Who Is Chanel West Coast?
Signed YMCMB recording artist Chanel West Coast is truly one of a kind. You might also know her as the sharp, smart, and vivacious blonde from the MTV hit shows Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory and Ridiculousness, but don’t let that fool you. Chanel West Coast is a passionate artist with a true love and talent for music. Couple that with her unique sexy street chic style and her high-fashion persona, and what you get is a force to be reckoned with.
Music came first for Chanel West Coast—born Chelsea "Chanel" Dudley. As a child, she took singing and dancing lessons with the encouragement of family. As she got older she continued to grow her love of performance by partaking in winning competitive Hip-Hop dance teams. As her musical knowledge expanded she received formal training on violin. Growing up, she split her time between North Hollywood with her mom and New York with her DJ father. Her Dad would even bring eight-year-old Chanel along when he spun at packed nightclubs in the city, and she remembers sitting under the DJ booth so that no one could see her. “I've always been around music, and I knew it's what I'd do for the rest of my life. I didn't have a choice." Immersing herself in Hip-Hop and picking up skateboarding in the process, she formally got behind the mic in none other than the legendary Marvin Gaye's Hollywood Hills studio. At 17-years-old, she launched her first MySpace Music page under the name Chanel West Coast.
Since that point Chanel’s career has been on the upward climb. 2012 proved to be one of her biggest break through years. Lil Wayne personally invited her to his Miami studio to play some of her tracks, and she left the meeting with a record deal, signed to Young Money Entertainment/Cash Money Records. The first taste of her YMCMB output was the irresistible "Karl", the first single from the "Now You Know" Mixtape. Coupled with the high-fashion provocative music video, Lagerfeld himself would undoubtedly be proud of Chanel West Coast's impenetrable delivery and seductive swagger.
After enormous success from the mixtape, Chanel continues to put out music and content weekly with her popular “West Coast Wednesdays”. Along with releasing music, Chanel dropped the funny and quirky music video for her viral song “Alcoholic”, where she plays her alter ego “Natalia”. She also headlined her first tour in December 2013, the “Now You Know” Tour, which was popular across the country and continued to bring awareness to the music sensation that is Chanel West Coast.
Currently, Chanel is working on finishing her debut album that is projected to drop at the end of August 2014, which will be coupled by another headlining tour run. Chanel continues to want to get her message out - "This is who I am, I go through the same things everybody else does, and I rap my perspective on the world I see.”
