News : Selena Gomez Praises 'Powerful and Really Cool' Lorde Despite Come & Get It Diss
Selena Gomez has proved herself to be the bigger person after heaping praise on Lorde for being “powerful” and “really cool” despite being dissed by the 'Royals' singer for being over-sexualised and singing racy lyrics.
The 'Come & Get It' star surprisingly singles out the New Zealand hitmaker for being one of the most promising acts in pop at the moment and acting as a good role model for young fans due to her unapologetic need to voice her opinions.
In an interview with Seventeen magazine, Selena admitted: “There is one artist that I think is very powerful. She doesn't really like me, but that's all right. Her name's Lorde and she's really cool. I mean, I do think her message is very powerful. She's very young but she's got a lot to say and that's great, so more power to her.”
Selena's comments may come as a huge surprise considering Lorde, 17, appeared to diss the former Disney star's hit single 'Come & Get It.'
“I love pop music on a sonic level. But I’m a feminist and the theme of her song [Come & Get It] is, ‘When you’re ready come and get it from me.’ I’m sick of women being portrayed this way," Lorde told J-14 magazine.
Over the last few months, Lorde has become close friends with Selena's BFF Taylor Swift with the pair hanging out together in Australia and even at the 2014 Grammys last weekend.
Meanwhile, Selena, 21, continued to share her thoughts on girl power and what it means to her in the Seventeen interview, saying: “I think girl power can mean so many different things, especially because we live in a time where it's so competitive with females - whether it's fashion or boys or friends and boys and boys and boys.
“It's really unfortunate. I feel like girl power is almost more powerful and more special than anything you're competing for.”
