Cars : 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible

Like a trimmed down prize fighter, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible arrives early next year in the best shape of its existence. A fully automatic power top makes latches and manual exertion a thing of the past and can even be opened or closed while driving at lower speeds. Equally impressive is the inclusion of a hard tonneau cover that extends over the folded roof. The most powerful Camaro to date features a 6.2-liter, V8 engine that maxes out at 455 horsepower. And thanks to the same lighter structure its hardtop counterpart employs, it weighs in around 200 pounds leaner than the model it replaces.

Gadgets : Lexus Hoverboard

Gadgets : Lexus Hoverboard

We’ve waited since Back to the Future II for a working hoverboard, and while we still don’t have one, it seems as if it’s getting closer and closer to becoming a reality. First, there was Hendo Hover, which got us excited at the possibility, and now comes this video from Lexus. Yes, they claim to have a working hoverboard that uses liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors along with magnets to allow it to levitate while a person rides it. It also blends in a little bamboo to give it a more elegant look than the one Marty rode. Right now it’s just a little teaser clip, and we double-checked and it isn’t April 1, so we’ll anxiously wait for more info and keep you posted.

News : SCOTUS Rules In Favor Of Marriage Equality, Internet Explodes

News : SCOTUS Rules In Favor Of Marriage Equality, Internet Explodes

America took a historic step forward today when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality. Besides securing equal rights for about three million people, the ruling set Twitter on fire—and in a happy twist, most of the response from musicians was positive and supportive.

A number of musicians weighed in to show love for SCOTUS (shoutout RBG), from mega-stars like Sam Smith and Questlove to independent musicians like Jazz Cartier, and of course Lil B.

Just... check your twitter. Or make one and then search up some people. You're witnessing history.

Videos : Pia Mia : Do It Again ft. Chris Brown, Tyga

Videos : Pia Mia : Do It Again ft. Chris Brown, Tyga

Pia Mia’s collaboration with Chris Brown and Tyga, “Do It Again,” is so undeniably catchy that it shouldn’t need a boost from music video streams to top the charts — but if that’s what it takes, so be it.

The video is just as much fun as the song itself, with Pia hair-flipping her way around the beach, in a Jeep, at a party. Tyga and Chris Brown are also in the video, but we’d be lying if we said we spent any real attention watching them (despite Brown’s very loud canary-yellow onesie), unless Pia was out of frame.

Can you blame us, though? At one point, Pia performs an entire dance routine in the sand, and for anyone who’s ever attempted to do anything even vaguely athletic on the beach, you should have some idea of just how difficult that is. It’s hard enough carrying a cooler full of cheap tequila from the parking lot to the sand, let alone doing anything that requires serious physical exertion, and Pia does it without breaking a sweat.

The Guam native’s come a long way since her cover of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” first went viral. She released an EP called The Gift in 2013, and eventually landed the “Do It Again” collaboration with Chris Brown and Tyga. Now we’re just waiting for a full-length album and we’ll be all set. Check out the music video for “Do It Again” above.

Bars + Lounges : USA : LA : New Orleans : Cure

Bars + Lounges : USA : LA : New Orleans : Cure

About Cure
Traditionally cocktail bars have been bastions of civility and sophistication. Different from saloons where the point was to become inebriated rapidly and economically, the cocktail bar was a place where ladies and gentlemen went to socialize in a productive and cultured way. Inspired by the historical period when cocktails grew out of medicine and home remedies, our idea at Cure is to reintroduce our guests to another time where the experience of having a cocktail and a bite to eat was both healthful and enjoyable.

Cure Review By Shelley V. : North Hollywood, CA
"I love love Cure. Expertly crafted cocktails by artisan bartenders in a welcoming setting. This visit we tried some of the delicious crostini while imbibing and were not disappointed.

For cocktails, I had the Amor Fati and the Mister had the Ghost Dance and the Whiskey Sinister. I kept to one as I had to drive us back to da quarter.

I fell head over heels for the Amor Fati - a whiskey based drink that went down smoother than a newborn baby's behind.

The only thing that would improve Cure would be a monorail or a free car service between Freret and the French Quarter !!!

Do yourself a favor and go there during your trip to Nola. You'll be glad y'all did."

Gadgets : Model 01 Typist's Keyboard

Gadgets : Model 01 Typist's Keyboard

I know the Model 01 is a "typist's keyboard" because some enthusiastic whippersnapper used it to type an F'in fat wad of text explaining the sculpted hardwood butterfly's design elements and functionality on maker Keyboardio's Kickstarter project page. In 30 words or less, I'll try to paraphrase: Model 01 is a masterpiece of 2 blocks of solid maple, tactile mechanical keyswitches, and custom-sculpted keycaps. Typing on it, according to Keyboardio, should feel like "a dream."

Or if you prefer pictures to words...then why they h-e-sculpted-and-tactilely-intuitive-double-L are you reading about a keyboard?

The Model 01 represents a culmination of 2-1/2 years of learning and testing the perfect keyboard. Keyboardio chose a precision-milled maple base simply because it felt good to rest their hands on, and they split the 01 in two to guarantee a custom fit to every user's hands and desk. The halves are joined by default with a bar at the center. Users can choose to use a flat or tented bar to vary its elevation, or split the halves entirely, positioning them at shoulder-width apart on your desk if you are as ripped, jacked, and hulking through the upper body as I am.

Model 01's key layout is based on QWERTY, but the keys are aligned in columns Keyboardio feels correspond better to human hand anatomy, intended for easy reaching without finger contortions. The angled halves of the keyboard keep typing wrists in a neutral position to preclude fatigue and strain. For those who prefer a different keycap layout, Keyboardio will be making additional sets in various styles (e.g., Dvorak, Colemak, Workman, and a variant of the Malt layout) after their crowdfunding campaign ends.

Additional Model 01 features include recruiting the thumbs for more typing tasks than "just whacking a big spacebar" and incorporating a palm key. Similar to a Function key or special type of Shift key, when typists drop the base of their thumb onto the palm key, it will turn the H, J, K, and L keys into arrow keys, and the number keys into F-keys. The Model 01 also has an "Any" key. No one really knows what it's "supposed" to do, but since the keyboard includes a source code and screwdriver, maybe you can figure it out.

Oh, and it glows. Each Model 01 key includes an independently programmable RGB LED underneath it. It can breathe, glow, and do basic animations out of the box, or the more artistic gamers and word nerds out there can teach it to Beetlejuice out a dance to your favorite Harry Belafonte song.

The Model 01 typist's keyboard seeks funding on Kickstarter through July 15, 2015.

Gear : Watches : Tempus Machina Submariner Reference 216A

The vintage watch market has become its very own phenomenon in the last decade. As much as Nike leads by far the sneaker reselling market, no watch company is as strong in the second hand market as Rolex. The Rolex Submariner specifically, has become an icon over the last few decades, ever since Sean Connery was wearing the timeless design as James Bond in Dr. No. Since then the Rolex Submariner has come a long way and while many of today’s innovations are fantastic additions to the functionality of the watch, there are still many out there that miss some of the beautiful details that the original big crown Rolex Submariner used to have.

Tempus Machina presents the perfect fusion of vintage and modern with its custom Submariner Reference 216A. The brand new Rolex Submariner by Tempus Machina comes now with some of the beautiful details of the original, including the red triangle insert on the bezel, lugholes on the straps, coin-edge bezel details, and of course it also comes with a custom-made sapphire crystal that embodies the taller dome structure of the plexi Superdomes in the past. Last but not least, it of course also features the big crown.

Of course all these details and craftsmanship comes with a price. The Tempus Machina Ref. 216A Submariner goes for $25,000 and can be ordered from the brand’s website.

News : Killer Mike On The Confederate Flag

News : Killer Mike On The Confederate Flag

Killer Mike has spoken out about the Confederate flag, which has been the subject of intense debate over the last week. Following the shootings in Charleston, South Carolina, several states that fly the Confederate flag in some official capacity have pledged to either take it down, or open a legislative discussion about doing so.

In a new piece on The Fader, Killer Mike said he doesn't begrudge any individual who wears the flag, but that it should be removed from government property. "That side lost, and you do not fly the flags of losers over the winners' country," he said. "It's just that simple. There's no way around that."

He continued:

If your great great grandfather participated on the Confederate side and you hold some sentimental value to that, and you want to fly the flag and hang their picture up in your home, that's fine. But it should not be on anything that taxpayers pay for, because taxpayers are a part of the Union not the Confederacy. It has no place in the building, no place on the building, no place around the building.

He talked about growing up in the South, where the flag is commonplace:

Many of my neighbors have them. As a Southerner, I understand how it represents our heritage and lives lost in that war. I'll give you that at the negotiation table. But my firm stance is that any group of traitors, anyone who tried to break up this country, deserves no honor once they've lost. Did the people who lost that war profit from slavery? Yes! Has that symbol been used by stupid, dumb redneck racists? Yes. Has it been used by neo-Nazis? Yes. Has it been used as a way to intimidate black people? Yes, absolutely. As a child, the Confederate flag was explained to me as a flag of racism, that there are often men who will use that flag to try to terrorize black people.

Mike also stressed that his objections to the flag don't have to do with his feelings:

My primary objection to it is firmly grounded in a political argument, not an emotional one. It's less to do about me—"Hey, I'm black and it hurts my feelings, it's a symbol of slavery and oppression"—and more to do with the fact that, as an American, I will not honor a group of treacherous traitors. That's why I despise the rebel flag. Long live the South, and quickly die the Confederacy.

We're only two weeks removed from Travi$ Scott dropping the first single off his upcoming debut album, and now we get blessed with more heat from La Flame as he releases "Antidote."

Travi$ shared a preview of the record over the weekend in Dallas, when it also was rumored that PARTYNEXTDOOR was involved with "Antidote" in some way. Travi$ cleared that up tonight by clarifying he went dolo on the record:

At least on the vocal side. The moody production comes courtesy of Eestbound and Wondagurl. Travi$ spends the first two-thirds of the track delivering a wavy Auto-Tune performance before hitting the listener with a third verse that includes a reference to the infamous incident that took place during his Summer Jam 2015 performance. "Kickin' the cameraman off of my stages/'Cause I don't like how he snappin' my angles."

Cars : Rezvani Beast

Cars : Rezvani Beast

The Rezvani Beast is part supercar, part life coach. On the one hand, it’s a 500-horsepower supercharged track demon, and on the other, it’s a potent motivator urging you to shed the restrictive norms of modern society and let loose. For proof, take a listen to the car’s new promo video.

“A beast grows inside us all, waiting to be unleashed,” says a raspy voiced man. “Raw power. Predatory instincts. Absolute freedom. Being in compete control. Take advantage of that road that never saw you coming. It is time. You can hear its growl. Unleash your inner beast.”

The vehicle has just been unveiled in production guise, which means for $165,000, customers can attempt to tame the Beast in all its open-top and full-throated glory.

Despite its primal appeal, the Beast is actually more refined than you might think. Don’t expect the car to boast Bentley-esque ride quality or interior refinement, but the bespoke two-seater features Apple CarPlay connectivity on its dash-mounted touchscreen. According to Rezvani, that’s a first for the segment.

But let’s be honest — this car is all about performance, adrenaline rushes, and making a statement. One look at its gorgeously sharp body and you’ll know that statement is a powerful one.

In order to get a handle on the Beast’s true capabilities, we must start at the beginning. The car features an upgraded version of the carbon steel chassis from the maniacal Ariel Atom 3, and from there, Rezvani bolted up a lightweight body, which gives the supercar a curb weight of just 1,650 pounds. That’s a pretty good start.

To move that weight, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder sourced from Honda racing enlists a supercharger and a turbocharger to produce a whopping 500 hp, which is channeled through either a six-speed manual or sequential automatic. Add in a bit of physics and you have a performance car capable of 0 to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 165 mph. Better yet, you can drive this thing on the road, but we’d suggest going for the optional windscreen if you do.

“We really wanted to get people to enjoy driving again,” said brand CEO Ferris Rezvani. “By limiting as much electronic interference as we could, we were able to allow the driver to feel every inch of the road at their fingertips.”

That track-focused philosophy has migrated into the interior as well, evidenced by carbon fiber seats, lightweight trimmings, and a flat-bottom steering wheel that weighs less than 10.5 ounces. The cabin is not as striking as the exterior, but when you’re screaming down the track at 165 mph (the engine makes noise too), we don’t think you’ll care.

The Rezvani Beast is available to order now, with the construction process taking 8-12 weeks.

News : Scott Storch Files For Bankruptcy

News : Scott Storch Files For Bankruptcy

We all know the story about Scott Storch picking up a cocaine habit in 2006 and filing for bankruptcy 3 years later. Being one of the most renowned music producers in 2002-2006 with a fortune of more than $70 million, he “took a month off” 9 years ago which turned out to be his biggest mistake ever. Partying the rest of the year away in his $10 million Miami mansion and spending over $30 million on drugs, almost 20 cars, private jet, 117-foot yacht and other incredibly expensive goods in less than six months, Storch lost his music inspiration and ended up in rehab in April 2009 without a dime in his pocket.

Earlier this week, the producer filed for bankruptcy again, claiming he has only $3,600 of assets to his name – $100 in cash, $500 in clothing and a watch worth $3,000. The most shocking part is his music companies are valued at $0, according to TMZ. Also, Storch points out he made only $10,000 last year.

Let that be a lesson for his industry peers. Cocaine is a hell of a drug, indeed.

Videos : Tinashe : Cold Sweat

Though Tinashe’s currently hard at work on her sophomore album — enlisting big names like Dr. Luke and Diplo for the effort — she’s also still pumping life into her stellar 2014 debut, Aquarius. Today she’s back with the “Cold Sweat” music video, a wildly exciting series of quick cuts that spotlight the star as she writhes and twitches with nuanced choreography. It’s a master class in simplicity and honesty, on the other end of the spectrum from her stunning “All Hands on Deck” treatment but altogether as powerful and impactful.

Honestly, has anyone else invested the time and effort and careful narrative pacing into an album’s music videos the way Tinashe has? We’re lucky to have her.

Gadgets : Torque t402v Customizable Headphones

Gadgets : Torque t402v Customizable Headphones

Torque Audio is truly setting the stage for the future of headphones, delivering a delicious package of sound and design. Nothing exemplifies that more than the introduction of the t402v headphones, expertly crafted to challenge high-end consumer audio brands like Bowers & Wilkins and even B&O.

The t402v is a one-of-a-kind headphone that includes both interchangeable on-ear and over-ear pads. The pads easily snap on and off the headset. If you’re in the mood for some higher frequencies, just rotate the ear pad to the desired bass level and you will instantly hear a difference. Rotate it again, and you’ll experience something entirely different. The ear pads are comfy and fit snugly on your ears, whether it is the on-ear or over-ear version. We will admit that the spring steel reinforced headband on the t402v is a bit top heavy, but even so, they look so impressive that heaviness is easily forgiven. The headphones are also not foldable but because the ear cups articulate, they will lay flat.

The t402v headphones sound absolutely amazing and it truly comes down to the quality audio you plan on listening to. If you are just going to stream low bit rate audio files, then save your money because these headphones are reserved for fine audio connoisseurs. The t402v outputs a crisp, clean sound and its flexibility allows audio junkies to swap ear pads for any particular mood. One day you can be balanced, another day – a headbanger.

The t402v headphones have a great sound that really brings to life anything you listen to, but especially classic rock. I thought that Mick Jagger was sitting in the room with me at times! If you are more of a fan of over-ear type of headphones, just snap those ear pads on and the soundstage instantly becomes wider versus the narrow soundstage of the on-ear pads.

More details here.

News : Jon Stewart Drops The Comedy And Speaks On Charleston

News : Jon Stewart Drops The Comedy And Speaks On Charleston

Jon Stewart opened Thursday night's (June 18) Daily Show with a confession: "I didn’t do my job today.”

Following the shooting Wednesday night that left nine people dead, Stewart declared he simply didn't have any jokes, "nothing other than just sadness" over what happened in Charleston.

"Maybe if I wasn't nearing the end of the run or this wasn't such a common occurrence, maybe I could have pulled out of the spiral," he continued. "But I didn't. And so I honestly have nothing other than just sadness once again that we have to peer into the abyss of the depraved violence we do to each other and the nexus of a gaping racial wound that will not heal yet we pretend doesn't exist.

"I'm confident that by acknowledging it, by staring into that...we still won't do jackshit. Yeah. That's us. ...what blows my mind is the disparity of response between when we think people that are foreign are going to kill us and us killing ourselves."

"I heard someone on the news say, ‘Tragedy has visited this church.’ This wasn’t a tornado. This was racist,” Stewart said. “I hate to even use this pun, but this one is black and white. There’s no nuance here. But we’re going to keep pretending… We are steeped in that culture in this country and we refuse to recognize it.”

Bars + Lounges : USA : IL : Chicago : Roof On The Wit

Roof On The Wit
Cool off atop the Loop’s best summertime lounge destination. Grab a cool drink and set your gaze upon the sun-drenched views of the City. But don’t get too lost in the scenery—you’re surrounded by the diverse, lively crowd only a Chicago summer can draw.

Roof On The Wit Review By Hollina U.: Chicago, IL
"After watching Lakers games, and experiencing concerts at Hyde Lounge, it was time to take in a Kings playoff game from Suite Level C.

I was scouting out places for a work event and contacted the Wit, since I had heard so many good things about ROOF on the Wit. I received a prompt reply, and was invited to Taste of the Wit, which happens every other Tuesday. We were first taken to State and Lake, where we sampled some appetizers (the pretzels there are amazing!!), including some cheese, prosciutto, and deviled eggs (which is supposed to be really good, but I thought was just alright). They carry Cloudy Bay sauvignon blanc, which is my favorite sauvignon blanc from New Zealand. I had the Hummingbird, which has blackberry preserves-- delicious.

We were then taken up to ROOF, where we tried the duck fat fries (still a bit soggy), the sushi (which was pretty darn good!), and some pizza. I actually had a chance to try the Pizza Tetto- pizza with pine nuts, mushroom and sausage-- a pretty interesting combo. I just love anything with pine nuts. For cocktails, I tried the skinny model diet-- not my favorite drink.

I really like the Lounge/Living Room area--- there's AMAZING views from all around. Also, there are some super soft fuzzy black chairs-- and I love the decor-- houndstooth furniture mixed in with some black couches.I love mixed and matched furniture. But once I walked into the Atrium, I was even more blown away. It was so light and airy, and felt so relaxing. There was even live music on Tuesday night--- a guy playing the guitar who was REALLY good. I could have hung out there for hours, just sipping on cocktails, snacking on sushi, and listening to the singer.

Then we were taken to a private theater room, where we were served desserts from the Phoenix Room. My colleague was raving about the key lime dessert... there were also macarons, but I would pass on those-- they were a bit dry.

Overall, I really just like how they had exceptional customer service--- but then again, what else would you expect from an event such as that?

"I have searched all night and day for new and better words that could express my feelings and fear for the people of this country. I found no new words. I only have no hope-filled insight to deliver. I only have this warning to all Americans: Whatever this country is willing to do to the least of us, it will one day do to us all."

Gear : Shoes : Chuck Taylor All-Star "Made By You," By Converse

Gear : Shoes : Chuck Taylor All-Star "Made By You," By Converse

Converse is celebrating its signature Chuck Taylor All Star line in a new push that showcases consumers who make their own mark on the sneaker -its biggest campaign to date. The campaign kicks off today with more than 200 portraits of worn and customized Chucks from around the world, including some from notable fans like singer Patti Smith and artist Andy Warhol.

“The time was right for Converse to celebrate the consumers who have helped make the brand what it is today,” said Ian Stewart, VP of global marketing at Converse. “When the Chuck turns 100, the celebration will be about an iconic sneaker brand, while the ‘Made By You’ campaign is about the celebration of fans of Chuck and their creative self-expression rather than just the sneaker.”

Called “Made By You,” the push features the 98-year-old Chuck line, which is the foundation of the Nike-owned Converse brand.

“This is just a general celebration of people who love to wear their Chuck Taylors,” continued Ian Stewart. “This campaign speaks to us wanting to celebrate self-expression around the world.”

The concept -led by Anomaly, Converse’s lead global creative shop- was inspired by the thousands of photos that are shared by Converse fans on a daily basis, many of which highlight how fans customize their sneakers. “This is how we got to the idea that Chucks are a work of art,” he added. “We’re really lucky with Chucks that it’s a product that people love when they’re worn in.”

News : Miley Cyrus Honored By amfAR

News : Miley Cyrus Honored By amfAR

Miley Cyrus donated her Caitlyn Jenner artwork to support the amfAR Inspiration Gala last night.

The 22-year-old had sparked rumours she was collaborating with the reality TV star when she posted images of glitter-coated versions of Caitlyn's famous Vanity Fair cover on Instagram.

Now all has become clear, as her creative project was in support of the annual event, which benefits AIDS research. The pieces, signed by Caitlyn, were auctioned at the event and fetched an amazing $69,000.

It was a big night for the singer-and-actress, as she was honoured with the Inspiration Award. Miley is a keen supporter of the LGBT community and launched the #InstaPride project just yesterday, an initiative that tells the stories of transgender people. 'I just want to tell my parents, I hope that this makes them proud,' she touchingly said during her acceptance speech at Spring Studios in New York.

Tyler Ford from The Glee Project presented her with the prize and was also Miley's date for the night. Prior to the event, Miley introduced agender Tyler on Instagram.

"Meet Tyler (@tywrent), a 24 year old living in New York City, and my date for @amfar tonight!!! Tyler is a queer, biracial, agender person, whose pronouns are they/them/theirs. Tyler shares about their identity, experiences and hopes saying: 'My whole life, I was led to believe that there were only two genders. I thought I had to shrink myself to fit into a box that was never going to contain me. It took years for me to find words for my gender identity, and to feel comfortable expressing myself as I am.' (sic)," she wrote.

Miley wore a custom Moschino gown to the gala, which was bright red and sported a large heart print and trail.

Interviews : Taraji P. Henson Talks Empire And Social Justice

Interviews : Taraji P. Henson Talks Empire And Social Justice

Taraji P. Henson is on a mission: To take her brand global following the success of Fox's hit show Empire - and her breakout character Cookie Lyon.

"I am tired of Hollywood telling me what black people can't do overseas and what can't sell overseas, and black women can't do this overseas," Henson says. "Well, I am over there and they know who I am; and they knew me before Cookie."

Empire debuted in January with 9.9 million viewers and ended its first season run with 17.6 million viewers for the finale, the most watched show that week, according to the Nielsen ratings.

With Emmy nominations set for July 16, the 44-year-old actress, who served as the ambassador for the American Black Film Festival that just completed its four-day run in New York, says she isn't focused on awards.

"That's not my driving force. I respect the awards and I am always honored when I am recognized, but that's not really why I got into the business," Henson says. "Art is very powerful. It can touch and change lives, and that's what I am about with my talent."

Henson recently talked with The Associated Press about Empire and the Texas law enforcement officer who threw an unarmed teenage girl to the ground.

Associated Press: What's the formula for the success of Empire and how the show's viewership continued to grow throughout the season?
Henson: Networks started underestimating the audience. They started believing that appointment television was dead. But we proved that if you give the audience good content they will watch, and I think that is what you are seeing. There's no special formula. There is no magic trick that we did. We just got an incredible cast, incredible writers; we deal with very diverse subject matter, subject matter that makes you think, that makes you ruffle feathers.

How important is it to address delicate subjects, such as homosexuality in the African-American community?
Well it's very important to talk about any subject matter that deals with people not being afraid of being who they are. When we are born we do not get the luxury of saying, `God I want white skin,' or `I want to be straight,' or `I want to be a woman,' you just get what you get, and your journey in life and how you decide to walk through that journey is what life is about and how you're going to move and affect people through your story.

What can we expect for next season?
They are going to deal with a lot of the past, and this is something that I requested. What happened with Cookie in the 17 years she was locked away from her family? How did Lucious become - some people want to call him this monster - but people are the way they are because of their circumstances and so we just want to delve a little bit more into how these people became who they are.

How do you feel about the recent situation in McKinney, Texas, regarding the white police officer who drew his gun on unarmed African-American teens and threw a 15-year-old girl to the ground?
I think it is time for people to stop being quiet about what's going on and stop turning a blind eye to it. People of all color, if you see an injustice happening, say something. They always say it is not important until it affects you, but I do not know what parent in the world watched that video, I do not care what color you are, and did not feel some kind of way. Take race out of it. That's a girl, that's a young woman in a bikini and that man slammed her down; like she was no threat, what was she doing? It's a big issue; we've got to deal with this. I do not know if we are becoming a police state. It's really scary.

Cars : 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

Cars : 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

Fiat’s Alfa Romeo division will introduce the 2015 4C Spider at the Detroit Motor Show, proving once and for all that it is serious about returning to North America after a long hiatus.

Previewed by a thinly-veiled concept that bowed last year in Geneva, the 4C Spider is essentially identical to the existing 4C Coupe but it gains more conventional-looking headlights, a carbon fiber windshield frame and a removable hard top that is also crafted out of carbon fiber. Alfa has previously confirmed that the Spider’s headlights will be available on the coupe as a no-cost option.

Inside, the 4C Spider boasts a race-inspired cockpit with a two-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, a driver-oriented center console and a digital instrument cluster. Bare carbon fiber adds a finishing touch to the track-ready look while hinting at the Spider’s ultra-lightweight construction.

Alfa Romeo has not made any mechanical changes to the 4C Spider, meaning that power comes from a mid-mounted 1.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 237 horsepower at 6,000 rpms and 258 foot-pounds of torque between 2,200 and 4,250 rpms. Linked to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission controlled by shift paddles, the turbo four sends the 2,487-pound Spider from zero to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 160 mph.

Alfa has partially offset the weight added by the convertible conversion by making the windshield and the side windows out of 10-percent thinner glass. Like the coupe, the 4C Spider is so light that it does not come with power steering.

Those looking to take their 4C racing can order the optional Track Package which adds larger sway bars on both ends, high-performance shock absorbers and additional carbon fiber trim inside out. The list of standalone options includes an Akrapovic exhaust system and Pirelli P Zero tires.

After greeting the show-going public in Detroit, the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C will begin to arrive in dealerships next summer.

Pearls : Nicki Minaj

"The only person That I'm Trying to be better than is the person that I was yesterday." - Nicki Minaj

Who Is Nicki Minaj?
Onika Tanya Maraj (born December 8), known by her stage name Nicki Minaj (pron.: /mɪˈnɑːʒ/), is a Trinidadian-born American rapper, singer-songwriter, voice actress and television personality. She was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago. When she was five years old, she moved to the New York City borough of Queens. Minaj trained as an actress before she released three mixtapes between 2007 and 2009 and signed to Young Money Entertainment.

Minaj's debut studio album, Pink Friday (2010), peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) a month after its release. She became the first female solo artist to have seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. Her seventh single, "Super Bass" has been certified quadruple-platinum by the RIAA, and has sold more than four million copies, becoming one of the best-selling singles in the United States. Minaj's second album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (2012), topped charts internationally, also spawning the top 10 singles "Starships" and "Pound the Alarm". The album became one of the best-selling albums of 2012, according to the Nielsen SoundScan, selling one million copies worldwide, as well as "Starships" becoming one of the best-selling singles of that year. Later in the year, she embarked on two worldwide tours, the Pink Friday Tour and the Pink Friday: Reloaded Tour, and reissued the album as Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up. Minaj has tentatively announced plans for a third studio album to be released in 2013.

Minaj's artistry features fast-paced rapping, alter egos and accents, notably British cockney. Her outlandish and colorful costumes, wigs and clothing have given her recognition as a fashion icon. She featured as a voice actress in Ice Age 4: Continental Drift, is currently serving as a judge on American Idol and has endorsed Adidas, MAC Cosmetics, and Pepsi. Minaj's work has earned her six BET Awards, four American Music Awards, two MTV Music Awards, an EMA and Billboard's 2011 Rising Star. She is the first female artist included on MTV's Annual Hottest MC List, with The New York Times suggesting that some consider her "the most influential female rapper of all time." The Source named Minaj the Woman Of The Year for 2012.

Onika Tanya Maraj was born December 8, 1982 in Saint James, a suburb of Trinidad and Tobago's capital city Port of Spain. to parents Carol and Robert Maraj, an accounting clerk/gospel singer and an employee at American Express, respectively. Her parents are of mixed Indian and Afro-Trinidadian ancestry and she lived in Saint James with her grandmother. Minaj is the middle sister to brothers Makiya and Jelani, as mentioned in her song "I'm the Best" on her debut album, Pink Friday. Her mother would occasionally visit, and one day, when Minaj was five, her mother picked her up to move to the Queens borough of New York City. According to Minaj, her father drank heavily, took drugs, and once tried to kill her mother by setting the house on fire.

Minaj attended Elizabeth Blackwell Middle School 210, where she played the clarinet. She then graduated from LaGuardia High School, which specializes in music and the visual and performing arts. Minaj participated in the drama program and initially planned to sing at LaGuardia, but lost her voice on the day of the audition. Minaj had a passion to become an actress, but failed at attempts to pursue her career due to the lack of roles she received. In 2001, she was cast in the Off-Broadway play, "In Case You Forget". After her acting career failed to take off, Minaj worked at Red Lobster in the Bronx at the age of 19 as a waitress and purchased her first vehicle, a BMW. Minaj was fired from Red Lobster because of her discourteousness to customers. She stated she had been fired from "at least fifteen jobs" for similar antics. Other jobs Minaj held were administrative assistant, customer service and an office manager position at an unknown business located on Wall Street.

Minaj briefly signed with Brooklyn group Full Force, in which Minaj rapped in a foursome group called "Hoodstars," which consisted of group members Lou$tar (son of "Bowlegged Lou"), Scaff Beezy (Minaj's current hype man) , and 7even Up. In 2004 the group recorded the entrance song for WWE wrestler Victoria titled "Don't Mess With," it was featured on the compilation album ThemeAddict: WWE The Music, Vol.6. Minaj left the group, unsatisfied with their lack of success. During this time, Minaj uploaded a few songs on her Myspace profile and sent a few of her songs to people in the music industry she was managed by Debra Antney. Fendi, CEO of the Brooklyn label Dirty Money Entertainment, who also found rapper Gravy, discovered the music and contacted Minaj, signing her to his label. Initially, Minaj adopted the pseudonym "Nicki Maraj", later changing to "Nicki Minaj", stating "My real name is Maraj. Fendi flipped it when he met me because I had such a nasty flow! I eat bitches!" Under Fendi's label, Minaj appeared on the popular street DVD "The Come Up Volume 11" that featured underground rappers from New York.

Minaj released her first mixtape Playtime Is Over in 2007 with Dirty Money Records. Her second mixtape, Sucka Free, was released on July 7, 2008 under the label Be. She won the Female Artist of the Year award at the 2008 Underground Music Awards shortly after. On April 18, 2009, Minaj released her third mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty under the label of Trapaholics Records; it received positive coverage on both BET and MTV. She also appeared in XXL magazine during this time.

In August 2009, Minaj signed a record deal with Young Money Entertainment, with distribution from Universal Motown Records, after fellow American rapper Lil Wayne discovered her on The Come Up DVD. Minaj generated significant attention when she first appeared on Yo Gotti's 5 Star Chick video, which gave her mainstream success with the urban community. At the request of Jay-Z, Minaj was asked to feature on Robin Thicke's single Shakin' It 4 Daddy. Following the guest appearance, Minaj was given a solo rap verse in the single "BedRock". The record garnered huge commercial success, reaching number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also appeared on "Roger That," which charted at number 56. The song, particularly Minaj, received positive reviews from critics. In December 2009, both songs were included in Young Money Entertainment's debut collaborative studio album We Are Young Money. The album charted in the top ten on the Billboard 200, reaching number 9 and later receiving a Gold Certification by the RIAA. Minaj was featured on Mariah Carey's "Up Out My Face" and its music video. The collaboration was well received by critics.

After a major record label bidding war, Young Money Entertainment announced on August 31, 2009 that Minaj had been released from a 360 deal with the label in which she retains and owns all of her 360 rights, including merchandising, sponsorships, endorsements, touring and publishing. Minaj was featured on Rihanna's "Raining Men" from her album Loud, which would lead to a second collaboration on Minaj's "Fly" from her album Pink Friday. Hip-hop rap artist and producer Kanye West was also confirmed for the album. On August 3, 2010, Minaj revealed on an Ustream.tv channel that the album's name would be Pink Friday, a nod to Black Friday.

Pink Friday was released on November 19, 2010. A buzz single, "Massive Attack", was released in April. In August, Minaj released "Your Love" as the first official single from her debut album. The single peaked at 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, 7 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and topped the Rap Songs chart. Minaj became the first female artist to be included on MTV's Annual Hottest MC List and the first female artist to top the chart unaccompanied since 2002. In October 2010, Minaj became the first artist to have seven songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart simultaneously. She released a two singles in September 2010; one a joint single with The Black Eyed Peas front man, will.i.am titled, "Check It Out," and the other "Right Thru Me." The music videos for both were released in late October. "Moment 4 Life" was released as the fourth single on December 7, 2010, featuring Canadian rapper Drake, becoming a success on the Billboard Hot 100. The single peaked at number 5 on the Hot Rap Songs.

The album gained Platinum certification in the United States a month after the release. On January 29, 2011, Minaj appeared on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest, performing "Right Thru Me" and "Moment 4 Life". On February 9, 2011, Pink Friday reached number one on the Billboard 200 in its eleventh week on the chart. Minaj turned down an offer to become a judge on The X Factor, as rapped on her Roman Reloaded song, due to the salary for the gig. In June 2011, Minaj was an opening act along with Jessie and the Toy Boys and Nervo on Britney Spears' sixth concert tour, the Femme Fatale Tour, in support of her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale. She and singer Kesha were featured on the remix of Spears' track "Till the World Ends," which charted at number 3 in the US in April 2011.

"Super Bass" was released from Pink Friday in May 2011. The single charted within the top 10 in many countries including the United Kingdom, United States, Australia and Canada, and later was certified as quadruple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The song gained positive reviews from critics. Minaj went on to attribute the success of the single in part to Taylor Swift, saying in an interview with American radio station 102.7 KIIS FM, "Taylor Swift did her little interview about 'Super Bass' and  took off in the States with the people sort of knowing it...It’s just really uncanny how all that stuff happens...We didn’t plan it like that." Minaj voiced a character in the 3D animated film, Ice Age: Continental Drift, as Steffie, a woolly mammoth. Minaj is also featured on French DJ David Guetta's 2011 album, Nothing but the Beat, on the singles "Where Them Girls At" and "Turn Me On".

Minaj's second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, was announced in November 2011 through Twitter and was released on April 2, 2012, two months later than initially planned. The album features collaborations with producers Hit-Boy, Dr. Luke, Rico Beats, Kenoe, RedOne and Oak. Cash Money A&R Joshua Berkman told HitQuarters that Minaj was extremely particular about the beats and music she used saying: "She wouldn't just rap or sing on anything – I could give her a thousand tracks and she may only like one or two." Preceding the album's release, three promotional singles were released: Roman in Moscow (which didn't make the final cut of the album), "Stupid Hoe," and "Roman Reloaded." The album's first single, "Starships," was released on February 14. It peaked at a new best for Minaj of number 2 in the United Kingdom, and reached number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming her second top 10 success, after 2011's "Super Bass". The music video was released on April 26, 2012.

On February 12, 2012, Minaj debuted another electropop song, "Roman Holiday", at the 54th Grammy Awards, becoming the first solo female rapper to perform a song on the Grammy stage. The exorcism-themed performance drew a mixed response online. She was featured on "Give Me All Your Luvin'" (with M.I.A.) and "I Don't Give A," both songs (the first being the lead single) from Madonna's 2012 album MDNA. The trio performed the former during the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show in February. The album's second single, "Right by My Side," which features Chris Brown, was released on March 27, 2012. Following the album's release, it peaked at number 24 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. It also peaked in the lower regions of the UK singles chart, at position #101. The third single, an electro-hop song called "Beez in the Trap", which features 2 Chainz was released to U.S. Urban radio on April 24, 2012 and premiered on DJ Flex's radio show at Hot 97 on March 20, 2012. It peaked at number 24
on the US Billboard Rap Songs Chart. The video was premiered on April 6, 2012 on Minaj's VEVO account.

Minaj began her first worldwide tour, the Pink Friday Tour, on May 16, 2012. It was followed by the Pink Friday: Reloaded Tour, which began in October. Minaj cancelled her appearance at the 2012 V Festival in the United Kingdom and the final show of her Pink Friday Tour in Dublin due to the damage of her vocal chords. Minaj was scheduled to headline during Hot 97 Summer Jam in New Jersey on June 3, 2012 at MetLife Stadium, but pulled out of her performance the day of after one of the station's DJs (Peter Rosenberg) criticized "Starships" as not being "real hip-hop." Her mentor Lil Wayne heard the remark and pulled his Young Money labelmates from the show. Minaj was scheduled to bring out hip-hop artists Nas, Lauryn Hill, Cam'ron, Foxy Brown, among others. She spoke to Hot 97 with Funkmaster Flex, which ended the dispute with the radio station and DJ Peter Rosenberg.

Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded was re-released as Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up on November 19, 2012. The three-disc box set is packaged with the standard version of the original album, a disc with eight additional songs, and a DVD with behind-the-scenes footage. The first single from the re-release, "The Boys", with Cassie, was released on September 13, 2012. Its music video debuted on VEVO on October 18, 2012. "Va Va Voom" was released as the fifth single from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded on October 23, 2012. Its music video premiered on E! News on October 26. The second single from The Re-Up, "Freedom", was released on November 3, 2012. Its music video premiered on November 19.

Minaj revealed the bottle design for her fragrance, "Pink Friday," through Twitter. The bottle bears a pink wig, a gold-platted bust, and a chain that hangs from the neck, bearing her name, similar to the cover of her debut album, Pink Friday. On August 24, 2012, Minaj premiered the music video for "I Am Your Leader" through Vevo. She was featured on Lil Wayne's mixtape, Dedication 4, in September 2012. Minaj won the award for Best Female Video at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, and performed "Girl on Fire" with Alicia Keys and special guest gymnast Gabby Douglas. In August 2012, speculation emerged that Minaj would join the judging panel for the twelfth season of American Idol, though Minaj commented at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, "You know what? At this time, I have no comment on that one." On September 16, 2012, it was confirmed that Minaj would join the panel alongside Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Keith Urban, beginning immediately with the auditions starting the same day. Minaj and Carey have received much media attention for their on-set tension, with a video released of the two in the midst of a heated argument during auditions in Charlotte. The following day, in a statement to Barbara Walters of The View, Carey alleged that Minaj had threatened to "shoot her" during an argument that had occurred earlier that week, though Minaj and producer Nigel Lythgoe denied such claims.

Minaj starred in a three-part E! documentary special, titled Nicki Minaj: My Truth. It aired from November 4, 2012 until November 18, 2012. At the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards, Minaj was nominated for three awards: Best Hip-Hop, Best Female, and Best Look. Minaj won Best Hip-Hop, but lost to Taylor Swift in the other two categories. In November 2012, Minaj announced plans to launch her own record label, and has already signed singer-songwriter and producer Parker Ighile, rapper Brinx, and singer Keisha. The title "Pink Friday Records" was intended, but was scrapped because it was "Not fair 2 (sic) the dudes", Minaj revealed in a press release, clarifying that she would release the new name "very soon". In November 2012, Minaj announced plans to release her third studio album in 2013. She described its concept as "a continuation of the Re-Up with a lot more."

On December 4, 2012, MAC Cosmetics revealed that Minaj, who previously backed the campaign alongside Ricky Martin, would front the Viva Glam 2013 campaign, releasing a new shade of lipstick "Nicki 2" and matching lip-gloss. Minaj announced that her clothing line would be launched through retailer Kmart on January 9, 2013. (Read More)
