Videos : John Legend : Made To Love

Videos : John Legend : Made To Love

Well helloooooo, John Legend, it's great to see your face! But, like, no joke. FIVE YEARS?! You made us wait FIVE YEARS since your last record, 2008's Evolver, before you released "Who Do We Think We Are" featuring Rick Ross? You must really have no idea how hard it is to wait that long for a nine-time Grammy-winner to release a new album -- what with your being a nine-time Grammy-winner yourself and all. Trust us, it's tough. But that's why your new "Made To Love" video -- the second single off of your upcoming fourth disc, Love In The Future -- is SO satisfying. And beautiful. And moving. And... um, hot.

Yesterday afternoon, Legend announced the arrival of his much-anticipated new video via Twitter. And just a warning, iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit's pretty sexy and probably NSFW. To be fair, though, the clip is directed by acclaimed fashion photographer Daniel Sannwald, and the concept came from Yoann Lemoine (aka the guy who directed Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die," and Drake and Rihanna's "Take Care"). So if anyone tries to write you up, you can just be all, "#ART," and run away.

The video itself alternates between close-ups of Mr. Legend, super sensual CG lovers made out of (our most scientifically sound guess would be) goo, splashes of brilliant color, and four human lovers. Beginning as an indistinguishable amalgamation of hair and limbs, the paramours gradually split off into two pairs, one straight and one gay. It's pretty cool that the female-female couple isn't depicted in a salacious or objectified manner in the way that your average mainstream lesbian representation tends to. Or, rather, if they are being salaciously objectified, at least it's no more so than the male-female couple next to them. PROGRESS, Y'ALL.
