Who Is Tensake?
Marco Niemerski, known professionally as Tensnake (born 1975), is a German DJ and producer from Hamburg best known for his 2010 track "Coma Cat", which appeared on at least 15 compilations that year.

"Coma Cat" reached #85 on the official UK Singles Chart and #17 on the dance chart in the UK.

Tensnake emerged in the mid-2000s with a disco-influenced style and rapidly rose to critical acclaim by the end of the decade. He is most widely known for his huge 2010 dancefloor smash hit ‘Coma Cat’.

Born in Hamburg in 1975, Marco grew up listening to disco, soul, boogie, funk and the finer cuts of 80s pop, from Prince, to the more Balearic tracks from Simple Minds to, er, Prefab Sprout. His older brother introduced him to an even wider range of influences; everything from freestyle and boogie to Italo-pop. As he grew older he went through a brief Mod phase before finding and embracing more dancefloor-inspired influences from Larry Levan to Junior Boys Own, Romanthony to Masters of Work.

The diverse set of influences has often been pointed to as the reason behind the extraordinary depth that distinguishes Tensnake’s records.

After starting the Mirau label with friends in 2005, Marco’s first record was ‘Around The House’, which he felt was “a lucky strike” at the time, but still sounds fresh six years on. When he first appeared on the scene his early releases were seen as a welcome antidote to the omnipresent minimal house scene of the time.

He made his commercial recording debut on the Mirau label with his Restless EP in 2006, which he followed up with I Say Mista in 2007. In addition, he released EPs on the labels Players Paradise (Dust, 2007), Radius Records (Fired Egg, 2007), and Endless Flight (Keep Believin’, 2008).

Tensnake’s first taste of critical acclaim came with the release of In the End (I Want You to Cry EP) on the label Running Back in 2009. The EP was voted number one on djhistory.com’s end-of-the-year list, and was the main driver behind Tensnake’s breakthrough success.

The release of Coma Cat in 2010 was the defining moment of his career to date. The track reached #85 on the official UK Singles Chart and #17 on the dance chart in the UK. Its incredibly warm reception propelled Tensnake to fame and Marco has since been lauded a rare and exciting instance of a “producer’s producer”.

His hotly awaited debut album, Glow, is due in 2014. One of the first tracks to come from it, 58BPM (feat. Fiora), consciously places ultimate importance with the songwriting and sets a smooth and down tempo tone. Marco said of it: “I wanted to make a statement with the first single and surprise people.” With shades of Prince and a remix from Mano Le Tough, the track surprised yet delighted in equal measure.

Glow features collaborations with Fiora, Stuart Price, Jamie Liddell, MNEK (British singer Uzoechi Osisioma Emenike), Jeremy Glenn, Gabriel Stebbing (Nightworks) as well as the mighty Nile Rodgers from Chic. It has been said of Glow that it is an album that stands alone as a complete, cohesive piece of work, rather than a collection of dancefloor tracks collated on one CD. It’s a dance music album that makes total sense if you sit down and listen to it at home from start to finish.
