Bars + Lounges : USA : CA : San Francisco : Pisco Latin Lounge

Pisco Latin Lounge
PISCO Latin Lounge is the first modern day Pisco bar in the United States, located on Market Street in San Francisco- the city where Pisco was first introduced to the U.S. At PISCO we are dedicated to reviving Pisco’s place in the collective imagination of San Francisco’s vital bar culture. Along with a diverse & seasonal cocktail menu, we serve the original recipe for Pisco Punch. Invented here in San Francisco, Pisco Punch delighted luminaries such as Mark Twain & Rudyard Kipling. We house over seventy types of Peruvian Pisco, and offer a full bar, diverse wine list & assortment of Latin American small plates.

Pisco Latin Lounge Review By Yolanda M.: Dublin, CA

Came here during happy hour on a Friday night and headed straight to the bar. This place is divided into two areas, one more suitable for a meal, and the other with a more laid-back atmosphere perfect for grabbing a couple of drinks.

One of the first things I noticed walking up to the bar was the scent of fresh mint, instantly knew I wanted a mojito. When I asked the bar tender is they made mojito he playfully said no but eventually gave in and reassured me I wouldn't have to leave without one! I have yet to find a place that makes mojitos (in CA) as good AND strong as my friend and I do, however it was good and I would probably order it again.

Also ordered a sangria before heading out. Half way through the sangria I was surprise to realize I was starting to really feel the drinks, they were definitely a lot stronger than I had imagined they would be.

LOVED the music., they even have music videos playing on TV. Looking forward to coming by here next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Gadgets : DIY Cardboard By Google

Gadgets : DIY Cardboard By Google

When you think of virtual reality today, you probably think of the Oculus Rift or some mammoth setup that involves heavy machinery for your head, lots of wires, and a person fumbling around in another realm. But Google had something else in mind: cardboard.

At the company's annual I/O developers conference earlier this morning, Sundar Pichai, an executive vice president who oversees Android, announced that all attendees would get a mysterious package. He didn't elaborate about what was inside the package, though we now know Google gave out a virtual reality headset made from cardboard. Specifically, it's a do-it-yourself starter kit or housing unit for your Android smartphone.

Virtual reality has been a dream for decades. It has yet to fully emerge though, because the technology requires expensive, specialised hardware that not everyone, including developers, can afford. Google has come up with a solution however in which a smartphone drives the VR experiences. That solution is Cardboard, and it comes with an open software toolkit that makes writing VR software simple (like developing a web or mobile app).

And that's the key. Google isn't trying to make cheap virtual reality hardware. It is enticing developers to jump aboard and further the VR effort: "We want everyone to experience virtual reality in a simple, fun, and inexpensive way," explained Google on Cardboard's site. "By making it easy and inexpensive to experiment with VR, we hope to encourage developers to build the next generation of immersive digital experiences and make them available to everyone."

In order to build Cardboard into a working VR headset, you will need a pair of lenses with a 40mm focal distance, magnets, velcro, a rubber band, and an NFC tag. The NFC tag will enable you to tap a device to the headset and launch the Cardboard app right away. Yup, that's right. Cardboard has an app. Slip your Android device into the cardboard viewer, look through the special lenses, and use the Cardboard app to experience some Google services in virtual reality.

Early examples include flying where you want with Google Earth, watching YouTube videos through an immersive screen, looking around photo spheres, and more. But that's just the tip of the iceberg, potentially, as long as developers take advantage of the software development kit.

Google said Cardboard was created as part of a 20 percent initiative that allows Googlers to work on side projects. Gmail and AdSense are just two ideas that have also come from employees thinking outside of the box when not doing their normal duties.

Who Is Clean Bandit?
Clean Bandit are a British electronic group, founded in Cambridge, England, 2009. Their 2013 single "Mozart's House", released on Black Butter Records, reached number 17 on the UK Singles Chart. In January 2014, they scored their first UK Singles Chart-topping single with "Rather Be", featuring elements of classical music, along with a dance music beat. "Rather Be" remained at the top of the chart for four weeks.

Clean Bandit's music has been described as 'fusion' music, mixing electronic music with classical and deep-house elements. Most of their music intertwines classical compositions, such as those from Beethoven, Dvorak, etc. (most typically, Mozart for their song "Mozart's House") and they say that some of their music has a lot of humour and a bit tongue in cheek at times.

They produce the music themselves and invite guest artists to sing their songs. Initially, many record labels refused to sign them up as they thought they were a 'joke band.'

News : 36 People Hospitalized After Boston Avicii Show

Thirty-six people were hospitalized last night following an Avicii concert at Boston's TD Garden, and over 50 people were treated or evaluated at the event itself, The Boston Globe reports. No fatalities have been reported, and officials say that the concertgoers' symptoms were minor.

The patients were mostly minors, and most suffered from drug-and-alcohol related problems, according to The Globe. Despite the hospitalizations, Avicii performed his full set, The Globe reports. In May, the Toronto Star reported 29 hospitalizations after an Avicii concert, also mostly for drug and alcohol related issues.

Last night, Boston EMS Deputy Superintendent Michael Bosse stated that "there may have been some illicit drug involved, but none have been identified.” Police plan to interview the hospitalized people.
