The Atlanta-based rapper Ludacris ’ hometown Falcons did not
make it into Super Bowl XLVII . But apparently at the last minute, Tipitina’s
reps say, he decided to get in on the weekend action in New Orleans anyway, and
booked a performance (sponsored by Heineken and Patron) at the venerable Uptown
music club.
Luda has been on the Dirty South scene since 2000, when the
then-newly established Def Jam South subsidiary repackaged his independent
debut album for a quick trip all the way up the Billboard charts. Since then,
his boisterous, rowdy, fun style on the mic has earned him multiple top 10 hits
both on his own and as a high-profile guest on tracks with the likes of Missy
Elliott , Mariah Carey, LL Cool J and others. (He’s also carved out the time to
establish an acting career , most notably in the “Fast & The Furious”
franchise, and to open a restaurant in Atlanta.)
