The French Caribbean Island of St Barths has become teh go-to destination for luxury travel in the West Indies.
St Barts offers today's savvy tourists 27 pristine white-sand beaches, a heavenly average temperature of 28°C ( 82° F) in winter and 30°C (86 °F) in summer, and an environment as peaceful and welcoming as it is beautiful.
An Idyllic Island
Saint-Barthélémy (or St Barths, as it is commonly known) is situated towards the northern end of the chain of islands that make up the Lesser Antilles. The island was named by Christopher Columbus after his brother, Bartolomeo, and is considered by many to be the most beautiful island in the Caribbean.
Today, St Barths is a French colony that boasts pristine white-sand beaches, calm turquoise waters, stylish and luxurious accommodations and fine dining.Original Travel consultants have stayed on (and sailed round) St Barths on numerous occasions, and can offer first hand suggestions on the best places to stay and best things to do while visiting.
Refined Luxury Shopping
When it comes to shopping, St Barths is on the cutting edge, keeping up with the latest fashion trends from Europe in clothes, shoes, accessories, art and music. The island, which is duty free, overflows with luxury fashion, jewelry, apothecary, and home décor boutiques, to mention a few. Alongside the shops filled with the most coveted brands, you will also find local designers. Refinement and originality are the keywords.
St Barths also has a well-developed service sector. Local professionals offer exceptional massages, yoga, personal fitness training, beauty and spa treatments, catering, private chef service, event planning and more.
Performing art festivals (music, film, theater) punctuate island life throughout each calendar year.
Night Life, with a French Touch
Those who like to hit the town will find a wide variety of bars, clubs and various venues for late nights out. The many options offer a unique atmosphere to fit any mood : a restaurant's bar for drinks before or after dinner, a swanky lounge, or somewhere special to enjoy the music of local bands (favorites of late include Ti St Barth in Pointe Milou, Bonito or Bagatelle in Gustavia).
Trendy nightclubs where guests can drink, dance and stay out until dawn include the Yacht Club with its "Live Screen Concerts", Casa Nikki in Gustavia, and more.. Whether its dinner, music, or a party on the beach with friends, a night on St Barths is always magical.
The Saline Beach
The path to Saline Beach, though short, can be a bit tricky, but it is well worthwhile to visit, especially if you enjoy nude sunbathing. Take a left from the path to find the unofficial swimwear-optional section of the beach.Even if you decide to leave the bikini behind, be sure to bring towels, umbrellas, food and drinks because there is no service or shade at Saline Beach.Use caution when swimming, this unprotected beach is windier and a bit rougher than others on the island.
The Colombier Beach
Colombier Beach tends to be one of St. Barths' most deserted remote stretches of sand because it can only be reached by boat from Gustavia or via hike from Flamands Beach.
Also known as Rockefeller Beach, Colombier is worlds away from the island's bustling capital, with calm waters, good snorkeling, and privacy aplenty.
It does lack services, however, so bring drinks, snacks, and other beach supplies. Locals often camp overnight here, as well.
