News : Robin Thicke 'Stopped Playing It Safe' With Miley

Robin Thicke has said that his and Miley Cyrus's controversial performance at the MTV Video Music Awards was a result of him not "playing it safe".

The 'Blurred Lines' singer told Vanity Fair that he has absolutely no regrets about his and Cyrus's sexually explicit appearance at the annual awards show.

"I spent my whole career playing it safe, being a gentleman, never doing anything controversial," Thicke said.

"They told me [beforehand] that Miley's going to take her clothes off and dance around and she might bend over... I just said, 'I don't care, let's entertain the people'."

Thicke added that he and Cyrus were fully aware that their performance would shock many television viewers.

"[I thought] 'Let's give them something they're not ready for. Let's make them talk'," he commented.

Thicke previously insisted that he "wouldn't change a thing" about his and Cyrus's collaboration.

Cyrus parodied the controversy in her promos for this weekend's Saturday Night Live.
