Bars + Lounges : Canada : British Columbia : Vancouver : The Alibi Room

The Alibi Room
What do we mean, “Modern Tavern”? – Well, we feel this term best sums up what we are trying to achieve here at the Alibi Room.

Since summer 2006, new owners Raya Audet & Nigel Springthorpe have been quietly turning the Alibi Room into the place for local craft beer on tap. We have become a true Free House, pouring guest beers from all over the province and beyond.

Head chef Greg Armstrong has added an understated sophistication to our very accessible menu. The menu reflects a strong desire to provide familar, comforting dishes with an emphasis on quality ingredients.

All of our meat, fish & poultry are either sourced locally, ocean friendly, naturally raised or free run.

We are of the belief that beer can be at least as versatile as wine when it comes to food pairing. We pour multiple taps, plus a rotating cask selection from our beer engines. Each usually representing a local brewery, often available exclusively at the Alibi. Occasionally we are approached by some U.S. micro breweries with “one off” kegs. We have put together one of the most diverse selections in the province & encourage you to come try the best beer B.C. has to offer.

However, we are not total beer snobs. Our wine list features local boutique & organically grown wines. We also have a very creative house cocktail list.

The building is a heritage site, which was erected over 100 years ago. It is positioned along the railyard only a short distance from Vancouver’s trade and shipping ports. All of these elements combined make for a unique and inspiring experience. The Alibi has established itself as a place for neighbours and community to share in great food, fantastic beer and culture.

The Alibi Room Review By Alan G. F.: Vancouver, Canada
"After watching Lakers games, and experiencing concerts at Hyde Lounge, it was time to take in a Kings playoff game from Suite Level C.

The Alibi Room - like the Pour House it's hard to believe this is a Vancouver establishment. Tucked away in a corner of Gastown that's about as far from Gastown as you can be and still technically be in Gastown, the Alibi Room still managed to find an early and faithful following.

In the early days, way back in the 90s when Vancouver's film industry was booming, the Alibi Room catered to that crowd. Fast forward to 2014, Gastown is no longer the junkie's paradise it once was, now it's filled with trendy stores, expensive lofts and many new restaurants and bars, and despite all of the new competition the Alibi Room is still going strong.

With good reason. They had a huge selection of craft beers before most people had heard the term, 'craft beer' it changes regularly and the bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beers on tap and are happy to share that knowledge with you (as opposed to looking down their noses at you because you haven't heard of the latest Oregon farm brewed organic pumpkin stout).

As well, in keeping with the communal atmosphere of the place, they actually (gasp!) allow to migrate from bar to table. Furthermore the Alibi Room is a rare Vancouver watering hole where you can actually talk with strangers and they won't view you as some unwanted alien species.

And the food...it's more than decent, they have their creative moments and not all succeed, but generally speaking the food is of a very decent quality for a venue like this.
