Bars+Lounges : USA : LA : New Orleans Arnaud's French 75 Bar

Bars+Lounges : USA : LA : New Orleans Arnaud's French 75 Bar

About Arnaud's French 75 Bar
The light inside Arnaud’s bar might as well be sepia toned. The room, with its massive wood bar back, animal print chairs and table lamps held up by monkey figurines, feels like a relic from the age before Temperance leagues made America feel guilty about having fun. Most nights, you’ll find the dapper, young Chris Hannah manning the bar in his white jack and black bow tie. Hannah was one of the first New Orleans bartenders to revive forgotten historic cocktails and give them a contemporary spin. He remains one of the city’s best. Perhaps more importantly, Hannah also has resurrected an old-school approach to hospitality.

This classy little bar may sit just off of Bourbon Street, but in temperament, it is a thousand miles away. The comfortable chairs, whimsical monkey lamps, tiled floor and gleaming wooden bar call to mind a classic French bistro.

Head bartender Chris Hannah has made a name for himself in the Crescent City and beyond for mastering the classics and for his own creative concoctions. The bar is attached to the French-Creole restaurant Arnaud’s, and serves a few of the best things that restaurant dishes out, such as the soufflé potatoes and raw oysters.

Tip: Order the namesake cocktail, a French 75, here and taste how it should be made: cognac, fresh squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, topped with cold champagne and a lemon twist.

Arnaud's French 75 Bar Review By Joi B. : New Orleans, LA
In the *spirit* of Tales of the Cocktail, the time has come for me to at long last review Arnaud's French 75 after several visits.

It won't come as any surprise to any of you that I'm going to mention that this place is really just perfect as they come. Let's review what I love most about a cocktail bar :

swanky surroundings (check)
expertly mixed cocktails (check)
expertly mixed *classics* (check)

add on incredibly affordable prices for those expertly mixed cocktails and swanky surroundings and you've got the 5th star.

Chris Hannah and his compadres behind the bar are a class act. You already knew that. It stands repeating.

The whole operation conjures up the sophistication of the King Cole Room in the St. Regis sans the snooty NY East Side 'tude. Well, this is New Orleans and there is no place for that! Come as you are and thrill in the vibe... it's a friendly place, too.
