News : Iggy Azalea Matches Beatles Chart Record
Australian recording artist Iggy Azalea has scored both the number one and two spots in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, a feat achieved only once before – by The Beatles.
Azalea’s first single, Fancy, from her debut studio album The New Classic, took poll position, while she also featured on Ariana Grande’s track Problem, which charted at number two.
The Beatles set the record in February 1964 with I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You at numbers one and two, respectively.
Azalea’s previous single Change Your Life, featuring T.I., made it into the UK Top Ten, and the pair were invited to perform at this year’s Grammy awards ceremony.
The 23-year-old rapper, whose real name is Amethyst Amelia Kelly, rose to fame with YouTube hits Pu$$y and Two Times. After facing criticism last year for adopting an American accent while performing, Azalea responded in an interview with Complex magazine, saying: “Obviously there are people who rap in all kinds of accents. But for me, rapping is like singing: the breath patterns aren’t the same as when I’m talking, so it’s easier to change into whatever I want.”
