Who is Stoni?
When you think of hard hitting hip-hop beats and with sophisticated melodies there’s only one name that comes to mind…Stoni. This edgy powerhouse is a Brooklyn, NY native who grew up listening to everything from Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder to Prince and The Rolling Stones. But her musical influences don’t begin and end there. At the tender age of 16, she began her musical journey at the feet of none other than Russell Simmons, co-founder of the pioneering hip-hop record label, Def Jam and hip-hop fashion industry icon. She cut her teeth working alongside some of the great legends of hip-hop and rock music, and was personally groomed and mentored by musical engineering guru Bob Powers. While interning at several major recording studios in New York City including Chung King and The Hit Factory, Stoni gained a vast knowledge of the inner workings of the music and recording industry and discovered a love for sound design.
It’s her love of music and her passion for music production that constantly drives her. It was her competitive nature that lead her to compete in her first beat battle. In 2003, Stoni was the first female producer to ever compete in a beat battle and win. She was also the first female to compete and win an international beat battle title. It’s that competitive edge that keeps her on top, and which made the hip-hop world stand up and paid close attention to this fiery up and comer. She has proven time and time again that she is a force to be reckoned with. Stoni has been featured in several magazines, including being the first female music producer featured in Scratch Magazine, the hip hop music producer’s bible. She was among some of the music industry’s most renowned musicians, producers, artist, and songwriters for the 2nd annual Remix Hotel NYC, where she spoke about her work and experience as a music producer, then she rocked the audience with a live performance on her drum machine. She was also a featured performer at the CMJ Music Marathon, and was one of the most anticipated performances on opening night.
