Who Is DJ Cassidy?
When a fifth grader named Cassidy Durango Milton Willy Podell asked his parents to buy him turntables and a mixer for his tenth birthday, DJ Cassidy was born. Today, Cassidy is simply the most sought-after deejay in his industry. An icon in music, fashion, media, and nightlife, Cassidy’s notoriety, respect, and demand are unparalleled.

DJ Cassidy has always strived to be undefined, a deejay sought after to play all music, for all people, all over the world. After rocking renowned parties for nearly two-thirds of his life, Cassidy will be releasing his debut album on Columbia Records in late 2013. The record is the culmination of a lifetime of deejaying around the globe, observing people react, and making people move. “I set out on a mission to bring the greatest and most universal dance music of all time back to the airwaves, back to nightlife, back to the dance floor,” declares the maestro. To achieve his mission, Cassidy united the most legendary musicians from the late 1970s and early 1980s together for the first time in over thirty years to recreate the sound of their prolific era using no covers, no interpolations, and no samples. Then, Cassidy recruited an astoundingly eclectic roster of esteemed recording artists from his era to write and record original songs. The result is an epic opus of celebration whose inescapable rhythm and explosive spirit moves every body within its reach.

DJ Cassidy recently debuted select songs from his album while opening for Jay Z and Justin Timberlake on their 2013 Legends Of The Summer stadium tour and while acting as the one-man-house-band for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. In February 2014, Cassidy will join Robin Thicke and Jessie J on Robin’s nationwide tour.

As a young child, Cassidy idolized Hip Hop Pioneers Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa and Grandmaster Flash. While many of his peers expressed their love of Hip Hop through the disdain of other musical genres, Cassidy expressed his by embracing all of the culture’s vast musical influences. To emulate his heroes, he knew he had to play like his heroes. Cassidy studied the back of every record cover, learning who wrote and produced his favorite songs, as well as where and how they were created. He became fascinated with the interconnectedness of the music world. One record led the youngster to the next. A student he was, a party-motivator he was about to become.

Cassidy turned his childhood passion into a job during elementary and junior high school in New York City. These early years were both formative and limiting, as they provided him with definitive experience, but narrow audiences. Cassidy’s first big break in nightlife came in the summer of 1999 when he landed weekly gigs at several New York City hotspots. That fall, Cassidy attended George Washington University in Washington DC. He commuted home each weekend to maintain the club residencies and soon transferred to New York University where he graduated in 2003 with a major in sociology. In the summer of 2000, DJ Cassidy began a three-year stint at West Village nightclub, Halo. With the teenage deejay at its helm, Sunday nights at Halo grew to be a world-renowned party and fixture in New York City nightlife, attracting many celebrity regulars including Sean “Diddy” Combs. Diddy soon began hiring Cassidy for all of his well-known events including his MTV Video Music Award parties, Grammy parties, fashion shows, and White Parties in The Hamptons.

DJ Cassidy’s personal clientele quickly grew and now reads like a who’s-who of iconic figures. That list includes President Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Russell Simmons, LA Reid, Anna Wintour, LeBron James, Jerry Seinfeld, Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Tommy Hilfiger, Patricia Field, Tina Turner, Tyler Perry, Alicia Keys, Mary J. In 2011, Cassidy performed at President Obama’s fiftieth birthday party in The White House. Once elected, President Obama called on Cassidy again, this time to perform at The White House on the night of his second Inauguration.
