Videos : Retro Sushi : Mary Jace
Currently co-headlining the Cross Faded Tour, with New York collective World’s Fair, Two-9 has continued to push out new music that experiment with their traditional Atlanta sound. Retro Su$h!, the duo from the crew, released a brand new video this morning that signals their growth and new direction. “Mary Jace”, a humorous play on member Jace’s name and the colloquial term for marijuana, features a sample of Mary Gold’s “Prayer”. Like the source of inspiration, the visuals are gritty and dark, filled with an ample amount of narcotics and liquor.
While Ceej doesn’t have a verse on the track, Jace does more than enough to make it an enjoyable listen. Flowing over the Childish Major production with relative ease, he spits about the perks of rising popularity, through the lens of someone in the midst of intense bender. He is discussing benefits that everyone seems to enjoy, but with a melancholy or spooky description. It is a surprising turn and makes for a great video.
