Who Is The Door Cinema Club?
You may have recently found yourself watching the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony wondering just who the singer was performing on the centre stage, whilst the torch was being lit to ‘Caliban’s Dream’ composed by Underworld? The lucky singer was Alex Trimble, lead vocalist from the Northern Irish indie-pop band Two Door Cinema Club. His ear-catching vocal talent had caught the attention of Danny Boyle, the Artistic Director of the Opening Ceremony. Boyle hand picked Alex to perform at the event, however the singer did not quite believe he had been asked to perform and originally thought the invitation was just a dream.

Two Door Cinema Club have had a meteoric rise to fame since the University dropouts, who formed in 2007, achieved mainstream commercial success with their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Tourist History’. The band which consists of Alex Trimble, Kevin Baird and Sam Halliday are due to return with the release of their highly anticipated second studio album ‘Beacon’ and lead single ‘Sleep Alone’. A follow up to their infectious, upbeat debut album released in 2010, littered with attention-hogging choruses. The forthcoming album sees the trio team up with Jacknife Lee, one of music’s most sought after producers, having worked with the likes of U2, Bloc Party, Snow Patrol and The Black Keys.

Signed to hip Parisian record label Kitsuné, their sound is a lively combination of indie, electro and pop. Deep, mind-delving lyrics may be absent from their uplifting, energetic and refreshing songs, but the band has established themselves successfully on radio station airwaves, graced the stages of the biggest summer festivals around and their music has featured in a number of television advertisements and film soundtracks.
