AROUND NEW ORLEANS
Le Pavillon Hotel
With a history stretching back to the Gilded Age and impeccable décor throughout, Le Pavillon Hotel piques the imagination in a way that even the emperor himself would applaud. Located in the heart of downtown New Orleans, Hotel Le Pavillon sits adjacent to the historic French Quarter, only five short blocks to the celebrated music clubs of Bourbon Street and the famous restaurants and antique shops of Royal Street.
Within a five-minute walk you can find yourself at the Louisiana Superdome for a NFL Saints football game or at the New Orleans Arena for a world-class concert or NBA Hornets basketball game. If your travel to New Orleans is conference related, you will be pleased to know that Le Pavillon is only eight blocks to the Morial Convention Center, the largest convention center in Louisiana. During Carnival season in New Orleans, Le Pavillon Hotel is an ideal location as Mardi Gras parades roll only two blocks away from the grand entrance of this classic hotel.
Built in 1907, Le Pavillon Hotel is a member of Historic Hotels of America and maintains membership in the Leading Hotels of the World. Le Pavillon Hotel has been the proud recipient of AAA's four-diamond award since 1996. Out of hundreds of eligible New Orleans Hotels, Le Pavillon Hotel was named to the "Gold List" by Conde Nast for 2005.
In a world of steel-and-glass skyscrapers and cookie-cutter design, the age of grand hotels seems long gone. A rare exception: Le Pavillon Hotel. A place where guests can instantly conjure the days of genteel luxury, romantic evenings and glittering nights. We invite you to join us here at "the belle of New Orleans".
Slim Goodies Diner
About Slim Goodies Diner
We were already partial to this place, but when they busted out some heroic culinary moves practically days after Katrina, they won our hearts forever. (They dodged anxious health inspectors by serving only fried eggs and other easy-cleanup items on plastic dinnerware.) The comeback pioneers quickly became a meeting place for stressed-out locals (as shown on HBO's Treme). Come for classic diner food with clever modern-diner names like "Low Carbonator" and burgers named after famous folks, though we aren't sure why the Robert Johnson has bacon and blue cheese. The menu features large salads, omelets, and even sweet-potato pancakes and a biscuit topped with étouffée. It's a fine, fun stop for breakfast while you're shopping Uptown.
Slim Goodies Diner Review By Kim N. : Lenexa, KS
I can't explain how much I love this place. It is a local diner we stumbled upon a few years ago at some ungodly hour and we were starving and needed greasy food.
Every time we are in NOLA we now eat breakfast here or stop in for a quick bite. They have the best grits. I usually get the eggs done however you want, bacon, toast and grits. Hubby gets the pecan waffles or the Orleans Slammer.
The staff is great, friendly and fast. This is my idea of the 50's greasy diner and the food is always good.
The decor is totally dive diner, but clean and comfy. It is almost like grandma's kitchen. You walk in and sit down get comfortable order you food, eat and talk to the locals. The staff are a riot.
Next time you are in NOLA this is a must stop for you. Be aware though they are cash only so bring money. No checks or cards here.

Gold Mine Saloon Review By Marcelle S. : Seattle, WA
Greetings!
I love LOVE the Goldmine! I am a native so it was my hang out in College in the 90s and still go when I am visiting New Orleans.
I like the old and unique aspect of this bar. It doesn't have Karaoke so the crowd comes to dance and be social. They have the craziest things on the ceiling and on the walls. The decor is barrel tables, flags and other strange things which makes it unique.
They play music from 80s to modern. They have a dance floor way in the back. The DJ will play your request which is a nice change. Tips always help too! :) I popped in during Xmas and one of my old College buddies is now the DJ. How funny is that!
They have the most awesome drink called "Flaming Dr. Pepper". Yummmmy! They also do "Spin the Wheel" special but there isn't any really Happy Hour. The drinks in New Orleans is so ridiculously cheap compared to Seattle, that I don't seek out Happy Hours.
I always pay in Cash there so I couldn't tell you the Credit Card responsibility. However, I read in another review they had a minimal charge of $20. Seattle has a minimal charge in bars as well as coffee shops. So, I would think New Orleans would be the same.
The Manager David is super sweet and has great customer service. He is great at managing crowd control and will jump behind the bar to help keep the drinks moving.
The location is right off of Bourbon and is haunted by the locals. During major city events it is over ran by tourist. Usually, the locals move the party some place else til we can have our bar back. They open a second bar on the weekends and during holidays to help with the crowd control.
I hope this helps! And yes, I am a girl. :)
Cheers!
One Eyed Jacks
About One Eyed Jacks
With its bordello-flavored decor (red flocked wallpaper, anyone?), Jack's is both a hip nightspot and funky club, with its tiered main level, proscenium stage, and crowded bar in the middle of the whole thing -- all overlooked by a cozy balcony. The stepped setting and easy alcohol access pretty much invite people to fall on top of each other. Not that that's a bad thing. Bookings favor local and international alternative rock and indie songwriters, plus the Saturday's ever-popular tough tender Fleur de Tease burlesque show. The three-ring psychodrama game show cabaret circus known as the New Orleans Bingo! Show makes occasional appearances here. If they do, so should you. You might like it, you might not, but you surely won't see anything else like it.
One Eyed Jacks Review By : Lynn M. : St Petersburg, FL
Love One Eyed Jacks - there is a small bar up front - I don't think you have to pay a cover to just drink there.
The stage where bands play I would describe as medium capacity? Not as tiny as some of the clubs, but not as large as a theater show.
I've only ended up there "on purpose" as in, someone I love is playing and I make it a point to go. The acts they book really run the gammit so I wouldn't just say "check out whoever is playing".
The sound is always immaculate. The bar in the music room gets crowded but is always handled amazingly well - bar keeps ALWAYS notice you within seconds of approaching the bar. Even if they can't wait on you immediately, the eye contact is made and you know that they know you exist and soon enough, there's your bevvy! Always friendly and good strong drinks.
Even the doorman that seems to be there regularly is really nice. We've been on a couple guest lists under a wrong or misspelled name and he always digs a little deep to get it cleared up. Also, when we've supposed to have been on a list and are not, he has let us get in to talk to who we were supposed to talk to, to get it figured out. So nice and not always the case with a doorman.
Love the decor, the venue size and the service.
If someone you want to see at One Eyed Jacks is playing there, definitely check it out.
Oh, another reivewer mentioned the Eric Lindell/Stanton Moore (Dragonsmoke) show during Fest. They play it annually and its always amazing - if you are in town during Fest, try to catch them at One Eyed Jacks.

The Super Bowl is coming to town and so is the party. Come party with the masses on Friday 2/01/13. This type of event only comes to New Orleans every now and then. Make sure you are part of the party everyone will be talking about the week after.
Road to Ultra New Orleans Review By KHAL
We’re not sure how many of you engage in EDM-related Super Bowl parties, but if you’re in New Orleans, the site of next month’s Super Bowl XLVIII, there are two “mini-events” going down, prepping hungry ravers for March’s Ultra Music Festival.
On February 1st, Steve Aoki and NERVO will be touching down at The Metropolitan, while Afrojack and Doc Martin will be at the Ampersand on February 2nd. This is a pretty sick way to drum interest in the 2013 UMF, and should be great for EDM-loving sports fans who don’t want to sit through bland events during what’s sure to be a hectic weekend.
