iMacompanion USB 3.0 port gives easy access to a front USB port without compromising the beautiful, clutter free design of the iMac. Certain USB devices, such as a printer or a hard drive, may always stay connected to your iMac. They can therefore be plugged into the rear ports of the iMac and left there without a problem. However, when you want to add files from your USB thumb, or transfer photos, or other day to day uses for a USB 3.0 port - accessing them in the back can be a hassle! The iMacompanion solves that problem by giving you access to a front USB port while preserving the design of the iMac.

Gear : Bracelets : Misfit-Swarovski Shine Collection

Gear : Bracelets : Misfit-Swarovski Shine Collection

The latest from Misfit is undoubtedly its trendiest fitness tracker yet. Misfit has always strived for fashion, similar to the approach Withings has taken with its Activité and Activité Pop, but with the new Swarovski partnership, Misfit has taken it one step further.

By combining the Shine with nine different accessories, the fitness tracker is now even more of a discreet part of your day to day wardrobe. The different jewelry-esque pieces are a bit pricier than the Misfit Flash or original Misfit Shine though you get a diverse assortment to choose from.

From the wrap around Slake bracelets, the three pendants and the fancier watchbands, you can spend between $69.99 to $149.99 (about £46.14-98.88, AU$85.66-183.57). There are also three different sets that come with more than one accessory with prices that range between $169.99 to $249.99 (about £112.07-164.81, AU$208.05-305.96).

Then there's a solar powered jewel that is perhaps the most interesting part of the Shine collection - and it's not even up for pre-ordering yet. However it was on the CES 2015 show floor brightly on display.

The violet Swarovski Shine uses a patented "energy crystal" technology to allow for efficient solar charging on a small surface to power itself. The way the crystal is cut also supposedly allows the jewel to harness light better.

Misfit is claiming that the purple hued crystal is the "the world's first wireless activity and sleep tracker that utilizes an energy harvesting technology." The Shine simply needs to be exposed to light the retain a charge and doesn't require a cord or batteries.

Both the clear and violet crystal face designs feature the usual trackers: step, distance, calories, sleep quality and duration. They also use the same Misfit app

They are also waterproof to 50 meters, and with a hard double-tap on the top of the crystal, it will tell the time via a glowing ring of LEDs.

Though each time the representative tried to tap the crystal, it took a little while for the lights to pop up. My own taps apparently weren't enough for the sensor to register and the rep had to do it herself. Once the Shine worked, it was also difficult to actually see the LEDs underneath the crystal face. I couldn't tell if the devices weren't working or defective, after all, the battery lives are supposed to outlast the barrage of CES attendees, right? I'd have to test out the Swarovski's longer to see just how well they work, but they were undeniably fishy on the show floor.

The new wrist bands were comfortable and definitely fashionable. The previous Misfit straps already fit me decently and these weren't any different. The Slake wrap around was a little loose but should fit normal wrists perfectly fine. I'm not a huge fan of jewelry but I ended up longingly eyeing the black Slake strap.

The solar powered Misfit Shine is also a reasonable step for fitness tracking wearables. Charging all my smartwatches and fitness trackers has always been a huge hassle - especially with proprietary cords and cradles. Misfit has already been fantastic for its four and six month long battery lives with the original Shine and Flash, respectively. Now with the promise of a lifetime battery thanks to solar energy, it seems like the company will forge a new path for wearables.

The Misfit Swarovski Shine collection will be available for pre-order in the US exclusively on misfit.com, and will be for sale this spring in Swarovski retail locations in the US, Hong Kong and China and on Swarovski.com. The solar powered Shine will be on sale in June. Other global markets have yet to be announced though should also be on the roster for release.

Pre-order here.

Cars : 2015 Lotus Elise S Cup

Cars : 2015 Lotus Elise S Cup

After being spied testing on the Nurburgring Nordschleife on multiple occasions, the wraps have officially been taken off the 2015 Lotus Elise S Cup. Created as a road-going variant of the Elise S Cup R racer, the hardcore Elise is the most potent the company has ever offered for street us.

Powering the 2015 Lotus Elise S Cup is the same 1.8-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine as the Cup R race car. As a result, it produces an identical 217 hp at 6800 rpm as well as 184 lb-ft of torque at 4600 rpm. Thanks to these figures and the meagre overall weight of the Elise S Cup (just 932kg), it can rocket from zero to 96 km/h (60 mph) in just 4.2 seconds as well as a top speed of 225 km/h!

From a visual and aerodynamic front, the Lotus Elise S Cup is essentially identical to the Cup R. As a result, it features the same revised front bumper including the addition of a massive carbon fibre front splitter, new side skirts helping to provide additional downforce, lightened sports wheels and more. Those wheels measure 16-inch at the front and 17-inch in the rear and feature 175/55 ZR16 and 225/45 ZR17 Yokohama Advan Neova tyres respectively. At the back, the same rear wing as the Cup R is featured as is the massive rear diffuser and centrally exiting tailpipe.

This kit helps add an extra 66 kg of downforce at 160 km/h as well as 125 kg of additional downforce at the car’s 225 km/h top speed. Thanks to these additions as well as the potent little engine, it laps the small British automaker’s test track a full three seconds faster than the Elise S.

One key area where the road car differs however is that it is wearing standard Lotus Elise headlights. By comparison, the track-only special features completely black headlights because it doesn’t need them. A road-going example does of course. Finally, the production car doesn’t feature the racing livery of the Cup R.

Discussing the 2015 Lotus Elise Cup S, the company’s boss Jean-Marc Gales said, “The Lotus Elise S Cup is all about the pure driving experience with the Lotus attributes of high performance, light weight and excellent ride and handling. It is perfect for the driver who desires a quick, authentic, desirable and competitive sports car.”

News : Lil Wayne Suing Birdman For $8M

Things done changed… According to TMZ reports:

Birdman and Lil Wayne have officially declared war … settlement talks have broken down and Wayne will now sue his mentor, claiming among other things Birdman owes him $8 million.

As TMZ reported … the 2 titans tried coming to terms this week but it wasn’t meant to be. Now Wayne will ask a judge to declare him free of Cash Money and Birdman’s control. Wayne says Birdman has violated their contract by withholding the release of his new album.

As for the $8 MIL claim … Wayne says Birdman owed the money for his latest album — it was supposed to be an advance.

Birdman has held firm … he will release the album “in due time,” but clearly that’s not good enough for Wayne.

We’re told Wayne will keep recording but he will release his works outside of the Cash Money umbrella.

The real question is…who get’s custody of Nicki, Drake, and Tyga in the divorce?

Singles : Charli XCX : Doing It ft. Rita Ora

Singles : Charli XCX : Doing It ft. Rita Ora

Listen To : Charli XCX : Doing It

Miley's "Party in the U.S.A.". Ke$ha's "Tik Tok". Katy's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)". This is the chart-clobbering, brain-zapping, awe-inducing 21st century lineage to which "Doing It" clearly aspires—and just-as-clearly nails. You know it from that opening giggle, the kind of "what me worry?" laugh someone might let slip after splashing a creepy barfly with water, stealing a six pack, or draining a half-court shot. It is the sound of invincibility, of youth, of not having to be anywhere until tomorrow afternoon. Charli XCX is familiar with this sound.

Along with its bubble-pop perfection, "Doing It" doubles as a joyous sign of progress. The last time I can remember the phrase "doing it" so prominently featured on a hit song was on LL Cool J's gross-at-the-time (and utterly-gross-in-retrospect) "Doin' It" in 1996. (Sample lyric: "Baby stick it out, here comes the man of steel.") (Sorry.) But for all the implicit and explicit fun Charli has on "Doing It", the song is not even necessarily about sex. It's the latest salvo in the current wave of female BFF-core that has been dominating the Hot 100 for months, made even clearer by the track's new remix with Charli's fellow Londoner Rita Ora (who is really getting an awful lot of chances to break out Stateside). Ora's performance neither adds nor takes away from the song's instant-party jolt, but her mere presence—especially in the video, where the dudes are the ones in pasties—can't help but bolster the sense of camaraderie. Because "Doing It" is one huge high-five, and high-fiving yourself looks pretty dumb.

Gear : Watches : Breva Genie 03 Speedometer Watch

Gear : Watches : Breva Genie 03 Speedometer Watch

Who says you have to be a smartwatch to get some "smart" functions? Some traditional watch makers are definitely not buying the whole smartwatch trend yet and seem to be content to just to add some of those features one way or another. Some are placing transparent displays on top of analog faces while others are hiding the brains inside the strap. Breva has a rather interesting take, putting a makeshift speedometer on a Génie 03 traditional analog watch, without using any digital component.

The Génie 03 basically has a mini anemometer on top of the watch face, using the speed of the wind as a substitute for measuring the user's moving speed. Since it is actually only measuring the speed of the wind that passes through it, instead of measuring the actual movement of the user, it might not be as accurate and can be "cheated", but it can still be a good approximate when all you can use are springs and coils.

The "speedometer" rises about half an inch from the watch's surface when in use, making it look like you have a miniature weather station on your wrist. Beneath the speed indicators is a set of Robinson cups that spin based on user movement. But once the speed hits 50 km/h, the cups stop spinning in order to prevent the mechanisms from snapping. From then up to speeds of 200 km/h, springs are used to measure wind speed instead.

This trick lets the Génie 03 get some more functionality but at the expense of a shrunken down watch face. That said, some watches already do come with that design, so it might not be too much of an offense to some's aesthetic tastes. The Breva Génie 03, however, might be offensive in terms of price, with a tag of almost $60,000. Though that's half the cost of the Breva Génie 02, it's still a very steep price to pay.

Gadgets : Microsoft Hololens

Gadgets : Microsoft Hololens

Microsoft stunned audiences of Wednesday's Windows 10 event by unveiling HoloLens, the company's augmented-reality headset and platform.

Not only is the tech incredibly cool, the timing couldn't be better. Coming just a week after Google announced that it was going to hit the pause button on Google Glass so that it could better refine its message, HoloLens and Windows Holographic are proof that virtual and augmented computing isn't a space being solely explored by Google and Facebook's Oculus VR.

It would be easy to start comparing Microsoft's HoloLens with Google Glass. After all, both include weird-looking computers on your face. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella even made a few comments about Google Glass in the past tense and Microsoft seems eager to capitalize on the Glass developers who might feel abandoned by Google.

Still, in a lot of very basic ways, Google Glass and Microsoft's HoloLens are not similar. The end goal of making computing more contextual and visual may be true for both, but the experience — not to mention the positioning — is vastly different.

The experiential difference
Google Glass in its original incarnation was designed to be worn all the time. It was a "smart companion" and would offer up insight and a heads-up display for things such as directions, text messages, photos and alerts.

The idea behind Glass was to put everything that usually takes place on your smartphone's notification panel directly in front of your face.

With HoloLens, the experience is different. Not only has Microsoft positioned HoloLens as something a person would only wear for short stretches of time (and based on how it looks, that's a good thing), the experience is definitely heightened around use cases and certain activities.

In the concept video, Microsoft shows off the potential of using HoloLens as a way to get augmented instructions for how to fix a pipe and as a way to visually expand a computer workstation, a la Minority Report.

In the demos Microsoft showed off on stage, a user was able to use HoloLens and Windows Holographic to create a 3D model of a drone. That model could then be sent to a 3D printer for actual production.

Meanwhile, the fact that HoloLens and Windows Holographic work not just with voice but with gestures — a la Microsoft Kinect — makes the entire concept more malleable and seem more futuristic.

It's something you can take off
Still, the biggest change between the two products is that unlike Glass, which was sold as something you wear everywhere, HoloLens is something you take off.

This could actually be incredibly important for Microsoft when it comes to how this device is positioned to the public.

Part of the problem Google Glass ran into was one of perception. Few people wanted to be a Glasshole. Fewer still wanted to be seen with other Glassholes.

By setting the expectation that HoloLens isn't something you wear all the time, Microsoft as the opportunity to morph HoloLens and Windows Holographic into an experience that you eventually want to have everywhere.

Augmented reality takes off
For the last few years, we've seen a lot of companies really double and triple down on augmented reality. HoloLens could be the first concept to really show off the massive potential of those opportunities. Even better, Microsoft might be able to sell the experience as something users and developers actually want to embrace.

We can't wait to try it.

News : Johnny Depp Speaks On Actor Bands

News : Johnny Depp Speaks On Actor Bands

Johnny Depp has criticised actors who use their fame to launch music careers, calling the idea "sickening".

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star is an accomplished guitarist who has played on tracks by Oasis, Bob Dylan and Marilyn Manson. He also collaborated with Ryan Adams on new song 'No Shadow', which came out earlier this month.

However, the actor has insisted he has no intention of ever making music into a second career. "That whole idea for me is a sickening thing, it's always just made me sick," he told reporters at the Berlin premiere of his latest film Mortdecai (via The Guardian,). "I've been very lucky to play on friends' records and it's still going. Music is still part of my life. But you won't be hearing The Johnny Depp Band. That won't ever exist."

Continuing, Depp explained that he hates the idea of people paying to see him play guitar simply because they've enjoyed watching him in movies over the years.

"The kind of luxury now is, anybody with a certain amount of of success, if you have a kind of musical being, you can go out and start a band and capitalise on your work in other areas," he said. "But I hate the idea, 'Come see me play the guitar because you've seen me in 12 movies'. It shouldn't be [that way]. You want the people who are listening to the music to only be interested in the music."

Mordecai, an action comedy in which Depp stars opposite Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor, opens in UK cinemas this Friday (January 23). In September the actor joined Ryan Adams onstage for two nights at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire, playing guitar on a cover of Danzig's 'Mother' and 'Kim' from Adams' 2014 self-titled album.

Bars + Lounges : United Kingdom : Wales : Cardiff : Fino Lounge

Bars + Lounges : United Kingdom : Wales : Cardiff : Fino Lounge

Fino Lounge
Loungers was founded in 2002 by a trio of longstanding friends.

Having spent years working in the restaurant and bar trade, not to mention just about as much time propping up the bars of Bristol and far beyond (all in the name of research of course), these happy-go-lucky chaps decided it was time to do their own thing.

Our motivation was simple and very selfish; we wanted somewhere decent to drink ourselves. We weren’t too fussed about serving food (that was the happiest of accidents as it turns out) we just wanted something quite small where we could hang out & which Dave would run.

An empty optician’s on North Street, Bedminster seemed to fit the bill. It had the necessary planning consent, was just about big enough and was in reasonable condition. The ‘shell’ included an area earmarked as a kitchen & included kitchen extraction so we accepted that we’d be doing a bit of food and after a few months of sort-of-not-knowing-what-we-were-doing Lounge opened on Tuesday 29th August 2002.

We liked it a lot and, so it seemed, did lots of other people. We pondered about whether we should look to do another one, maybe on Gloucester Rd and in what was an absurdly short space of time we opened our 2nd Lounge (called Tinto) & we’ve been busy spreading the Loungers love ever since…

Fino Lounge Review By Andrew C.: Cardiff, United Kingdom
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Egg and Bacon Stack, people! There is no finer thing ever invented or to be invented. You see it's egg, and it's bacon, and it's in some kind of tasty stack.

This lounge is a great place to come for a long and lazy brunch. There are plenty of free newspapers to grab on your way in and they have board games like Scrabble, Jenga and Rummikub. It's a really relaxed atmosphere in the Fino Lounge where the staff are friendly and the food is really good. It's not super cheap, but nor is it too pricey, I suppose that would make it some kind of a goldilocks price range.

You could easily give over a whole Sunday to that place by grabbing your brunch and then playing a load of Jenga to build up your appetite for dinner. I know this to be true.

Top Tip: For parking take the first left after the lounge and there's a big free car park behind it.

Videos : Childish Gambino : Sober

Videos : Childish Gambino : Sober

As I figured out when I put together my list of last year’s 40 best music videos, Hiro Murai has arguably succeeded Nabil as the greatest director currently working in the music-video field. He made Flying Lotus’ “Never Catch Me,” my favorite video of the last year, and he was on that list more than any other director. One of his better videos from last year was the creature-feature clip for Childish Gambino’s “Telegraph Ave,” and now he’s reunited with Gambino to helm the clip for “Sober,” a non-rapped synth-funk track from Gambino’s recent Kauai EP.

In the video, we see a supremely intense and zonked-out Donald Glover doing whatever he can to impress a disinterested young lady in a diner. It’s a bit like Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” video, with the creepy undercurrents brought to the forefront. Great video, and Glover deserves a lot of credit for his physically intimidating performance and his alien facial expressions.

Bars + Lounges : USA : WI : Milwaukee : 42 Lounge

42 Lounge
We specialize in all things geek; in addition to playable gaming consoles, we also have tournaments, barcraft, cosplay events, wifi for handheld play, and a selection of gaming themed cocktails, all wrapped up in a swanky downtown nightclub.

Come down to play a few games, chat about Lord of the Rings, debate Star Trek vs. Star Wars, catch up on Doctor Who, pre-game for conventions, post-game for Ren Faire, or just relax after a long day at work.

42 Lounge Review By Hobbes C.: Milwaukee, WI
I don't even LIKE bars. They're a fountain of douchebaggery. if you ever want to come home smelling like shanks and booze, with glitter all over you, go to a bar, that's what I say.

Then the curve ball; 42 Lounge opened in April 2013 and i was immediately drawn to it. Being a gamer and avid nerd, it was easy to be attracted to something like this, especially because Milwaukee doesn't have anything else like it.

I knew there was a lot of things that could be done wrong with something like this, but i gave it a shot.

I was pleasantly surprised, the first time i walked in, at how much it felt like something i would do myself. The owners are amazing, the staff is very kind and welcoming.

the drinks change all the time; i'm not one to drink, but the cocktail list is something you simply have to try.

Even if you're not a gamer, the nerd/geek aspect of the place will speak to you on some level. everyone can walk into this place and find something they like about it.

News : A$AP Yams Dead At 26

News : A$AP Yams Dead At 26

A$AP Mob founder A$AP Yams has died aged 26, according to reports from other members of the hip hop collective.

The official Twitter account for A$AP Mob posted the message RIP @ASAPYAMS today at 1.14pm and fellow member A$AP Rocky shared a snap of Yams on his Instagram with the touching caption: "R.I.P YAMS, I LOVE YOU BROTHER."

Yams, real name Steven Rogriguez grew up in Harlem and founded the Mob with fellow New Yorkers ASAP Bari and A$AP Illz in 2007. They met ASAP Rocky in 2008, and by 2011 had signed major label deals.

Yams was one of the first progressive stars to use Tumblr to build his reputation as an online tastemaker. Speaking to the New York Times in 2013, he said: "Rocky’s like Luke Skywalker and I’m Yoda."

"We wanted to become big," he explained in the NYT profile, "but we didn't want to do it by hopping on somebody else's wave. We wanted to come in the game with our own wave."

While the exact cause of A$AP Yams’ death is unknown, some suspect drug use may have been involved as he tweeted about Codeine before his death.

Yams had been open about his struggles with codeine and Xanax, even briefly going to rehab last year.

“I got to chill,” A$AP Yams admitted two years before his death. “It’s not a good look up there in the office. They’re not gonna have any faith.”

Sorry Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, Adam Levine just made wedding crashing a lot more awesome.

The 35-year-old Maroon 5 frontman, who married model Behati Prinsloo in July, decided to spice up other couples' big days by crashing weddings all over Los Angeles on Dec. 6.

The result is the video for the band's hit song "Sugar," off their 2014 album "V."

"David Dobkin, who is an awesome director and a really dear, dear friend, decided to revisit the concept of obviously the original 'Wedding Crashers,'" Levine told Access Hollywood last month. "The only difference being we actually crashed weddings this time!"

"[We] literally showed up and played songs for these guys. They were surprised," he added.

Surprised is just the beginning. Check out the video above to see just how thrilled the couples were.

Future - Beast Mode

Future hit us with "Real Sisters", a Zaytoven-produced record, just in time for New Year's Eve, and soon after, news spread that the two were working on a joint mixtape.

Beast Mode impacts today, and should be another dose of pre-Pluto Future that he gave us with the Monster project, though Zay's bouncy compositions should make for a lighter experience than that tape's punishingly dark atmosphere. In other words, it should be more Astronaut Status than Dirty Sprite.

The 9-track offering features Young Scooter and Juvenile. Download it right now and let us know what you think.

02. Lay Up
03. Aintchu Feat. Juvenile

Gadgets : ThamlicLabs Myo Armband

Gadgets : ThamlicLabs Myo Armband

Well, telekinetic is only part of the story. Is telemusculokinetic a word too? Maybe that's redundant. Remote control muscles? Yeah, let's go with RC muscles. MYO armbands transform muscles--specifically the arm, or as I like to call them, the gun muscles--into remote controls that enable the wearer to interact hands-free with his or her digital world. With a MYO band in place at the elbow, users are able to harness the electrical activity of their muscles to wirelessly control devices such as computers, phones, video games, and app-centric toys.

Supporting both Windows and Mac operating systems, the MYO will basically make you the Jedi Master of presentations and Web browsing, zombie eradication gaming and music creation, and Quadricopter flights over Miranda Kerr's house (during which your mad skills will both dazzle her and record her doing hot yoga in the nude.) Once activated, the MYO senses gestures and movements through both muscle activity and motion sensitivity. When a user's arm muscles move, the band detects changes in hand gesture, down to individual fingers. When tracking the positioning in space of the arm and hand, it can detect subtle movements in all directions. Lag time between movement and detection are minimal. According to MYO's creators, the device sometimes even seems to recognize a gesture before your hand makes it, since muscles higher in the arm activate slightly before the wiggle message reaches the fingers.

The MYO functions with Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, and includes on-board, rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries, and an ARM processor. Plans to expand supported platforms to iOS and Android are in the works--APIs will be available to developers once the MYO, currently available for pre-order, is officially released.

Videos : FKA Twigs : Pendulum

Videos : FKA Twigs : Pendulum

2014 Rookie of the Year FKA twigs is well-versed in the world of unconventional music videos, her visuals for both “Two Weeks” and “Video Girl” equal parts provocative and beautifully weird. Her latest clip for “Pendulum”, another highlight off the Grammy-nominated LP1, is no different.

Here, there are instances in which twigs is seen tied up and suspended from the ceiling, others where she appears as some kind of goddess figure commandeering an alien blob. Some scenes even see her long braids morphing into some kind of tendril-like weapon. It’s a freaky and mind-warping watch to say the least, and one that’s definitely got twigs’ aesthetic written all over it.

News : Where Youth Stands On Social Media

News : Where Youth Stands On Social Media

19 year old, Andrew Watts, is a sophomore Management Information Systems major (marketing minor) at the University of Texas in Austin and penned an interesting glimpse into the world of teenage (and college) consumption (or lack thereof) of the biggest social networks. We see studies day in and day out from Gallup or Pew on polling that is then interpreted by all the hot tech blogs, but very few articles actually cite real, blood pumping teenage humans. And by the time the studies are published, most likely, the stats are dated – as teenage trends move in and out so quickly. What do they actually think, in their own words, about the various social networks? Watts lays it out:

Facebook

Watts states: “It’s dead to us. Facebook is something we all got in middle school because it was cool but now is seen as an awkward family dinner party we can’t really leave.” But, he mentions, everyone is on it and it’s “weird and annoying” if you’re not. The social order of how modern day collegiate friendships are made begins with a friending on Facebook. It’s less invasive as asking for a phone number. Watts mentions that the two most used Facebook features for his demographic are Messanger and Groups. Much to my confusion. I thought Groups died when Pages rolled out, but apparently, Groups are alive and well in college. Watts also thinks Facebook Messenger is replacing WhatsApp (possibly why Facebook bought it in the first place for $19 billion. Yes, with a B).

Instagram

“Instagram is by far the most used social media outlet for my age group.” He says that even though not everyone is necessarily on Instagram, everyone who is on it, uses it. He said that people like the anonymity of liking and tagging on Instagram (as opposed to Facebook where your friends will see every Like or Tag you’re involved with) and he loves that there are no links (no spam or BuzzFeed links). He says the content is typically higher quality and much more curated than on Facebook. And it hasn’t been flooded with the “older generation” … yet. So it’s still hip.

Twitter

“To be honest, a lot of us simply do not understand the point of Twitter.” He discusses the dualities of being yourself and not on Twitter. Some like to be searched. Some don’t. It’s harder to find friends. Most teens, he says, still have their identities attached to their Twitter profiles in some form and are happy to be followed by (and to follow) random strangers. He said there are three main groups of Twitter users: “the ones who use it to complain/express themselves, the ones who tweet with the assumption that their prospective employer will eventually see whatever they are saying, and the ones who simply look at other Tweets and do the occasional RT.”

Snapchat

“Snapchat is quickly becoming the most used social media network.” He explains, the difference between Snapchat and Instagram is in the etiquette. On Snapchat people will post photos and videos of their night as it happens. The good, the bad and the fugly. On Instagram they post “the cutest one of the bunch.” He likes that there are no comments and that posts disappear forever. There’s “a lot less social pressure attached to it” and what makes it so “addicting and liberating. It’s the real you.” Because there’s no searching past photos/videos (and everything gets deleted after a view), kids can post drinking, smoking, or whatever risqué shit they get into without fear of a future employer finding it.

Tumblr

Tumblr is very popular amongst teens and nearly untouched by the elders. Users can be totally anonymous, customize their profiles to their liking, follow anyone (and be followed by anyone) and post whatever interests them without fear of being judged. He says,”Tumblr is like a secret society that everyone is in, but no one talks about. Tumblr is where you are your true self and surround yourself (through who you follow) with people who have similar interests.

Yik Yak

Yik Yak is simple. There are no profiles and no followers. Anyone can post anything and it gets up or down thumbed (ala Reddit). Everything from “I just farted” to “Going to the girls basketball game tonight at 8.” He says everyone is on it before class, during class, and after class to find out what is going on around campus. Yik Yak is hyper local (only shows posts within a 10 mile radius). So he says completely unused during school breaks.

YouTube

Watts says that his peers regularly go to YouTube for specific channels and programs. Be it video game or makeup tutorials, comedy shows (exclusive to YouTube) or clips from other popular television shows like John Oliver, Jimmy Falon or Jimmy Kimmel. He says “YouTube has been a major part in replacing the amount of time I spend watching television due to the high quality of both original content on the site and more companies agreeing to put clips of their broadcasted content on the site.”

+Top YouTubers Reveal Their Secrets At Vidcon

Vine

Viners are now a thing. Some have agents. One of the most popular Viners, “KingBach” (Andrew Bachelor), charges $1,000 per 100,000 followers for sponsored Vines. With 10.3 million followers, that’s over $100,000 for one, 6 second video. The most popular Viners were not celebrities before Vine. Similar to popular YouTubers. Watts says that most of his peers go on it passively (to watch Vines) and very few actually create Vines themselves. Vine was created by Twitter and launched almost two years ago to the day.

Reddit

Watts says that, like Vine, most of his friends use Reddit passively. They visit it daily to catch up on news (and other random stories), but rarely post or comment. Possibly an occasional up or down thumb.

Google+

“I personally do not know anyone who actively uses Google+” Ok, that settles that.

Myspace

“At this point they need to just get rid of the name and rebrand. No matter how amazing of a site they build, Myspace will always be the butt of a joke.” So, yeah, they’ve been done for awhile now.

Interviews : Adam Lambert And Queen

News : Adam Lambert And Queen

'I’m not Freddie,” insists the bearded young American, lounging in a brocaded black and gold jacket, tight leggings and knee-high lace-up boots. “I’m not trying to be Freddie, or compete with Freddie. But I do feel some kinship and I’m seizing this opportunity to try and make his music come to life again.”

On the first day of 2015, the most searched for term on Google UK was “Adam Lambert”. It seemed the nation had been stirred into collective curiosity about the identity of the singer who welcomed in the new year with Queen. As fireworks exploded, 12 million viewers rocked to the sound of Bohemian Rhapsody and We are the Champions on BBC One.

This week, the group embark on a UK arena tour, performing to 160,000 fans before rolling on to the continent. It is all quite impressive for a band whose iconic lead singer, Freddie Mercury, passed away 24 years ago. So who is this young whippersnapper swinging the microphone in front of white bearded 65-year-old drummer Roger Taylor and frizzy haired 67-year-old guitarist Brian May?

“Adam is a phenomenon,” says May of the vocalist he first spotted on TV show American Idol. “We weren’t looking for another singer but Adam is kind of a gift from God. He has a technical ability beyond 99.9 per cent of singers in the world. You see that and can’t help but think, 'I wonder what would happen if we opened that box again?’ ” “My nickname for him is Camp Elvis,” says Taylor. “His presence and charisma reminds me of Presley in so many ways, the look, the showmanship, the overtly sexual attitude. He is absolutely scintillating on stage, a voice in a million, and the same was true of Freddie. There are almost frightening similarities, especially socially, as an overtly gay man full of wit and banter. There are moments backstage when it seems like nothing has changed at all.” “F--- yeah, I had doubts! It was really intimidating,” the 32-year-old Lambert proclaims, recalling his first performances with one of rock’s legendary bands. “Freddie is like a myth, how do you live up to that?” Lambert was just nine when Mercury died. He discovered the band through his parents’ record collection. “Everybody knows Queen peripherally, you hear them at sporting events and stadiums, my dad helped me make the connection between the music and the people making it.” So he was already a fan when he got a chance to sing We are the Champions with May and Taylor during the finale of American Idol in 2009.

“I was pinching myself. These guys were part of the golden era, you are looking at their pictures in books and magazines, then you look up and they are in the dressing room next to you.”

They got along well enough for Queen to invite Lambert to join them for a 15-minute set at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2011. “I made the mistake of going online and reading some of the comments after, and oh man, there were diehard Queen fans that were ruthless. I thought I’ve got to step up to the plate here.” When it was proposed that they play gigs together in 2012, he says: “I knew it would be an uphill climb every night, a big challenge on a personal and performance level.” They played six shows, in Russia and the UK. “I was winging it, that’s what it felt like.”

But when they reunited to tour America last year, something clicked into place. “I realised it’s no use being awestruck because we are in this together. I’d done my homework. I read every biography, watched every documentary, listened to every album. It’s like I’ve crawled into the music, its part of my blood now, I don’t have to think about it, I can just be. You let instinct take over and that’s when things get really interesting.”

Lambert has fantastic vocal range and control. “He’s a very daring singer,” according to May. “He goes for notes he’s got no right to reach.” Although still not particularly well known in the UK, American Idol made him a household name in the US where he has had two hit albums, even though he hasn’t enjoyed the kind of blockbuster career his talent probably warrants. “I don’t think pop music is really about how high you can sing,” says Lambert. “I’ve learnt a lot in the last five years. It’s not about technique, it’s about: are you cool? Are you likeable? Are you interesting? Is there something about you that grabs people? And oh yeah, you can sing too? That’s nice.” Charming, chatty, good humoured, Lambert comports himself with a light campness, wearing his sexuality easily. “Listen, I’ve been out of the closet since I was 18, and I’m not getting back in,” he assures me.

He was raised in San Diego in a creative, liberal household, and there was always a lot of music around. From the age of nine, Lambert became involved in theatre. When it became evident that singing was his strength, he took voice lessons and studied opera. From the age of 19, he was making a living in musical theatre, performing in productions of Hair, Brigadoon and Wicked. “I kind of slowly fell out of love with the idea of being onstage eight shows a week doing the same thing every performance, over and over again. Creatively, I really get off on spontaneity, impulse and novelty but those big Broadway shows become kind of corporate, locked-in things.”

In LA, during his 20s, Lambert fronted short-lived indie rock bands with a glam rock bent. “Bowie and Queen were what I dug into, the way they performed, the androgyny, the theatrical, campy persona. When I was coming up, there were a lot of girl pop stars pulling from that era, but when I did it, my eyeliner seemed to make people uncomfortable. Go figure.”

Lambert auditioned for American Idol, almost as a last roll of the dice. “I was 27, I knew I was past the prime zone, and I’m openly gay. I thought the worst that could happen was I would get some notoriety and it might bump my theatre career up a couple of notches.”

Lambert finished as runner-up (to Kris Allen). “That exposure as a person, that was the thing I needed to get to – a place where a record executive could look at me and go, 'OK, this is someone we could work with.’ ” What can never be quite determined is what part his homosexuality has played in determining Lambert’s career. Before the American Idol finale, pictures of him kissing a man became a major news item. Later the same year, when Lambert kissed his male bassist during a TV awards performance, ABC received so many complaints it cancelled his appearance on Good Morning America.

Lambert is credited with being the first openly gay artist to have a number one Billboard album in the US (Trespassing in 2012), and this despite the presence in pop of such figures as Liberace, Johnny Mathis, Elton John, Boy George, George Michael and, indeed, Mercury.

“Freddie dressed like a leather daddy in a group called Queen,” notes Lambert. “Back then, it was almost like people didn’t want to hear it, and they certainly didn’t want to talk about it. Right now, the US media is gay obsessed. My sexuality precedes everything I do. It is not the easiest thing to navigate. You want to be open and make your community proud, but at the same time you don’t want to alienate everyone else.”

Yet if Lambert has not quite become the superstar many predicted, it may also be because his contrived brand of glam-inflected pop is not individual or characterful enough to really warrant world domination.

His live collaboration with Queen has given him a global platform and it will be interesting to see how performing that killer catalogue night after night will shape his next solo offering. “Queen is not where pop music is today, but emotion is universal and timeless, and that is why the music endures. They went into every genre, almost. We’re doing bluesy rock songs and the campest baroque show tunes, it is like a variety show, it’s a great challenge for a singer.”

Rock bands never seem to fade away any more. As long as at least one member is alive, (and sometimes not even that many) they find ever more inventive ways to keep the show on the road, with video screens, holograms and stand-ins. Between 2004 and 2009, Queen toured and collaborated with British rock and soul star Paul Rodgers. This latest venture feels closer to the brash, flamboyant spirit of the band’s glory days. May proclaims himself delighted that Lambert can sing every song in the original key, adding “that was hard even for Freddie.”

“I had a little bit of trouble with Don’t Stop me Now,” admits Lambert. “The guys would say, 'Hey, it’s OK, you don’t have to do it just like the record. Freddie used to modulate down and find ways to make parts easier for himself.’

“But Freddie was allowed to do what he wanted because it was his song. I have a different standard that I’m up against. I have to do the big note or they’re gonna say I can’t cut it.”

There are no plans for Queen and Lambert to record together. For the moment it is purely a live experience. “When Freddie died, we sort of assumed that was it,” admits Taylor. “But new challenges arise and you think maybe there’s life in the old dog yet.” Original Queen bassist John Deacon left the band (and the music business) following the completion of posthumous album Made in Heaven in 1995. “It is everyone’s prerogative to retire,” notes Taylor. “But it’s like giving up on life as far as I’m concerned. I worked it out years ago. This is who I am.” “We ain’t a tribute band, that’s a no-brainer,” says May. “We built Queen, we lived and breathed it, it is part of us and we are part of it. It still feels as if Freddie is with us, because his music is always in there, his personality is on stage with us.”

“He is part of our mental wallpaper, which can be a little bittersweet,” says Taylor. “I would say it took five years to get used to the fact that he was gone. But the fact is, he’s not here, and we are celebrating and we salute him, and it’s not maudlin at all. I think he would have approved. And I know he would have liked Adam.” “Freddie and Adam have a very similar attitude to life,” concurs May, “a sense of humour and camp and lightness of touch. Queen have a serious side but, really, that little bit of humour is what keeps everybody sane.” “Singing his songs every night, I feel very close to Freddie,” says Lambert. “I wish I had his heavier tone, for sure. He smoked like a chimney and he’s got that real strong mid-chest voice. The way he attacks the note, it’s bad ass, it’s sexy, powerful.

“I’m a fan, and that is my connection with the audience. I feel lucky to be up here. I mean, weren’t Queen great? Listen, they still are.”

Gadgets : Bang & Olufsen NEEO

Gadgets : Bang & Olufsen NEEO

The smart home needs a remote, and one startup debuting on Kickstarter today thinks the smartphone isn’t necessarily the best option of that. NEEO is a dedicated device that includes a remote, as well as a brain to centralize control of your home, including your home theater equipment as well as connected gadgets like the Nest, Philips Hue and more.

NEEO is a Cupertino-based startup with a co-founding team that shares over 25 years of experience in the home automation sector between them. CEO Raphael Oberholzer is an electronics engineer with experience at Bang & Olufsen and Smart Home SA, a Swiss firm specializing in high end smart home system installation.

Oberholzer and his team found that there wasn’t much out there over the past few years in terms of smart remote innovation, and they wanted to produce a dedicated device that was designed to fit in with today’s tech and power innovations. The Logitech Harmony line of remotes has recently taken on smart home gadgets, and so will stand as a direct competitor to the NEEO, but this startup crew has designed a lot of features into NEEO that are not present in the Harmony lineup.

The NEEO has hand recognition, for instance, as well as a battery that runs of multiple months without a charge. A locator feature will make it beep when you activate it via an app on your smartphone, and it supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 6LowPAN, ZigBee, Z-Wave and Thread out of the box. The IR blasters built-into the hub cover a 360-degree range, and it has a learning mode for teaching it the IR codes of any gadget it doesn’t already support.

NEEO’s coolest feature might be that it is designed to anticipate your needs, using the hand recognition tech to provide you with favourites, playlists and other content on a 291 ppi 480×800 3.2-inch touchscreen based on identifying factors in your palm. It’ll support multiple profiles, and offer a guest mode for unrecognized hands, too. There’s even a companion app you can use on your smartphone along with the dedicated hardware.

The NEEO ships with a database of over 30,000 gadgets in its library for easy setup, and early bird backers can pick one up starting at $148 with pledges today. The team is lining up distribution of Kickstarter units in different batches, with the earliest batch shipping this April. That may seem ambitious, but functional prototype design has been finalized, and the purpose of the crowdfunding drive is just to make the last push to full-scale production. Dedicated smart remotes definitely lag their software counterparts in some regards, but smartphone apps aren’t a satisfying solution on their own, either. NEEO looks very promising in concept, so here’s hoping they nail the execution, too.

Gear : Shoes : Nike WMNS Air Huarache

Hear that? That’s the sound of another Nike Air Huarache landing for the ladies. This time around the park, Nike equips the Nike WMNS Air Huarache with a not too simple suede and neoprene construction which is shown off in Dark Purple and Hyper Jade, respectively. This rendition of the Nike WMNS Air Huarache shows off the craft within color blocking, developing an intriguing flow that flows along the upper.

The majority of the sneaker is set in Hyper Jade, but the the Dark Purple suede overlays quickly interrupts, cutting into the lacing system and toe cap. Likewise, Grey is used to break up the design, weaving into the toe box and highlighting the heel strap. The design id finished by Gold accents along the heel and town the middle of the tongue. It appears that this rendition of the Nike Air Huarache is only available at select European retailers, but if we hear any word of a stateside release, you’ll be the first to know.
