News : Kanye “Kanyed” By Houston Police
“Imma let you finish…just kidding” is essentially what Houston police told Kanye West late Friday night when they shut down the outspoken rapper’s video projection event.
For the past week, West has been screening the video for his song “New Slaves” via projection on building facades across the world. Friday night’s events included three screenings throughout Houston at The Rothko Chapel, The Central Library, and The George Bush Monument. The Rothko Chapel screening was the only event of the three to even actually launch. The library event was delayed and eventually shut down due to “technical difficulties,” says the Houston Chronicle, and the George Bush Monument screening simply never happened.
The events were planned as buzz for West’s forthcoming album, Yeezus, releasing June 18th. The crowd at Houston’s Rothko Chapel was said to be respectful, yet police pulled numerous cars onto the grass, sounded their sirens, and demanded event-goers leave immediately or be arrested for trespassing. Did Kanye forget to obtain all his proper permits for the event? Was there some other threat at hand? Or does the Houston Police department just really love Taylor Swift, like a lot?
Sunday’s scheduled projections of “New Slaves” in Baltimore were also cancelled, citing lack of permits following Houston’s debacle, but I’m still guessing Houston Police just really like TSwif.
