Linkin Park has released a heavy-sounding new track from the rock band’s six full-length album, “The Hunting Party,” due June 17.
The new three-minute track, titled “Wastelands,” was posted as a lyric video on YouTube on June 1. The forthcoming “The Hunting Party” is the follow-up to the band’s 2012 album, “Living Things,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Check out the new track above.
Linkin Park’s new set features guest appearances by Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello (“Drawbar”), System of a Down’s Daron Malakian (“Rebellion”) and Helmet’s Page Hamilton ("All for Nothing”). Earlier this year, Linkin Park rapper and multi-instrumentalist Mike Shinoda told Rolling Stone the band was taking a heavier musical direction with the new album.
"It needed to be visceral," Shinoda said. "We need to weed out a lot of the soft, emo kind of approach to our music, and we need to weed out anything that feels aggressive for aggressive's sake. We're not 18-year-old kids making a loud record – we're 37-year-old adults making a loud record. And what makes a 37-year-old angry is different than what made us angry back in the day."
