News : Drake Used As Collateral to Drop Raptors' NBA Fine?

News : Drake Used As Collateral to Drop Raptors' NBA Fine?

On Monday, we learned that the NBA fined the Raptors $25,000 due to a tampering violation by official ambassador Drake. The rapper invited Kevin Durant to join the team during his big Toronto music festival recently with the reigning MVP in attendance. Fans chanted and everything.

The NBA is pretty consistent in punishing public displays of tampering, so there was really no other option here. Except, according to The Globe and Mail's Cathal Kelly, there was a choice.

They also refused to address a key detail - that the NBA offered to drop the tampering fine if the team agreed to strip Drake of his title. The Raptors apparently refused. Seems like the NBA is OVOreacting here.

But it makes sense. If Drake is no longer a Raptors ambassador, the team shouldn't get fined for the playful recruitment. It seems more like an alternative for the Raptors than what Kelly frames as the league trying to run one of the most popular musicians in the world out of the NBA.
