News : PETA Targets Chris Brown
Chris Brown has been criticised by animal rights group Peta ('People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals') for wearing fur during a show at New York fashion week.
In a statement released online, Peta labelled Brown as "out of touch", accusing him of "more ugly violence", making reference to the singer's 2009 felony charge after assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna.
"There are few things more out of touch than draping yourself in the skins of animals who were beaten, electrocuted, and even skinned alive for their fur," the statement reads. "Pink’s New York Fashion Week Peta billboard shows that true beauty comes from kindness – Chris Brown’s furs are just more of the same from him: ugly violence."
Brown was pictured wearing fur at the Michael Costello runway show earlier this week, with a photo later uploaded to Instagram.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles police searched Brown's car earlier this month (February 6) after receiving an anonymous tip that his passenger was carrying a gun.
TMZ reported at the time Brown was attending rapper TI's pre-Grammy party at Hollywood's Sayer nightclub when law enforcement detained a friend of the singer before searching his Lamborghini. No weapon was found by the police officers.
Just last month, during an appearance at a San Jose nightclub, Brown was forced to flee the stage after gunshots were fired. Five people were injured in the gunfire and several people were arrested following the incident.
It wasn't the first time a weapon had been discharged at a Brown event. Last August, at pre-MTV Video Music Awards party hosted by the 25-year-old at the he 1Oak nightclub in West Hollywood, former CEO of Death Row Records Marion 'Suge' Knight Jr was injured after being struck several times when shots were fired.
