Gadgets : Beats by Dr. Dre Solo2 Wireless Headphones

Gadgets : Beats by Dr. Dre Solo2 Wireless Headphones

Beats by Dr. Dre Solo2 Wireless headphones is the first product to be rolled out from the brand post Apple acquisition. And it may seem a little surprising since they had just released the Solo2 not that long before it.

Should You Buy It?

If you haven’t bought the Beats Solo2 wired version yet, then don’t – buy this one instead! As much as I am a fan of the wired version of the Solo2, the wireless version is so much more freeing and there is no sacrifice in sound in either. In fact, both the Solo2 and Solo2 Wireless sound practically identical. Beats also includes a wire, so when the battery goes dead, the music doesn’t. The look is exactly the same as the Solo2 wired version, as well as the collapsible design.

The main difference in aesthetics is the Micro USB port and battery fuel indicator lights. The battery lasts a solid 12 hours just as it claims, I was actually able to squeeze out even more hours after consistently turning it on and off over weeks of use. Pairing is a cinch and requires literally less than a minute to pair between headphones and phone.

One caveat is the hands-free mic. Which is decent enough for the wearer, but when actually making calls – those on the receiving end complained about difficulty hearing me. The experience is much better when using the provided cable with in-line mic.

Verdict

Overall, the Beats by Dr. Dre Solo2 Wireless Headphones is a fantastic option if you are looking to cut the cord. They sound just as good as the wired version and you actually get the best of both worlds. Comfort, sound, and design is identical to the wired version of the Solo2. We do wish the mic was better for making hands-free calls. But that gripe aside, there is always the ability to plug in the wire with included in-line remote if you really need to make a phone call while using your Solo2. Right now the Beats by Dr. Dre Solo2 Wireless Headphones is available for $299 and comes in white, black and blue.

The Good: Same great sound, design, and comfort as the wired version of the wired Solo2. You have both a wireless and wired option. Battery absolutely lasts 12 hours.

The Bad: Mic is poor for making hands-free calls.
