homage to Steely Dan’s “Hey Nineteen” and a storied history of Hawthorne’s beloved Detroit, followed by a duet – yes, duet – with the incomparable Snoop Dogg on “Can’t Stop.”

“It's Snoop like you’ve never heard him before,” Hawthorne told Billboard.com before the two performed together at the South by Southwest music festival in March.

The rest of How Do You Do is a trip through generations and tales of love cherished and love lost. Songs like “Hooked,” “You Called Me” and “You’re Not Ready” are vintage fare, while “The News” and “No Strings” add a modern, 21st century flair to the proceedings. The album culminates in “Henny & Gingerale,” an ode to the signature cocktail complete with the party banter and pulsating dance floor R&B of Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up.”

Snoop Dogg once heralded Hawthorne as his new favorite artist, praise shared via Twitter by other stars such as Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and John Mayer. With the release of How Do You Do, such sentiment is sure to grow, just as Hawthorne himself continues to grow as an artist and performer. It was soul music from which he came, and those roots will never be left behind. But there is more to this artist than just soul music.

“A lot of my other influences are coming out on this record,” Hawthorne told Billboard.com. “There are a lot of other genres that are blending in now.

Cafe Circa Review By Pamela M. : Mableton, GA
I can finally remove this from my bookmarks but keep them in my top 10 grown & sexy places in the city limits to take visiting friends!

I headed out Sat nite with a friend visiting from NC, whenever she comes I like to try something a little different and although Cafe Circa has been around awhile, this was our time droppin in. The greeters were warm and friendly so that always feels good upon arrival + no cover charge !!!

I had a reservation for 4 I made on Open Table, and yes Cafe Circa did recognize it but we opted to try out the roof activity first. Oooo how nice, quaint and sexy, LOVED the roof action:-) As soon as we topped the stairs, there was live music with a keyboardist who sounded really soulful:-) Folks were looking fresh and smiling, the roof was ablaze with fragrance, aromas of food and nice oils and colognes.

I would say this is or should be an over 30 type of establishment, ladies and gents were looking good and conversations were of a mature and humorous nature. We were quite entertained for our first hour or so on the roof. There is a bar on the roof as well and a view of the happenings all up and down Edgewood. Parking is available on the street and in a small private free lot next door. We eventually ventured downstairs for our reserved table to catch the band about 11:30.... We ordered some tapas which consisted of calamari (seasoned well but chewy), jerk wings (tasty and very sauced), sweet potato fries (crispy and thin, the best I've had yet) and some fried green tomatoes ( I was forced to taste...LOL...and it was my first, actually they had good flavor). We ordered a few glasses of Reisling to wash it down.

Another reason I chose Cafe Circa is the band on Fri and Sats. My friends and I love live entertainment and the band (whose name I don't recall) was really good. I noted as I glanced around and socialized, the nice hardwood flooring, and overall tasteful decor. About 1 am I also noted the crowd change from the "grown" to the youngsters (under 30)..they were piling in from wherever and rapidly spreading about filling up the place. I was kinda surprised they would choose Cafe Circa, as there was no hip-hop playing and Soundtable + another club is across the street.

I was feeling Cafe Circa and look forward to another visit with them real soon:-)

Videos : Cimorelli : Made In America

Videos : Cimorelli : Made In America

Who is Cimorelli?
Search for “Cimorelli” on YouTube and there they are: six smiling sisters performing the pop hits of the day in an a cappella style, their voices blending in perfect unison. Not only do these girls know harmony, Christina (21), Katherine (20), Lisa (18), Amy (17), Lauren (13), and Dani (12) are each musicians who write their own songs, talents that impressed executives at Universal Records, which signed Cimorelli in April 2010.

“We all love different styles of music, everything from R&B and hip-hop, to country, to indie rock and ’80s synth-pop, which gives our music a unique edge,” says Lisa. “But as a group, we’re strongly influenced by The Jackson 5, The Beach Boys, and Stevie Wonder — classic artists who’ve inspired us to write, sing, and perform at the highest level possible.”

It’s not surprising that the Cimorelli sisters have high musical aspirations. Raised along with their five brothers in Sacramento, CA, each member of the group was introduced to music between the ages of two and four by their mother, Lynne — a college music major, composer, and former choir director who taught the girls classical piano, three-part barbershop harmonizing, and vocal jazz. In 2002, Christina, Katherine, and Lisa began to perform locally and recruited Amy and Lauren as they became old enough to join the group. The girls did musical theater, appearing in several productions while immersing themselves in dance, acting, and instrument lessons. (Christina and Lauren play keyboards, Amy plays rhythm guitar, Katherine plays bass, and Lisa plays the drums.)

In 2007, the oldest five girls launched Cimorelli as a vocal group. “We’d been singing together since we were young, so it felt natural to make it official,” says Katherine, who along with Christina and Lisa studied music theory in college. The girls focused on sharpening their songwriting skills and released a self-titled album in December 2008. Around this time, they began to notice the growing number of videos popping up on YouTube of young people performing covers of their favorite songs.

In August 2009, Cimorelli posted a clip of themselves singing Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA.” The girls’ upbeat energy caught the attention of thousands of fans, who began to flock to their YouTube channel, including a 13-year-old girl in London whose mother happened to be a well-connected music manager. Crown Music’s Sarah Stennett, who also represents British pop superstars Sugababes and rising singer Jessie J, signed on immediately and engineered Cimorelli a deal with Universal Records. Ten-year-old spotlight-stealer Dani officially joined the group this past summer and it’s been full steam ahead ever since. Cimorelli’s YouTube Channel, where fans can watch clips of the group performing songs by Katy Perry, Taio Cruz, and Bruno Mars, has racked up more than 250 million upload views since it was created two years ago and currently have over 850,000 subscribers; not that their success has gone to their heads.

“Even though we’re from a big family, we’re all very normal and positive,” says Christina, “and I think that’s what our fans relate to. A lot of them are girls our own age, and hopefully we can inspire them to pursue their dreams, just like we are pursuing ours.”

The girls are currently recording their debut album.

Cars : 2013 Porsche Cayenne GTS

Cars : 2013 Porsche Cayenne GTS

Porsche is (not) surprising us with yet another variation of its Cayenne SUV. As with the previous generation—and the Panamera sedan—the company is adding a GTS version, which is based on the V-8–powered S model but looks more like a Turbo. The new model will appear first at the 2012 Beijing auto show.

More Go, More Show
The Cayenne GTS makes 420 hp from a naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V-8; that's 20 more than the same basic engine in the Cayenne S. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with an integrated stop-start system. Porsche claims the sprint from 0 to 60 mph takes 5.4 seconds, reaching 100 mph takes 13.3 seconds, and the GTS’s top speed is an ungoverned 162 mph. The figures for the most recent Cayenne S we’ve tested, for comparison's sake: 5.5 seconds, 13.9, 157 mph. The GTS’s engine and transmission (with a final-drive ratio of 3.7:1 versus the S’s 3.09:1) work together to provide sportier reactions than in the Cayenne S.

The chassis is also modified for extra responsiveness. The Cayenne GTS sits 0.8 inch lower than the Cayenne S and employs stiffer dampers. The lower ride height is clearly noticeable, and it gives the GTS model a very aggressive appearance.

And appearance is mostly what the Cayenne GTS is about. Most onlookers won’t be able to distinguish it from the Cayenne Turbo: The hood and front fascia are identical to that model’s. In addition, the GTS gets high-gloss black window frames, a double-wing roof spoiler, wider fenders, lower side sills, and a sport exhaust with four black exhaust tips. Inside, the GTS is distinguished by leather sport seats with faux suede trim. Porsche’s Sport Chrono package is available, marking the first time it’s being offered on a Cayenne.

Join the Family
The Cayenne GTS joins a lineup that currently consists of the VR6-powered Cayenne; the V-8–powered Cayenne S; the Cayenne Turbo; the Cayenne S hybrid, with its Audi-supplied, supercharged V-6; and the just-launched diesel Cayenne with its TDI V-6. The GTS models have proven successful in the past, having included the aforementioned Panamera and first-gen Cayenne, as well as some 911 models offered at the end of the 997 generation.

The 2013 Cayenne GTS will start at $83,025, which is a hefty $17K more than a 2012 Cayenne S; a longer list of standard equipment on the GTS should make up for most, if not all, of that price difference. It will be at dealerships in August. If you don't need the extreme power of the Turbo—who does, really?—but you’re an extrovert nonetheless, the GTS is a natural choice.

Videos : M.I.A. : Bring The Noize

Rapper M.I.A has recently debuted the official visual for her 'insane' new song "Bring The Noize", which pays tribute to Public Enemy's 1987 classic of the same name. "Bring The Noize" is the latest single lifted from the British talent's upcoming fourth studio album, entitled "Matangi", due in stores this Fall of 2013 via N.E.E.T./Interscope.

"Bring The Noize" is your typical 'love it or hate it' M.I.A track, but, as in the cases of her latest releases, "Bad Girls" or "Born Free", the music video becomes the turning point in favour of the 'i love it' option. If you didn't like "Bring The Noize" from the audio premiere last week, then watch now the video premiere above - courtesy of Noisey.com, 'get' into M.I.A's world, and let your obsession with "Bring The Noize" begin. With a lot symbolism, blacklight, smoke, a cow, 'cray-crazy' dancing to the infectious chorus beat, and M.I.A showing both her soft and wild sides, in black and pink hair looks, respectively, the visual for "Bring The Noize" won't leave you indifferent.

Albums : Mac Miller : Watching Movies with the Sound Off

Albums : Mac Miller : Watching Movies with the Sound Off

Listen To Mac Miller : Watching Movies with the Sound Off

The first time Mac Miller appeared at the Forbes building in New York, he was a teenaged newbie with a handful of mixtapes and a buzzworthy debut album. He returned this past week with accomplishments befitting a veteran.

Now 21, Miller has appeared two years in a row on the FORBES 30 Under 30 list, picked up 2 million more Twitter followers and earned $6.5 million last year. On the heels of his first album, Blue Slide Park–which sold 144,000 copies in its opening week and became the first independently-released album to top the charts since 1995–Miller is set to launch his follow-up, Watching Movies with the Sound Off, on June 18th.

Despite plenty of interest from major labels, Miller has stayed with indie Rostrum Records, a decision he says was vital to the creation of his new album. In addition to getting a better royalty rate, he’s had the freedom to change his approach for Watching Movies.

His last album was more like the mother of all mixtapes–it didn’t have a major radio single or a slew of guest appearances–whereas his newest one features verses from the likes of Schoolboy Q, Jay Electronica and Tyler, The Creator.

“I think if I was with a major, I wouldn’t be able to put out this album, I’m pretty sure,” he says. “Actually, I’m pretty positive … I had a formula that was working beautifully, and then I just kind of ditched it. And so if I was on a major, they’d be like, ‘What are you doing?’”

Miller may not debut at No. 1 this time around, given that he’ll be going up against Kanye West‘s long-awaited album Yeezus, and he thinks he might not even make the Cash Kings list in 2013.

But don’t bet against him–with a summer of solo shows on the docket and a fall tour abroad with Lil Wayne, Miller figures to be much closer to grabbing a cash crown the next time he walks through our doors.

Watching Movies with the Sound Off Review
Mac Miller’s growth since 2011’s Blue Slide Park has been an exponential spectacle, with his atypical path leading up to Watching Movies With The Sound Off marked by a young man’s pursuit for harmony in a scene of personal skepticism. In between those 20 months in which this quirky, independent Pittsburgh emcee topped the Billboard charts, Mac has released a number of projects, none similar to the next, flirted with alter-egos, and dabbled in self-production, all the while dealing with an addiction to Promethazine that hampered his musical disposition. Now, Mac Miller is more focused, with his sophomore set lending a thorough look into the 21-year-old’s life.

Musically, this album can be traced back to moments of Macadelic and You, but his execution has unquestionably improved. With a melancholic backdrop seeping through his patient prose, “REMember” details the passing of his close friend, Reuben Mitrani. While still shaken, Mac finds solace in wisdom as he raps, “Your life’s short, don’t ever question the length / It’s cool to cry, don’t ever question your strength.” Elsewhere, he embraces his baritone vocals with the unexpected treasure “Objects In The Mirror.” The topic here plays off the metaphorical outline of his previous dependence to “lean,” and Mac’s ability to mirror his words as if he’s describing an unhealthy relationship speaks to his lyrical ingenuity.

Whereas Miller refrained from sharing the limelight on BSP, his guest selection for Watching Movies features a murderer’s row of new school misfits that bring out the album’s best moments. Whether it’s the vibrant glow on “Matches” or the eccentric tone of “Suplexes Inside Of Complexes And Duplexes,” Mac sharply raps alongside the likes of Ab-Soul and Jay Electronica with skilled precision. Then there’s the sensational pairing on “Red Dot Music,” where he saunters through lyrical acrobatics with Queens native Action Bronson. It’s a toss-up for best verse, but Miller definitely gets his licks in: “Word to my denim fiends, I'm Kennedy on ecstasy / My flavor from the nature, need an acre for my recipe / They got my soul, but I don't let them take the rest of me / My melody, a little like Kenny G's, it's heavenly.”

In the grand scheme of things, Mac Miller doesn’t completely leave his playful demeanor behind. Both “Watching Movies” and “Bird Call” sit on an island of sexual provocation, with the latter track pushing his lofty illusions to the max (“I used to give a fuck about success / Now I just want to see Mila Kunis undress / Hope she down for buttsex, it will be a cum fest”). He also hits a bit of a rough patch when channeling an existential perspective with “Aquarium,” issued through a monotone cadence. To be fair, there are some notably deep lines to be found here (“Read about the meaning of dreaming and all its messages / Sedatives that take me to God, witness his fetishes”), but ultimately how it fits into Watching Movies is unclear.

Whatever adolescent deficiencies Mac Miller dealt with throughout his prodigious rise as Rostrum’s second brain child, Watching Movies With The Sound Off genuinely keeps him grounded for a calculated performance that will earn him the respect he’s craved since his Easy Mac days. Miller doesn’t pander for a clear cut radio single, nor does he let the fear of Internet backlash obstruct his experimental approach. In that respect, the Pittsburgh emcee is right back where he started; kickin’ incredibly dope shit.
