Gadgets : Phillips 2-in-1 Display Monitor

Gadgets : Phillips 2-in-1 Display Monitor

Studies have claimed that using two displays makes you more efficient than using one, and many people find them more comfortable than a single display set up. The problem is how much desk space they take -- having two monitors propped up requires a lot of space, and that's a problem for some, especially those limited to a cubical or other tiny work areas. Enter the Philips Two-in-One monitor, which is exactly what it sounds like: a single monitor made of two displays, conserving desk real estate while increase one's screen space.

The Philips Two-in-One monitor features a pair of 19-inch displays, and when combined they offer 30+ inches of display real estate. There's a single stand upon which they both sit, however, and a very thin seam between the two displays, effectively making for a conservative dual-display setup.

There's an LED backlight and each 19-inch display features a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels. Colors come in at 16.7 million, the brightness is 250 cd/m2, and the contrast ratio is 20,000,000:1. Between each display is a couple millimeter seam, and each one is turned inward somewhat, making for an almost-curved monitor.

There are built-in speakers and a webcam, as well as USB 2.0 ports. Overall, the display itself is mid-tier, but the way it presents two displays on a single stand makes it stand out from the other options.
