Videos : Zedd ft. Matthew Koma, Miriam Bryant : Find You (Lyric Video)

Well he’s done it again. I could honestly end this with just that. 25 year old Anton Zaslavski, ‘Zedd‘ has once again come out with what already seems to be the next big hit. After the success of “Clarity” this young producer had the attention of almost everyone, including the eyes and ears of the Grammy Academy landing him a nomination for Best Dance Recording Of The Year. If for some reason you’ve never heard the smash it is a perfect combination of flawless vocals by Foxes mixed with the ever so clear musical talent that Zedd possess. (If you haven’t checked out any of Zedds acoustic versions of his song I highly suggest looking into them).

His new release “Find You” falls nothing short of his previous bangers. “Find You” features vocals from the ever so talented Miriam Bryant (who also has done another colab with Zedd called “Push Play”) and the pitch perfect Matthew Koma (featured on Zedd’s “Spectrum”) whose voices sound as if they should have always sung together. Their harmonies mixed with the classic ‘Zedd’ sound makes an uplifting, positive song that we all love to hear. With lyrics like “Make them dance, just like you, cause you make me move.” It makes me want to run to the nearest dance floor and have a dance party to this song!

I can’t wait to see how the public responds to yet another great song by the always talented, and extremely humble Zedd, and I’m sure we’ll be hearing it on our radios soon. From over here at Daily Beat another Hats off to you sir for reminding us once again how beautifully you make music!

Listen To Ludacris ft. Wiz Khalifa, Jeremih & Cashmere Cat : Party Girls

What a massive collaboration.. Norwegian star producer Cashmere Cat was recruited to lay down the beat for hip-hop lyricists Ludacris, Wiz Khalifa and Jeremih to go in on the new single "Party Girls". The cat flipped the 90's classic "Barbie Girl" into a sensual R&B / Rap heater with Jeremih swooning throughout and Ludacris and Wiz Khalifa laying down some silky verses. This is only the start of seeing Cashmere Cat work on radio hits, as he has signed with radio hit producer / writer legend Benny Blanco just a few short months ago. You can abuse replaying this amazing track until we have details on a release. Enjoy!

Videos : Shakira ft. Rihanna : Can't Remember to Forget You

Videos : Shakira ft. Rihanna : Can't Remember to Forget You

It is here. Listen now to, and let you ears be blessed with, the first Shakira and Rihanna collaboration "Can't Remember To Forget You". The pop anthem is the official lead single from the Colombian singer's fourth English album, and eighth of her career so far. Many state this "major" pop duet was possible due to the fact Shak and RiRi are now sharing the same management team (Roc Nation).

LQ snippets of "Can't Remember To Forget You" leaked online over the weekend. Fortunately for Shakira, though, the full song didn't leak and she could follow with the scheduled official world premiere today (January 13) via VEVO and 102.7 KIIS-FM Los Angeles's "On Air With Ryan Seacreast".

"Can't Remember To Forger You" isn't a "cluber smasher", "party-ready", "EDM" song in principle (something many expected in a way), but a "pure pop" number. (DJs will certainly make "CRTFY" 'club-friendly' very soon, though). Is it amazing? An undoubtely future #1? I am personally loving "Can't Remember To Forget You" from the first listen. Whether the song could have been "better-planned", and more "grandiose sounding", this being a Shakira and Rihanna duet, it gives the song such "hype" (or an indescribable feeling) that makes you love it no matter what.

The production of "Can't Remember To Forger You" is a little bit reggae and pop-rock. Shakira sings first verse, first chorus, Rihanna comes in for the second verse, Shakira and Rihanna share the second chorus, and Shakira takes over the bridge and final chorus. It gives me the impression the two recorded their parts separately...

About Taperia Restaurant
Brooklyn Heights really needed a place like this. Montague Street gained a great new venue as Taperia Restaurant opened its doors on Monday, October 14th.

The neighborhood has been eagerly awaiting the opening of Taperia at 132 Montague Street, the former location of Brooklyn Heights Laundromat.

The new owners, Philip Henn and Nasser Ghorchian, have lovingly created an elegant and festive space with outdoor seating on the street, a full bar, dining room with open kitchen, and a backyard dining area that is unexpected and spectacular.

Chef Hector Diaz has created a menu that brings Spanish fare to a new level. Our first dining experience, on opening night, was incredibly pleasurable.

Starting with a unique list of specialty cocktails, the Coco Mojito was a great takeoff on the usual with the flavor of coconut blending with mint.

Then it was on to Tapas. The first two plates set the tone.

Tuna Tataki was sublime, with a hint of sea salt that brought out the flavor of fresh chunks of fish, Foie Gras with crispy potatoes was life changing. A must.

As for the main dishes, Melted Pork was a robust portion of a Spanish classic. Paella provided a generous serving, chock full of seafood, chorizo and chicken. As for sides, Fried Yucca was a light and delightful takeoff on the French fry.

Save room for dessert. The Flan, a rich and delicious version of the Spanish staple, can't be missed.

On top of all that, the spacious bar provides two large-screen TVs for sports season.

Taperia Restaurant Review By Sally M.: Flushing, NY
"I met with my friends after my photowalk in Brooklyn Bridge Park and decided to try Taperia.

It's a nice, comfy setting and the service was friendly and helpful. They were always checking in us to make sure everything was good.

We weren't in the mood for large, heavy meals and the tapas were a perfect size!! We all shared the dishes. From the appetizers: meatballs, hams, cheeses, breads, fig spread and mustard - to the tapas: steak, chicken, rice and beans. Everything was tasty!!

The sangria was very nice; not too sweet. As for the dessert... OMG!! Traditional Milk Flan, Chocolate Semi Freddo, and Key Lime Cheesecake Spring Rolls. We all shared and it was all gone!!

I was told that this place was fairly new, so go check Taperia out!! It a nice place for food that is just simply filling!! ;)"

Dancehall star Cham teams with reggae royalty Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley for his new single “Fighter.” Produced by famed reggae hitmaker, Dave Kelly of Mad House Records, the tune “is a telling political satire about the cycle of poverty, violence and corruption in Jamaica, most notably in its inner city communities.”

The visuals include scenes from Vineyard Town, New Kingston and Downtown Kingston.

News : Selena Gomez Praises 'Powerful and Really Cool' Lorde Despite Come & Get It Diss

News : Selena Gomez Praises 'Powerful and Really Cool' Lorde Despite Come & Get It Diss

Selena Gomez has proved herself to be the bigger person after heaping praise on Lorde for being “powerful” and “really cool” despite being dissed by the 'Royals' singer for being over-sexualised and singing racy lyrics.

The 'Come & Get It' star surprisingly singles out the New Zealand hitmaker for being one of the most promising acts in pop at the moment and acting as a good role model for young fans due to her unapologetic need to voice her opinions.

In an interview with Seventeen magazine, Selena admitted: “There is one artist that I think is very powerful. She doesn't really like me, but that's all right. Her name's Lorde and she's really cool. I mean, I do think her message is very powerful. She's very young but she's got a lot to say and that's great, so more power to her.”

Selena's comments may come as a huge surprise considering Lorde, 17, appeared to diss the former Disney star's hit single 'Come & Get It.'

“I love pop music on a sonic level. But I’m a feminist and the theme of her song [Come & Get It] is, ‘When you’re ready come and get it from me.’ I’m sick of women being portrayed this way," Lorde told J-14 magazine.

Over the last few months, Lorde has become close friends with Selena's BFF Taylor Swift with the pair hanging out together in Australia and even at the 2014 Grammys last weekend.

Meanwhile, Selena, 21, continued to share her thoughts on girl power and what it means to her in the Seventeen interview, saying: “I think girl power can mean so many different things, especially because we live in a time where it's so competitive with females - whether it's fashion or boys or friends and boys and boys and boys.

“It's really unfortunate. I feel like girl power is almost more powerful and more special than anything you're competing for.”

Listen To GEMS : Don't Cry (Seal Cover)

Last fall, Washington, D.C. duo GEMS issued their Medusa EP, a four-track collection of dream-pop soothers led by the glowing single “Sinking Stone”. The pair have carried their enchanting aesthetics into the new year, this time turning their attention towards a cover of Seal’s ’90s hit single, “Don’t Cry”.

While the arrangement itself is a fairly faithful one (plus, see GEMS’ nearly carbon-copy artwork), the new rendition comes off much lighter, as it does away with most of the heavy theatrics of the original. Even so, it retains its own sense of poignancy, thanks in part to Lindsay Pitt’s pillowy, affecting vocals, and the song’s newfound breathing room. Listen in above.

Clubs : USA: NJ : Atlantic City : Club Providence

About Club Providence
Providence has transported the coveted New York City club scene to The Quarter at Tropicana, changing the state of nightlife in Atlantic City. Well-known DJs in two elevated booths, crystal chandeliers, and the city’s hottest dancers create a dynamic vibe that goes all night long. Providence specializes in VIP parties, large and small, and is ideal for bachelor and bachelorette celebrations.

One of Providence’s outstanding bartenders was voted Best Bartender in Atlantic City, in the 2010 ACWeekly.com Reader’s Choice Nightlife Awards.

Club Providence Review By Joseph D.: Chelsea, Manhattan, NY
"I was pleasantly surprised about Providence. As stated in my other reviews, I go to alot of clubs (especially in Miami and NYC). So I am rarely impressed about a new club experience, especially in Atlantic City.

However, the DJs in Providence (Finesse and June) played some of the best Hip Hop / EDM mixes I have heard in a long time.

We went to Providence after starting at Boogie Nights. Providence was a great change from Boogie Nights. The people are Providence are young and want to get down.

Will definitely go to Providence again."

Videos : Smoke DZA ft. Curren$y & Wiz Khalifa : Legends In The Making (Ashtray Pt.2)

Smoke DZA moved into the new year with steady output, and this continues with a visual for "Legends In The Making (Ashtray Pt. 2)." With Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa alongside, the Harlem native presents a cinematic tale.

The plot revolves around the trio, who are under the watchful eye of the DEA. But each rapper proves to be Teflon Dons in their own right in their evasive maneuvers.

Meanwhile, DZA, Spitta, and Wiz occupy a couch while enjoying their favorite leafy green pastimes in hazy performance scenes. Armen Soudjian directed the treatment.

"Legends In The Making (Ashtray Pt. 2)" is available on iTunes. However, it's unclear if the song will appear on The Kush God's upcoming Dream.ZONE.Achieve project, due to release April 1. See how the story unfolds for Smoke DZA, Curren$y, and Wiz Khalifa above.

Albums : Warpaint : Warpaint

Albums : Warpaint : Warpaint

Listen To Warpaint : Warpaint

Who Is Warpaint?
A Los Angeles quartet dealing in sparse, atmospheric art rock, Warpaint originally consisted of sisters Jenny Lee Lindberg and Shannyn Sossamon (on bass and drums, respectively), as well as Emily Kokal and Theresa Wayman on vocal and guitar. Sossamon left due to conflicts with her acting schedule and was replaced by Stella Mozgawa. With a dedicated lineup, the band began to experiment with murky spaciousness and stripped-down arrangements, and gained the attention of former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante. In 2009, they self-released their debut EP, Exquisite Corpse (which was mixed by Frusciante). After a successful showing at CMJ, they signed with Rough Trade and set to work recording their full-length debut for the label. The Fool arrived in October 2010, featuring more fleshed-out songcraft and stronger performances. After taking a few years to follow up their debut and citing their desire to experiment more with sounds and really connect as a group, the band released the lead single "Love Is to Die," which was featured on a Calvin Klein advert in September 2013. Their eponymous sophomore album, which was produced by Flood and mixed by him and Nigel Godrich, followed in early 2014.

Warpaint Review
A name like Warpaint is a dare, a confrontation, a preparation for a battlefield ahead. But unlike suiting up for war, Los Angeles-based psych-crooners Warpaint’s battle is against the claim that nothing provocative is happening in contemporary rock music. Through the subtle swathes of psychedelia, dusky guitars, and masterful ambience, Warpaint — comprised of guitarist/vocalists Theresa Wayman and Emily Kokal, drummer Stella Mozgawa and bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg — are also challenging the normalized generalizations often thrust upon women in rock bands. After all, gender does not, in any way, equal genre.

Warpaint’s ascent has been monumental, partially through the tail end of the MySpace revolution. The band’s singles online caught the attention of none other than John Frusciante, who gleefully mixed the group’s first EP, Exquisite Corpse, in 2008. Then followed their revered first full-length on Rough Trade, 2010′s The Fool. The album was universally praised for its languid rhythms and subdued balladry, injected with a strident sense of lyricism that never lingers in self-doubt. Fittingly, the band’s lucid self-titled sophomore record — mixed by Flood and Nigel Godrich — is staunchly feminist, unyielding, and irreverent. “Careless, not hopeless,” the band croons on Warpaint‘s “Feeling Alright”. “You can’t tell me what to do.”

Warpaint surges with a bewitching sensuality that’s unique to the most seminal of classic electronic and 4AD dream pop records. Think the unsettling brilliance of Massive Attack’s Mezzanine, the opaque swoons surging through Cocteau Twins’ Heaven or Las Vegas. Trip-hop and shoegaze are genres often characterized by their dreaminess (or nightmarishness, if that’s what you’re into), though the latter is more nebulous. This sultry spirit is threaded thickly throughout the entirety of Warpaint, though it would be wrong to simply think of this record as solely dream pop, or psychedelic, or any kind of buzzy term used to describe music shrouded in a lysergic, slinky mysticism. Still, it’s tough not to be completely swept up in songs like the alluring “Biggy”.

But, unlike the brazen sexualization that our most revered pop stars exude (e.g., Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy Perry), Warpaint is unintentionally sultry, evoking that film noir come-hither stare instead of relying on brassy coquettishness to get its point across. There’s a hypnotic quality to songs like “Hi”, warbling and weird and wonderful, and a prime display of Mozgawa’s impeccable sense of capturing and releasing tension. The harmonized croons of Kokal, Wayman, and Lindberg are reminiscent of early ’90s R&B stylings, though without the oversinging.

Notably, the textures of this record are also embedded with something far more sinister than 2010′s The Fool. The meditative mantra of “Disco//very” are the words “She’ll eat you alive,” followed by alternating yowls and harmonizations that descend into eerie echoes. That’s not to say that this record is necessarily depraved in any way, but the dalliance of guitar lines and thick bass sweeping through “CC” could easily soundtrack that brief window of 4:00 a.m. clarity during an all-nighter. Clairvoyance is everywhere on Warpaint, but so is doubt. “I’m alive/ I’m not alive enough,” they sing on the sharpened single “Love Is To Die”. You can be self-assured but not always sure, and that’s human. At the core, Warpaint oozes mortality.

Even during the quieter moments of the record, such as the smoky, piano-laced “Go In”, Warpaint unearths new complexities for the potential future of jangle-and-fuzz rock music. Although it’s admittedly a patient listen, Warpaint plucks at a different petal each time through it in its entirety. It’s truly a triumph for a group of women whose colors are singular and run incredibly deep.

Videos : Poliça : I Need $

Minneapolis’ Poliça released a new music video yesterday containing “I Need $” and “So Leave,” the last two tracks on the band’s latest record, Shulamith.

With the release of the video, frontwoman Channy Leaneagh mentioned that their single “I Need $” contains lyrics that embody the purpose of Poliça’s album Shulamith: “Chasing and wasting for our own desires, we love what we need until the need grows tired.” The video represents those lyrics beautifully thanks to director Isaac Ravishankara, who developed the concept with Leaneagh. During “So Leave,” Leaneagh quits her job, leaving behind her uniform, a paper airplane and no explanation for her peers.

Shulamith is out now. Check out “I Need $/So Leave” in the player above.

Gadgets : LG G Flex

Gadgets : LG G Flex

Entranced by the LG G Flex and its curved frame? Well you can now claim one for your very own, if you’re an AT&T customer. The Big Blue carrier is now taking pre-orders for its version of the G Flex. And while AT&T hasn’t announced an official launch date for the device, its website says that pre-orders are slated to begin shipping on February 4. Pricing for AT&T’s LG G Flex is set at $299.99 with a two-year contract, $34.75 per month with AT&T Next 12, $26.73 per month with AT&T Next 18 or $649.99 without a commitment.

The LG G Flex that’s headed for AT&T’s shelves is similar to the international model that was introduced last year. That means it’s packing a 6-inch 720p OLED display, 2.2GHz quad-core processor, 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM and a 3500mAh battery. The back of the G Flex houses a 13-megapixel shooter complete with volume and power buttons like those found on the G2. Around on the front of the unit is a 2.1-megapixel shooter.

It’s not uncommon for Android to appear on hardware that’s more unusual than the typical full-touch slab, such as Samsung’s flip phones or this G Flex, but those types of devices rarely make their way onto U.S. shores. LG is changing that with the G Flex, and for that I’ve got to give ‘em a tip of my hat. We’ll just have to wait and see how well the G Flex does with consumers. But it’s great to see the Life’s Good crew launching the G Flex across multiple US carriers and giving consumers the opportunity to pick up a new smartphone that’s a bit different than most of the other slabs on store shelves. For a quick look at the G Flex in action, you can check out our hands-on with the device during CES 2014 down above.

Who Is Boston George?
Boston George is a native of Houston Texas. He grew up on the ‘Nawfside’ (Northside) of the city but ultimately reps his entire city and the Great state of Texas. A true Houstonian, George has been on the music scene for sometime now, but not as a rapper. He experimented as a rap artist in 2009 but put down the mic believing that his role as a leader would be better in supporting other artists in the city that had more of a buzz. At this point he officially became a Co-CEO of the record label Authentik Music Group more widely known in the streets simply as ‘AMG’.

After successfully breaking a few new artists into the music scene, George made the decision to pick back up his mic and share his life with the city and ultimately the world while holding his title as CEO of AMG and continuing to sign and develop artists. With influences from his close associates Slim Thug and Yo Gotti, he learned the business and realized that he too can successfully be a boss and an artist.

Boston George recorded his 1st official single entitled ‘Molly’ mid July of 2012. During a 3-week period, he managed to get the song played consistently in the top clubs in the Houston nightlife and also in other markets including Orlando, Dallas, and parts of Louisiana. He also accomplished getting his single played on Houston’s most popular hip-hop radio station 97.9 The Box during the Michael Watts show on Sundays.

After accomplishing so much in a short time, George knew that he made the right decision to pursue this career path and hasn’t stopped grinding since. George truly believes if you work hard for what you want and seize every opportunity, success is the only option and failures are only speed bumps along the road.

Listen To Alison Valentine : Curious

Based in New York City, Alison Valentine's first single from her forthcoming debut EP is a light, shimmering, skip-along dance jam that feels straight out of a 2007 Kitsuné compilation; perfect for sunbathing on a very French beach. Produced by Chrome Canyon, the track is an example of the sort of lovey, summertime swirl that Valentine goes for. (It's not shocking that, by day, the singer is a fleuriste whose custom creations are designed for Hermes, Oscar de la Renta, and Yoko Ono.) But being ostentatiously adorable is part of the point here — "kawaii" is a tagged influence on this track in particular — and it certainly serves the singer well in the area of nu-disco nonchalance. The EP is expected to carry the single, which you can listen to below, along with remixes from Blood Diamonds, Chrome Sparks, and more.

Cars : 2014 Audi R8 GT Spyder

Cars : 2014 Audi R8 GT Spyder

Like superheroes, supercars don’t have a typical life cycle. The Audi R8 might be showing a hint of gray around the edges—but it’s still a looker. Launched initially with a 4.2-liter V-8, a V-10 was added, then a spyder, and, finally, the lightweight, limited-production, and loud R8 GT. Audi has toyed with the idea of an R8 V-12 TDI, and several prototypes of a fully electric R8 e-tron were built.

Now the mid-engined supercar has been face-lifted for the first time, and a new top model—the R8 Plus—is scheduled to come to the U.S. in the first quarter of 2014. The lineup now consists of the 4.2 FSI with a 430-hp V-8, the 5.2 FSI powered by a 525-hp V-10, and the R8 5.2 FSI Plus sporting a 550-hp V-10. Compared with the regular V-10, the Plus version gets extra power and torque—it makes 398 lb-ft instead of 391—thanks to modified engine management. No hardware is changed. The additional power helps to make the R8 a bit quicker.

More important than the power boost, however, is the weight saving in the Plus model. Compared with the regular V-10, almost 35 pounds of sound insulation are expunged. Racing-style seats mean 45 fewer pounds, ceramic brakes—optional in the lesser versions—shed another 25 pounds, and switching from magnetic ride to conventional suspension damping tosses about 15 additional pounds. What’s more, the R8 Plus is loud; the combination of intake and exhaust sound will send shivers of joy down your spine. Aurally, this is pure Lamborghini territory, which isn’t much of a surprise, since the R8 shares not only its structural components but also its V-10 engine with the Gallardo. With the manual box, 0 to 60 mph takes an estimated 3.5 seconds, and top speed is an ungoverned 198 mph. Audi means business with the R8 Plus, and the fact that you can’t presently get its goods fitted to the 200-pound-heavier R8 Spyder proves it.

We are thrilled to report that you can still get the R8—and this includes every engine and body variation—with a six-speed manual transmission operated via a gated shifter. Internally called the ML600, the box is a marvel of precision and aesthetics. Customers here in the U.S. should congratulate themselves; we and the U.K. have the highest manual take rates.

More big news comes in the form of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, internally called the DL800. This box—marketing calls it the S tronic—weighs about 45 more pounds than the manual transmission but provides lightning-quick shifts. It blips the throttle artfully, rarely finds itself out of step, and is objectively fast. In the R8 Plus, it trims the quoted 0-to-60-mph time from 3.6 to 3.3 seconds. Top speed is lower by a fairly insignificant 1 mph.

The DL800 entirely replaces the previously offered SL600 (R tronic in Audi-speak), a six-speed automated manual that weighed a mere 10 more pounds than the ML600 but was known for its jerky shifts. Interestingly, Lamborghini keeps the SL600 in its face-lifted Gallardo.

Irritatingly, manually operating the new dual-clutch box still involves pushing the lever away from you to upshift and pulling it toward you to downshift; try that during a hard braking maneuver on the track. Audi’s performance division, Quattro GmbH, wanted to change it. Audi chief Rupert Stadler said no.

Positioned below the R8 Plus, the regular V-10 performs nearly as well but does so in a more civilized manner—and in a more comfortable package. Significantly less expensive than the R8 Plus and available as a spyder, we suspect it will remain this wild family’s volume model. The entry-level V-8 is a fascinating machine in itself, with a more subtle soundtrack, superb throttle response, and performance still within the supercar envelope. It doesn’t offer earth-scorching torque but rather pleasant linearity and refinement. It is a lot less expensive than the V-10, too.

Audi has left the aluminum chassis with its hydraulic power steering largely intact, which is a good thing. The R8 is no extreme lightweight; weights for the range should still run from 3500 to 3900 or so pounds. Nevertheless, all R8 iterations are tossable, precise, and good-natured. Drifts out of corners can be easily induced, but if you enter clumsily, you could end up with noticeable understeer. The carbon-ceramic brakes, optional on the lesser versions, bite sharply and displayed no fading during our prolonged hard driving. They are recommended if you can swallow their significant price premium.

For a mid-engined supercar, the R8 is surprisingly spacious, with adequate room for luggage and passengers. New details include a metal strip above the navigation screen, metal accents on the power-window switches, and restyled shift paddles for the dual-clutch box. Audi offers new fabrics and leathers.

The exterior modifications are similarly subtle. The grille gets a slightly modified contour, the front bumper is minimally changed, and all three versions now tout the same huge, round exhaust pipes left and right. The quadruple pipes of the V-8 and the oval tips of the previous V-10 make way for that new look, which resembles that of the out-of-production R8 GT. The most obvious changes pertain to lighting. The front headlights are restyled full-LED units, and they’re now standard equipment on all R8 models. The taillights are also restyled. Where it is legal, the amber turn-signal strip sequentially illuminates outward. It’s a cool effect, but for legal reasons, which have to do with the size of the turn signals, it won’t be on U.S.-bound models.

The R8 remains a competitive player and is an absolute joy to drive. It always seems to have a few tricks up its sleeves. Its supercar proportions set it apart from competitors such as the Porsche 911 and Nissan GT-R, and the R8’s smooth styling, conceived by Audi designer Frank Lamberty, remains true to the original Le Mans concept. Audi, of course, is already working on the next-generation model. We can’t wait to strap into that one.

Who Is Modular People?
Modular Recordings was established a few hours before the first release was due to go to press in the fortuitous summer of 1998. In the years since the label has gone on to achieve just about every level of success imaginable with acts like The Avalanches, Wolfmother, Cut Copy, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jack Johnson, Ben Lee, The Presets, Ladyhawke and Chromeo, just to cherry pick a few. The label celebrated a decade in the game in 2008 and sights are now firmly set on the next 10.

Modular Recordings falls under the Modular People umbrella, a rather, ah, modular-type brains trust that also counts Modular Touring, The Modular Agency and Modular Ideas as business and life partners.

From '98 til the bitter end - Modular.

Videos : Jennifer Hudson ft. T.I. : I Can't Describe (The Way I Feel)

Videos : Jennifer Hudson ft. T.I. : I Can't Describe (The Way I Feel)

Who Is Jennifer Hudson?
“This album is a new introduction to me,” says Jennifer Hudson. “It’s the feeling of a journey, rediscovering myself and getting to know myself all over again.”

Hudson’s new record, I REMEMBER ME, is a remarkable step forward for one of the biggest and most talked-about stars to emerge in recent years. It’s the follow-up to 2008’s Grammy-winning, gold-certified JENNIFER HUDSON, the debut release from an artist who had already conquered the worlds of television (with her success on American Idol) and movies (though her triumphant, Academy Award-winning performance in Dreamgirls).

“The first album was all about finding out who I am, for me and for the listeners,” she says. “This time, I’ve been able to be far more involved. We brought it up a notch and approached the album with a definite direction. I’m really proud that I could not be more content with it, or feel more present in it.”

The songs on I REMEMBER ME were written and produced by an all-star line-up of the biggest talents in music today, including R. Kelly (who is behind the album’s first single, the hit “Where You At”), Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, Polow da Don, and Salaam Remi. Harvey Mason, who has worked with singers from Aretha Franklin to Justin Timberlake to Whitney Houston, produced Hudson’s vocals throughout. The album producers are the legendary Clive Davis and Larry Jackson.

"This album really captures Jennifer's amazing signature sound doing material that's totally worthy of her,” says Davis, Chief Creative Officer of Sony Music Entertainment. “It's all very special and I just know it will continue to resonate for many years to come."

“I woke up one morning and I just started writing,” she says. “I feel like in 29 years I’ve led four different lives, and the me today versus the me from ten years ago, I can’t even recognize that person. The only way to identify myself is from my hands, my familiar face—sometimes that’s the only reminder I have of my own identity and who I used to be. So I took this paragraph that I wrote, and I thought that the only person who could help me finish this song was Ryan Tedder.”

“This diary entry was about Jennifer looking in a mirror and seeing her reflection,” says Tedder, the producer of smash hits by the likes of Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, and Leona Lewis. “The inspirational twist was that despite the tragedies, she still remembered who she was, and the one thing no one could take from her was a lifetime of memories and the love she holds for her family.”

Echoes of Hudson’s own history appear elsewhere on I REMEMBER ME. “I come from a big singing background in my family,” she says. ”We all grew up in the choir, and that’s really where it kicked off. I knew at the age of 7 what I wanted to do—that’s when I started going after that dream, and I never looked back.”

The Chicago-born and -based singer maintains that she needs to retain that connection to her gospel roots. “I have to have an inspirational song on my album,” she says, “and not a watered-down one—not one where you just smack Jesus’ name in the middle of an R&B song, I can’t deal with that!” Hudson’s debut album concluded with a rendition of “Jesus Promised Me a Home Over There,” and that same slot on I REMEMBER ME is also held by a spiritual number, though this one comes from an unlikely source.

Last year, Hudson performed at the farewell concert by superstar country duo Brooks and Dunn. They asked her to sing a 2005 hit of theirs titled “Believe.” Though she wasn’t initially sure why they made this selection, she says that she “fell in love with the song that night—I had to have it on the album.” Produced by Harvey Mason, “Believe” ends the album on a soaring, emotional peak.

The song “Still Here” also offers a connection to Hudson’s personal history. Written by Songwriters Hall of Famer Diane Warren, the lyrics are a moving tribute to the singer's family. "I will never forget how you touched my life," Hudson sings. "I still see you, I still feel you/And we'll never be apart."

Not that everything on I REMEMBER ME is such serious business. The three tracks co-produced by Alicia Keys all have an old-school funk/disco flavor (“kind of Chaka Khan-influenced, and brought up to date,” says Hudson). The song “Angel,” says the singer, “has that kick in it—it’s like the school band comes drilling down the aisle, with Jennifer singing at the front of it.”

Long associated with the great Nina Simone, the sultry “Feeling Good” has been adopted by Hudson as the celebratory theme for her Weight Watchers campaign. More inspiration comes from the jubilant “I Got This,” produced by the hit machine known as Stargate. “Going back to when Brandy had ‘Sittin’ on Top of the World,’ I always wanted one of those songs,” says Hudson. “It’s an anthem, a reminder that you got this, you can do it. I can see everybody chanting that, singing it together and lifting each other up.”

Intense and intimate, joyous and danceable, I REMEMBER ME demonstrates the range and growth of Jennifer Hudson as an artist. It’s a testament to music’s power to heal, and to the continuing maturity of a singer who is practically a household name, but still in the early stages of her career.

“I’m in a different place, and the album reflects that,” says Hudson. “You can feel the energy of everybody that participated in this whole project, and it just feels amazing.”
