Gear : Shoes : Brooks PureFlow 4

Gear : Shoes : Brooks PureFlow 4

Brooks has released the next generation of the PureFlow running shoe line, the PureFlow 4. Much of the shoe has stayed true to its past iterations, but even the most minuet changes to the PureFlow 4 make it a significant upgrade over the PureFlow 3. The shoe is still incredibly comfortable and gets even more so over time. The shoes contour to your foot, providing comfort with each step. But even if you don’t use these as running shoes per se… the new colorways are an extremely handsome looking shoe for general strolling around in too. In fact, I got complimented repeatedly on how good they looked.

One of the most impressive aspects of the PureFlow 4 is just how light the shoe is. I almost thought the box was empty when I received them, and the same sensation flows through when you put them on. The shoes are extremely aerated with the new design by the toes, preventing your feet from sweating when you do plan on that long run. Another nice feature is the newly redesigned tongue that lays flat without having to worry about bunching. We walked for hours and didn’t experience any uncomfortable bunching with this redesign, which is a welcome change from the traditional design.

When I did take them for a run, I could really feel the Brooks BioMoGo material which provides a nice lightweight bouncy sensation every time your foot hits the pavement. For those that have a tendency to roll in as you run, the PureFlow 4 provides a lot of cushioning to keep your foot as even as possible with the ground, but it doesn’t provide all that much for your heel. In the first few hours of wearing the shoes, I noticed how much shock was absorbed, but it was a bit uneven at first. However, as I’ve continued to walk and run in the PureFlow 4, they have slowly begun to mold to my feet and I have gotten more used to how the shoe responds to when I do roll-in. Despite that, it is still an incredibly comfortable running shoe.

Verdict

Whether you run, walk, or skip – good shoes are essential for your feet. The Brooks Women’s PureFlow 4 are amazing sneakers that are super lightweight and essential companions for when you are in the mood for a long run or walk. The Brooks BioMoGo technology continues to shine through and provides that lightweight bouncy feel. So not only are these comfortable, but the new colorways make them stand out from the crowd. The PureFlow 4 retails for $110.00 and are available now.

The Good: The PureFlow 4 is all about the details – the redesigned tongue, extra aeration, and sweat reducing fabrics. The Brooks BioMoGo sole provides the comfort and bounce we have grown accustomed to with the PureFlow running shoe series.

The Bad: Not a lot of shock absorption for your heels. Will only last 250-300 miles… so if you run a lot, be prepared to replace these shoes sooner than later.

Singles : Kendrick Lamar : The Blacker The Berry

Singles : Kendrick Lamar : The Blacker The Berry

Listen To : Kendrick Lamar : The Blacker The Berry

Kendrick Lamar has unveiled a brand new single entitled “The Blacker The Berry”. Produced by Boi-1da, the track features a gruff and brazen King Kendrick taking on his haters — racists in particular. Over a dusty, thumping beat, he proudly holds up his heritage like a weapon. “I’m African American, I’m African, I’m black as the moon,” he spits powerfully, adding, “Came from the bottom of mankind/ My hair is nappy/ My dick is big/ My nose is round and wide/ You hate me don’t you?/ You hate my people, your plan is to terminate my culture.”

“The Blacker The Berry” follows the release of “i”, which was awarded Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance at the Grammys last night. It also ranked highly on Consequence of Sound‘s list of Top 50 Songs of 2014. Additionally, Kendrick debuted an as-yet-untitled song on The Colbert Report back in December. It’s unclear which, if any, of these songs will appear on Kendrick’s new album, due out later this year.

News : Starbucks To Give CDs The Axe

News : Starbucks To Give CDs The Axe

Starbucks announced yesterday that it will stop selling CDs in their 21,000 retail stores by the end of March. Once you’ve lost Starbucks, you’ve lost the game. CDs are done. MacBook Pros don’t come with CD drives anymore. Fewer new cars are coming with CD players. And with the seamless integration of Spotify, Pandora, and iTunes from the phone to the car (and smart TVs), CDs are becoming more of a hassle and offering less convenience than they once did.

Last year, Americans bought 257 million albums – an 11% drop from 2013. Of those, 140.8 million were CDs (a 15% drop from 2013). And only two CDs went platinum (Taylor Swift’s 1989 and the Frozen soundtrack). However, 9.2 million vinyl records were sold – a 51.8% increase from 2013. And now vinyl accounts for 6% of ALL album sales.

2014 will mark the last year CDs surpass digital album sales. And this drop will be drastic. Target’s CD sales dropped 19% last year. How much longer will they hold onto the format? I give them 1-2 years.

Vinyl sales will continue to rise.
Barnes and Noble, Urban Outfitters, Whole Foods and Hot Topic have recently gotten into the vinyl game. And my money is on Starbucks to follow. Vinyl sales will never make up for the drop in CD and digital sales, however, at least there is a growing niche group of Millennials (myself included) who are engaging in a full-on, tactile-accompanied, active listening experience.

Streaming, of course, is the dominant format in which most are listening to music. In 2014 there were 476 million “albums sold” – according to Billboard’s new system of 1,500 streams = one album sale.

And this will only increase. Fighting streaming has been a losing battle and it’s quite embarrassing how many are still on their anti-streaming rampage. Fighting for higher royalties from streaming services is noble. Hoping they would all just die so we could return to the age of $18 CDs is just stupid.

Starbucks And Music
Since purchasing Hear Music in 1999, Starbucks has jumped head first into the music business. They even created their own label and released original material from Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, Alanis Morissette, James Taylor, Sia, Carly Simon and Ray Charles, along with many compilation albums. They started offering their Song of The Day download cards in 2007 and the program has continued with Pick of The Week download cards which now include apps. Starbucks has no plans to end this program anytime soon.

With the revamp of their smart phone app, not only can you pay for a coffee by scanning the barcode within the app on your phone, but you can download the Pick of The Week seamlessly.

“Starbucks continually seeks to redefine the experience in our retail stores to meet the evolving needs of our customers. Music will remain a key component of our coffeehouse and retail experience, however we will continue to evolve the format of our music offerings to ensure we’re offering relevant options for our customers. As a leader in music curation, we will continue to strive to select unique and compelling artists from a broad range of genres we think will resonate with our customers.” – Starbucks rep

Offering CDs in Starbucks stores was never intended to be a money maker for the coffee chain. It was to enhance the experience for their customer. By offering CDs at the register, it encouraged a conversation with the barista (“Partner”) and the customer. When I worked at Starbucks back in 2007, I’m pretty sure more CDs were stolen than purchased. And our manager wasn’t too concerned about it. I remember her saying that Starbucks built theft into the price.

Starbucks has always been a leader in progress. From their healthcare offerings to employees working just 20 hours a week (long before Obamacare), to the Create Jobs For USA bracelets which raised money for small business growth, to paying for their Partners’ college education. Progress, however, does not include antiquated plastic discs.

Looking for a venue to fuel the ultimate private event? Make your only choice for private parties and events. Diesel is open Friday and Saturday from 9pm-2am for “club nights”.

Diesel Club Lounge Review By Lizzy K.: Pittsburgh, PA
"Diesel, for all appearances, is like an episode out of Jersey Shore. Young college goers are fist pumping, there's always a way to drunk girl slamming and falling in to everyone, and if you're a girl alone dancing? There's guys sneaking up behind you grabbing your hips, or pulling you by the arm.

Security is tight. Any time I've had an issue with a guy and his unwanted attention the bouncers see it and are right next to me helping. That is so important as a woman who often goes clubbing alone.

That being said! I've never not had a good time here, and it's a usual stop for me every weekend. While college students are the majority, you will find people of all walks in age, orientation, and style mixed in to the minority part of the crowd.

The bartenders are insanely fast even when the place is so packed you can hardly move, and the bartender Jimmy (I think is his name) does those awesome bartending flair tricks. I've even seen him spit fire. Drinks are reasonable too, $5 for a simple mixed drink.

It's so loud, but the music is good. The dancefloor after 11pm is always packed. You're guaranteed a crowd. I've never experienced VIP here, I prefer to float about the entire place. I always meet great people here. The VIP must be good though, those areas are always full.

There's also a live DJ every weekend. Coat check is available, though it seems to only open after it gets busy. That's annoying because you have to wait in a line to drop off and pick up your stuff, though they've never lost anything of mine.

Finally, the bathroom attendant is sooo nice! And she's on top of everything. Once my deodorant started to fail, and she had some for customers. She's awesome.

Always a great time here!"

Car : 2016 Kia Sportspace

Car : 2016 Kia Sportspace

Kia has taken the wraps off a new concept, set to debut at the Geneva motor show during the first week of March. Dubbed Sportspace, the concept is meant to preview a next-generation Kia Optima, replacing a model which has been on sale in various markets since 2010.

The Sportspace concept is a midsize station wagon with a dramatically styled D-pillar, meant to serve as a grand tourer. The design of the front fascia is an evolution of Kia's "tiger nose" grille, while the rear section has a distinctly Italian look to it -- it doesn't take much squinting to see an Alfa Romeo shield in place of the Kia badge on the rear hatch. The Sportspace concept was developed at Kia's Frankfurt design studio, previewing a body style still very popular in Europe.

"We set out to design a car that is a totally new breed of grand tourer -- one for active people who need reasonable cargo space on the weekend, but don't want to compromise moving around in style, comfort and with an element of sportiness," said Gregory Guillaume, chief designer of Kia Europe.

The current Kia Optima is not offered as a station wagon in other markets, so we'll have to wait and see whether the company will make a choice to expand the range. Right now Kia's stateside lineup lacks what we would consider a station wagon in the classic sense, unless one counts the five-door Forte5.

The next-generation Optima is expected to debut late in 2015 as a 2016 model year sedan.

Gear : Glasses : Oakley X Metal Collection Shades

When you’re a successful company, sometimes you can afford to roll the dice. Oakley did just that back in the 90s with its X Metal line of shades, using high-tech materials and radical designs to set itself apart from the typical eyewear. Now, after a hiatus, the X Metal Collection is back.

The new X Metal collection features two designs (Madman and Badman) that combine lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum alloy and the company’s trademark O Matter frame material. Both speak the aggressive industrial design language of the X Metal DNA, but the Madman glasses, with their evil scientist vibe, are the real attention-getters. The comfortable Three-Point Fit is even enhanced with the sure grip of “Unobtainium” components, which we hadn’t heard much about since Avatar.

News : Weezy Readies Free Album

News : Weezy Readies Free Album

The Cash Money camp has been quite shaky over the past few months, as Lil Wayne has been claiming that Birdman refuses to release his long-delayed Tha Carter V album. Since then, Weezy has allegedly sued the record label CEO (and his former BFF) for a whopping $51 million. According to TMZ, he states that Birdman is withholding tens of millions the label owes Wayne for the pushed-back LP.

Now, Lil Wayne is working on a new project — The Free Weezy Album. He spoke to Rolling Stone on his current musical plans as well as alluding to him and Birdman not being on speaking terms. “I have no words. I’m super-numb to it, to tell you the truth,” the rapper said.

He also wants to release the Free Weezy album in March: “I’m working on it every day, man,” he says. “I guarantee it’s going to be something dope. If you don’t want a musician being creative, don’t get The Free Weezy Album.” As for Tha Carter V‘s status? Wayne tells Rolling Stone, “It’s super-done. Cake baked, icing on top, name on top, candles lit. I would have released it yesterday if I could. But it’s a dead subject right now. It’s a jewel in the safe. It’s that stash-house money.”

Videos : Madeon : Pay No Mind ft. Passion Pit

Still one of the most innovative minds in dance music, Madeon is on quite a roll. With his upcoming album almost wrapped up, Madeon continues to tease the upcoming release by unveiling the music video to his collaboration with Passion Pit, “Pay No Mind”.

“Pay No Mind” makes full use of Michael Angelakos’s vocals, playing along well with the glitchy and poppy synths to the point where I wouldn’t be surprised if the track was listed as Passion Pit – Pay No Mind (Prod. by Madeon). If this song is any indication, which I don’t think is a very fair assumption in the first place, Adventure will turn out to be the pop-electronic album of the year.

Infectious and common guitar chords trod along to the keyboard synths, melding along with the bouncy and cheerful bassline, but it never really astounds me at any point in the mix.

Listen To : Migos : One Time

Sorry hip-hop elitists, but Migos is officially the hottest rap group in the game at this moment. For the past two years, the trio has cultivated a deafening buzz for themselves and have built a following of loyalists that champion their stuntastic musings and unique flows. Well, the scrimmages are over and now is the time for Migos to prove themselves on the biggest stage via their upcoming major label debut, ‘Y.R.N.: The Album.’ Fans of the group are in for a pleasant surprise today, as Migos has unleashed the lead single to the LP, ‘One Time.’ Produced by Deko, the track is less rambunctious than their previous hits and has a more relaxed vibe to it, but still possesses all the hallmarks of a Migos record: exquisite adlibs, flamboyant lyrics and infectious flows. Only time will tell if ‘One Time’ will have the lasting impact of Migos bangers of past, but one thing is clear: ‘Y.R.N.: The Album’ is one of the more anticipated musical projects of the year and the first warning shot has finally arrived.

Cars : 2015 Porsche 901

The Porsche 911 is easily one of the greatest vehicles on Earth. And while we are in love with the coupe (and nearly everything Porsche produces), we never really thought about how awesome a “little brother” model would look. That’s just what we have here with the Porsche 901 concept.

Ege Aguden is an automotive design student at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and he’s clearly more talented than most. He’s decided to conceptualize his very own Porsche model (the 901), and put the entire process on display for everyone to see. You can see him start with the base, get the size just right, then dial in the final details. And while the removal of the ducktail in the sketches was a bit disappointing at first glance, we must say the end result was nothing short of gorgeous.

Gagdets : Neptune Duo

Gagdets : Neptune Duo

The Neptune Duo is an intriguing new product from the start up firm which brought us the phone-in-a-watch Neptune Pine last year.

Where as the Pine got rid of your smartphone completely, the Neptune Duo wants you to keep hold of a larger screen, but it gives all the power to the smartwatch - aka the Neptune Hub.

The quad-core processor and other components are housed in the bracelet style band which includes a speaker and microphone plus 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC connectivity.

You'll have access to all your core smartphone functions on the Hub's curved 2.4-inch display, but if you need more space you can whip out the Pocket Screen (or the Neptune Pocket, to give it its official title) for a full Android Lollipop experience.

The Pocket Screen is thinner, lighter and cheaper than a traditional smartphone, sporting a 5-inch 720p display, front and rear (8MP) cameras and a 2800mAh battery.

Show me the money
The Neptune Duo won't ship until towards the end of the year, but you'll can reserve yours from February 17, with a variety of payment options available to you.

If you don't fancy putting any money down up front the Neptune Duo will set you back $798 at time of shipping. Put down $49 and the price at shipping drops to $649, saving you $100.

You can save $200 by paying $199 upfront and then $399 when it's ready to ship, or if you're feeling flush (and confident in Neptune's claims) put down $498 now and pay nothing more - a saving of $300.

Bars + Lounges : Canada : British Columbia : Vancouver : The Alibi Room

Bars + Lounges : Canada : British Columbia : Vancouver : The Alibi Room

The Alibi Room
What do we mean, “Modern Tavern”? – Well, we feel this term best sums up what we are trying to achieve here at the Alibi Room.

Since summer 2006, new owners Raya Audet & Nigel Springthorpe have been quietly turning the Alibi Room into the place for local craft beer on tap. We have become a true Free House, pouring guest beers from all over the province and beyond.

Head chef Greg Armstrong has added an understated sophistication to our very accessible menu. The menu reflects a strong desire to provide familar, comforting dishes with an emphasis on quality ingredients.

All of our meat, fish & poultry are either sourced locally, ocean friendly, naturally raised or free run.

We are of the belief that beer can be at least as versatile as wine when it comes to food pairing. We pour multiple taps, plus a rotating cask selection from our beer engines. Each usually representing a local brewery, often available exclusively at the Alibi. Occasionally we are approached by some U.S. micro breweries with “one off” kegs. We have put together one of the most diverse selections in the province & encourage you to come try the best beer B.C. has to offer.

However, we are not total beer snobs. Our wine list features local boutique & organically grown wines. We also have a very creative house cocktail list.

The building is a heritage site, which was erected over 100 years ago. It is positioned along the railyard only a short distance from Vancouver’s trade and shipping ports. All of these elements combined make for a unique and inspiring experience. The Alibi has established itself as a place for neighbours and community to share in great food, fantastic beer and culture.

The Alibi Room Review By Alan G. F.: Vancouver, Canada
"After watching Lakers games, and experiencing concerts at Hyde Lounge, it was time to take in a Kings playoff game from Suite Level C.

The Alibi Room - like the Pour House it's hard to believe this is a Vancouver establishment. Tucked away in a corner of Gastown that's about as far from Gastown as you can be and still technically be in Gastown, the Alibi Room still managed to find an early and faithful following.

In the early days, way back in the 90s when Vancouver's film industry was booming, the Alibi Room catered to that crowd. Fast forward to 2014, Gastown is no longer the junkie's paradise it once was, now it's filled with trendy stores, expensive lofts and many new restaurants and bars, and despite all of the new competition the Alibi Room is still going strong.

With good reason. They had a huge selection of craft beers before most people had heard the term, 'craft beer' it changes regularly and the bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beers on tap and are happy to share that knowledge with you (as opposed to looking down their noses at you because you haven't heard of the latest Oregon farm brewed organic pumpkin stout).

As well, in keeping with the communal atmosphere of the place, they actually (gasp!) allow to migrate from bar to table. Furthermore the Alibi Room is a rare Vancouver watering hole where you can actually talk with strangers and they won't view you as some unwanted alien species.

And the food...it's more than decent, they have their creative moments and not all succeed, but generally speaking the food is of a very decent quality for a venue like this.

News : Iggy Azalea Ragequits Twitter

Iggy Azalea, reportedly, has quit Twitter.

The 24-year-old rapper is known for sharing her strong opinions via social media and has engaged in online spats with the likes of Azealia Banks and Snoop Dogg.

But now she's thrown in the towel and decided to stop trying to win a battle from behind her computer.

"I feel the hatred and pettiness i see online at all times is at making me become an angry person and I cannot be that," she notified her followers.

"To become nasty because of the way I feel iam treated would be a disservice to my fans and I promise i will try to keep smiling.

"But I also want to let my fans know iam taking some time away from social media. I need to be happy and it is too negative and draining.

"My management will tweet/run my accounts from today onwards with updates etc unless any message is signed -IA. Love you all. Peace out!

"The Internet is the ugliest reflection of man kind there is."

Iggy had been taking a break from her busy schedule to spend time with her boyfriend Nick Young in Hawaii.

The pair were snapped looking loved up while they enjoyed the sunshine, with Iggy wearing a red bikini. Some of the photos showed up some dimples on her butt and thighs, with people quick to comment. It was this that sparked her decision to leave the Twittersphere.

"Just got back from a great vacation, came online and saw apparently it's shocking and unheard of to be a woman and have cellulite. Lol." she wrote.

"I just want to have peace and relaxation time without a perve with long distance lense hiding out taking pictures, everyone deserves peace."

The lights begin to shimmer at Coachella’s Gobi Tent, as the curious crowd packs the stage to witness a never-‐before-‐seen act, something unexpected occurs; 10,000 people compelled to sing in unison. It’s the result of a tangible feeling hanging in the air, that this is the birth of a movement; this is the birth of GALANTIS.

At its core, GALANTIS is two friends making music together. The fact that they’re Christian Karlsson, aka Bloodshy, and Linus Eklöw, aka Style of Eye, is what changes the plot. The accomplished duo’s groundbreaking work as GALANTIS destroys current electronic dance music tropes, demonstrating that emotion and musicianship can indeed coexist with what Eklöw calls “a really really big kind of vibe.”

Earning the rare honor of debuting in a primetime slot at Coachella, the festival of festivals, GALANTIS quickly became the talk of town. The packed stage and thrilling live show earned the attention of Dancing Astronaut, who named the set Best Debut of the festival, while an online poll from Billboard Magazine found GALANTIS shattering the competition for Best Dance Music Moment at Coachella.

“GALANTIS is about challenging, not following”, says Karlsson.

This is pretty darn cool. It's called Popslate -- an iPhone 5 case with a four-inch E Ink screen on the back -- and it's launching right now on Indiegogo for $79 in two colors. Combined with a bespoke social imaging app, it lets you take and share pics, then "pop" them to the back of your phone. Better yet, the always-on, ultra low-power, black and white display becomes a canvas for notifications, sports scores, maps, lists and notes, all just a glance away.

An open API allows third-party developers to design custom apps for Popslate -- including accelerometer support to interact with the backside screen by tapping on it. Imagine a micro e-reader app which uses the E Ink display instead of the main panel to conserve battery.

The company is still in the early stages of development and sadly didn't have a prototype to show us, but it's already gathered a team of talented designers, engineers and developers. It's also secured a partnership with E Ink to use the latest in ruggedized e-paper technology and is hoping to raise enough funds to make Popslate a reality. Two colors are available at launch (black and white) with prices starting at $79 for the first 500 supporters, then $99 and up.

Club 0ne15 Review By David W.: Edmond, OK
"Best bar in Bricktown OKC. There is something for everyone here. Two dance floors, a smoking lounge and a VIP lounge. The drink prices are descent for a bar downtown. There are TV's everywhere and one big one so you can watch your favorite team on game day. The only downside is they charge cover (which is $10 so not too bad for a downtown club) which I think is an outdated concept these days. And to their credit they didn't jack up the cover for Halloween like Groovy's does and even ran a special that if you bought one of these light thingy's from them on the street it was $5. If you're going to pay cover there needs to be a live band or something (a DJ is not 'or something'). But otherwise you could do much much worse in Bricktown (see my review for Coyote Ugly)."

News : PETA Targets Chris Brown

News : PETA Targets Chris Brown

Chris Brown has been criticised by animal rights group Peta ('People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals') for wearing fur during a show at New York fashion week.

In a statement released online, Peta labelled Brown as "out of touch", accusing him of "more ugly violence", making reference to the singer's 2009 felony charge after assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna.

"There are few things more out of touch than draping yourself in the skins of animals who were beaten, electrocuted, and even skinned alive for their fur," the statement reads. "Pink’s New York Fashion Week Peta billboard shows that true beauty comes from kindness – Chris Brown’s furs are just more of the same from him: ugly violence."

Brown was pictured wearing fur at the Michael Costello runway show earlier this week, with a photo later uploaded to Instagram.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles police searched Brown's car earlier this month (February 6) after receiving an anonymous tip that his passenger was carrying a gun.

TMZ reported at the time Brown was attending rapper TI's pre-Grammy party at Hollywood's Sayer nightclub when law enforcement detained a friend of the singer before searching his Lamborghini. No weapon was found by the police officers.

Just last month, during an appearance at a San Jose nightclub, Brown was forced to flee the stage after gunshots were fired. Five people were injured in the gunfire and several people were arrested following the incident.

It wasn't the first time a weapon had been discharged at a Brown event. Last August, at pre-MTV Video Music Awards party hosted by the 25-year-old at the he 1Oak nightclub in West Hollywood, former CEO of Death Row Records Marion 'Suge' Knight Jr was injured after being struck several times when shots were fired.

Gadgets : Spaced360 Speaker System

Gadgets : Spaced360 Speaker System

Bluetooth speakers come in all sorts of shapes and sizes these days. Spaced360 is something a little different: a three-pointed-star-shaped speaker capable of throwing sound out through 360-degrees. It embodies Orbitsound's Airsound technology which is designed to deliver immersive sound wherever you are in relation to the product.

The thing that makes Spaced360 stand out is that it's not a boring box-shaped lump. It looks different and feels quality too. Its trio of 2-inch speakers are finished with rubber cones and matched with a trio of bass radiators tucked behind a metal chassis for a discerning quality finish.

It's distinct, but is it decent? And for its £250 asking price can the Spaced360 stand out above numerous other companies in this category? We've been all ears for the last week to see what we make of it.

Design

Available in black or grey finishes, the monotone colour options of the Spaced360 aren't what makes it shine. We were all ready to see a list of luminescent colour options but, no, it's classic all the way in this regard. There are optional neon colour cases that can clad the product should you want to spend an extra £30 to give your purchase some personality.

The choice of materials is one aspect of where the Spaced360's price tag comes from. We've seen plenty of £150 plastic Bluetooth speakers, but they just don't look premium. The Spaced360 is different: those metal grilles aren't an afterthought, as they embody the design and the shape. We're not talking £1,000 Bowers & Wilkins single-piece metalwork here, as there are plastic joins, but everything feels sturdy and is well crafted.

As this is a Bluetooth speaker controls on the device itself are limited, but we prefer it that way. There's a central press-to-pair Bluetooth button, with volume up, volume down and mute making up the only other three buttons on board.

When sound is being pumped out there are three green LED lights; these turn red when sound is muted. This makes the product look somewhat like a sort of miniature spaceship, so whether you like the overall look will clearly be a matter of taste. We would have preferred to see the single Bluetooth symbol to the centre button light up in different colours to represent different playback, but that's not the case.

Charge and go

What does make the Spaced360 shine are some of the "simpler" things. Take the circular charger, for example, which doesn't need to be fiddled around with to be plugged into the speaker. Simply slide the unit over the top of the charger base and it naturally nestles into place to charge. Simple.

An on-board battery means you don't have to be near a wall charger, which is ideal for around-the-home portability. It's something we've increasingly been using too: the Spaced360 has sat by our desk all day long and then been picked up and moved to the kitchen for when we cook dinner and fancy listening to some tunes.

Battery life per charge lasts for a long time too, as we've been using the speaker for full days at a time with no problems. Charging up takes around three hours, not that we've been counting, but the product can be used from within its charger base.

Although we wouldn't describe the Spaced360 as an outdoors product in the same way something like the UE Boom might cater for festival-goers, we would have no issues in using it out in the garden to add a bit of extra ambiance. It's a hardy bit of kit.

Surround sound

And so to the sound quality. Orbitsound seems to think stereo is dead. While we disagree with that, we do agree that it's nigh-on impossible to get worthwhile stereo sound from a single point device such as the Spaced360.

And so here is where Airsound comes in: the technology compresses stereo channels into mono, but then separates out frequencies over 200hz to output a pseudo-surround in the way the frequencies reach the ears.

It's a fancy way of saying that it's mono, really, but you get a steady stream of sound wherever you happen to stand in relation to the speaker. And from that perspective it works very well. Sound is loud, clear and omnipresent.

It also sounds good, which is obviously important. There's a clarity to the audio at all volumes, but crank it up a bit and this doesn't diminish. We've been putting the speaker through its paces and found that live instruments and voice soar very nicely indeed.

When it comes to kick drums and the like there's plenty of pop. These cutting sounds thump through the mix and assert all the required impact needed, while bass guitar riffs holds up on their own for a rounded overall sound.

Rumblin' radiators

The only sound limitation is the bassier end of the frequency scale. If you're into your dub then you'll catch a whiff of where sub bass should be, but not the real thing. That's down to scale, really.

Producers these days tend to sprinkle their bass parts with additional frequencies so they're audible on radio and various devices, but if you want big bass that moves you then, well, you're going to need more money. And much more space.

The three small bass radiators in the Spaced360 are enough to deliver the low-end of a dubstep track like Skream's Love Don't Come Easily, and house music is all good, but slide down the frequency scale towards the d&b spectrum of this world and there's no such luck.

As we say, it all comes down to scale. One larger component would be better at delivering the basslines, but then that wouldn't fit to the Spaced360 design. Something like the Libratone Loop costs £400 and doesn't fall into the portables category, but it a good example of how to achieve bass. It's a different kettle of fish though, but something to consider.

Overall we are impressed by the Spaced360's sound output because it's clean and rounded. When listening to the Daughter album we couldn't have asked for more clarity; Bjork's Biophilia maintained three-dimensional depth thanks to Airsound; while playing through the latest Reso EP on Hospital Records the drums sounded rocking. Just don't expect your dub to shake the room.

Verdict

Spaced360 is a different product prospect in the Bluetooth speaker category and it's the design that makes it stand out.

It's not the first system to tackle 360-degree sound projection, but there's no doubting it succeeds on this promise. We've spent the week tucking in to various musical genres and the Spaced360 has delivered for the majority. It's just the lowest frequencies that lack, but that's a given at this scale.

Yes it's a lot of money, but with its distinctive looks, rounded sound, decent quality build, easy-to-charge power socket and solid battery life there's a lot to like here.

Purchase here.

News : Lesley Gore Dead At 68

News : Lesley Gore Dead At 68

Pioneering pop singer-songwriter Lesley Gore has died. According to the Associated Press, Gore died of cancer complications today at NYU Langone Medical Center. She was 68.

The Brooklyn-born, New Jersey-raised singer first rose to fame at the age of 16 with her best-known song, 1963's "It's My Party." She later released the Quincy Jones-produced proto-feminist anthem "You Don't Own Me" and "Judy's Turn to Cry."

Later in her career, Gore sang a coterie of other hits, including "She's A Fool," ''Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows," ''That's the Way Boys Are," and "Maybe I Know." She also co-wrote the Oscar-nominated "Out Here On My Own" from the movie Fame, as well as "My Secret Love" for Allison Anders' 1996 film Grace of My Heart. In 2004, Gore hosted the PBS series In the Life, which focused on LGBT issues before officially coming out in a 2005 interview.

During the 2012 presidential campaign, Gore morphed "You Don't Own Me" into an online PSA starring Lena Dunham, Tavi Gevinson, and more well-known women calling for reproductive rights.

About Studio Paris Nightclub
Since opening its doors, Studio Paris has redefined nightlife in Chicago. Blending the allure of an exclusive cocktail lounge with the vibrant energy of a premier nightclub, it’s become one of the most sought-out hot spots and event spaces. Boasting a state-of-the-art Funktion One sound system and an unrivaled audio-visual experience, Studio Paris has hosted some of the biggest names in electronic music: Tiesto. DeadMau5. Avicii. Kaskade. Calvin Harris. In a city where dance music has exploded in recent years, Wednesday nights at Studio Paris have quickly evolved into a showcase for emerging artists and a must for EDM fans throughout Chicago. In addition, the club attracts some of the most popular open-format deejays in the country, including artists like DJ Vice, DJ Spider, DJ Politik and DJ Five, as well as live performances by A-list artists like Jason Derulo, LMFAO, Rita Ora, Rev Run and CeeLo Green. On any given night a mix of celebrities, top athletes and influencers from the world of fashion and entertainment can be found partying beneath the room’s glass roof, making Studio Paris unlike any other venue in Chicago.

Studio Paris Review By Laura W.: Chicago, Illinois
"I love Studio Paris. Definitely my favorite club experience in Chicago. They get the big names like The Mid does (Lil Jon, Afrojack, DJ Snoopadelic) without the suburban kids home from college/"let's all be cool and take the metra downtown and have our parents pick us up" clientele that The Mid is pretty much known for.

Everything about Studio Paris is great. I love that you can buy tickets ahead of time and don't have to worry about cover. When you go to coat check, they write your coat number on your arm in invisible ink that could only be seen under a black light. I can't even tell you the amount of times I've lost my coat check ticket and had to stand there trying to point my jacket out to the annoyed attendant. The bartenders are all really nice and really good at their jobs. When I don't have to tell a bartender my name when I close out my tab at the end of the night, I'm impressed. The security guys are also polite and don't have any sort of better than thou attitude.

People tend to complain about the layout. I do think it's completely absurd to have bottle service behind the bar where you can't even see the DJ. And most of the bar is made up of bottle service tables. But this has never been a problem for me as a normal, non-VIP party-goer. This is because everyone I've encountered at Studio Paris have been genuinely good people. I've danced in so many different group's technical "table area" and no one ever cares. You can dance on the couches (which open up to store your belongings!) and you can get on top of the walls (all about waist high that separate table areas) and dance on those and no one cares. No one stops you like some other places...looking at you 8fifty8.

The music is always top notch. I've only ever been there for DJ Vice but anyone that can successfully remix GDFR by Flo Rida and the insanely annoying George Lopez Show theme song gets some serious props in my book.

Studio Paris is a classier nightclub experience but totally worth it."
