About Cal's American Kitchen
Cal's Classic American Kitchen is officially open for business at 404 Terry Avenue N (near Harrison), filling in yet another space in what's becoming a formidable restaurant row deep in the Amazon.

It's the second restaurant from Classic Concepts Group, a team consisting of former Bastille chef Shannon Galusha, Matthew Schweitzer, and Jeff Chandler, whose family is behind the Ram brewpubs. The first one, in Kent, is more of a tavern, though much like the South Lake Union space, the guys sunk considerable resources into design, and creating an aged-industrial interior that belies the modern building it resides in.

Cal's is open for lunch and dinner, and starts brunch this Saturday. Galusha's menu is exactly what you would expect from an establishment with the words "classic," "American," and "kitchen" in the name: burgers, fancy mac and cheese, "tots in the style tater," hearty salads and veggie sides, and a host of totally-decadent-yet-classy bar bites.

Oh, and one more thing. The 5,000-square-foot space has ample bar real estate, including craft cocktails, happy hour, and a communal table with a pour-your-own table tap that dispenses beer by the ounce.

Cal's American Kitchen Review By Jerome B. : Kent, WA
I decided to go to Cal's once again for my brother's 21st birthday and my 25th birthday (we both have the same birthday, strange huh?) Cal's was an obvious choice for us since most of my cousins lived in the Kent area and we had a decent experience the last time.

I called ahead of time to arrange reservations. I spoke with the manager, DeShawn. She was very accommodating and full of information to help facilitate our birthday dinner with my family (17 people in total). She was very flexible with when I gave her the incorrect date in the beginning (my own fault) and called a week before hand to change the date. She was very clear about all of the logistical details (splitting checks, bringing a birthday cake, etc).

The day arrived and all 17 of us were at the restaurant. Beyond control, there was one table that decided to stay exponentially longer than expected which caused us to wait to be seated for 20ish minutes. They sat us elsewhere for the interim and were nice enough to provide water while we waited. Finally after waiting, they sat us down.

The workers and DeShawn were very apologetic about the wait and were generous enough to provide 6 appetizers on the house for my family! I was really appreciative of that and thought it was a nice gesture. Also, they gave us a couple of alcoholic beverages that were mistakenly made at the bar and did not want to go to waste!

They were very organized with the ordering process, the food was delicious (and HUGE, I got the chicken club!), and accommodating when it came to the cake portion (providing extra plates, a cake knife and silverware without ask).

Overall, I was really impressed by the service moreso than anything else this time around. If you have a large party, don't hesitate to contact DeShawn! She was awesome, as well as the 2 waiters that took care of us--they were very attentive, friendly and accommodating!
