Videos : Lorde : Team
In the chorus of "Team," a track off Lorde's debut album Pure Heroine, she sings, "We live in cities you'll never see onscreen," and now she's giving us a glimpse (onscreen) into her world. In between shots of the teenage pop singer spazzing out in a blue, foliage-filled universe, two young men have it out with one another, indulging in kidnapping and motorbike jousting. It's an unseen city, apparently, without any parental guidance.
"This video was borne from a dream I had a few months ago about teenagers in their own world, a world with hierarchies and initiations, where the boy who was second in command had acne on his face, and so did the girl who was Queen," Lorde said about the video on her Facebook page. "I dreamt about this world being so different to anything anyone had ever seen, a dark world full of tropical plants and ruins and sweat. And of this world, I dreamt about tests that didn't need to be passed in order to be allowed in: sometimes the person who loses is stronger."
Last month, Lorde recently performed "Team," as well as a number of other songs on the Late Show With David Letterman. She also released her version of Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" in November, which appears on the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. This weekend, she'll perform at KROQ's annual Almost Acoustic show in Los Angeles.
