Technically speaking, the current Corvette Z06 was built to be a road-legal version of the track-going Corvette C7 race car. But Chevy wanted to up their own ante, and are introducing the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition.
Inspired by the beloved endurance race car, this thing is essentially a street-legal race car. Sporting the Z07 performance package, the 2-door is equipped with a supercharged V8 engine pumping out 650 horsepower, high-tech magnetic shock absorbers, and massive carbon ceramic brakes on all 4 corners for that “stop on a dime” stopping power. It will only available in two different color schemes – either yellow with black, or black with yellow – paying homage to Corvette’s factory racing effort. The road-legal version looks strikingly similar to the C7.R race car (which can be seen in the photos), and features bright yellow brake calipers, black wheels with a matching yellow lip, and plenty of carbon fiber accents all throughout. Chevy plans on keeping the model limited, with only 500 examples being released this year.
