News: Taylor Swift's Red Was 2012's Only Triple-Platinum Album

Taylor Swift's album Red was the only 2012 release to be certified triple platinum by the RIAA, according to a report released Tuesday (Jan. 29). The award signifies 3 million shipments of the album, which was released in October.

In addition, Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" was certified triple platinum in December for 3 million digital downloads. The report noted Swift has sold more than 37 million digital singles since her career began in 2006.

Among country albums released in 2012, platinum certifications were earned by Jason Aldean's Night Train, Lionel Richie's Tuskegee and Carrie Underwood's Blown Away for shipments of 1 million copies.

Although they were released earlier than 2012, the following albums were also certified platinum last year: Luke Bryan's Tailgates & Tanlines, Kenny Chesney's Greatest Hits II, Eric Church's Chief, Scotty McCreery's Clear as Day and Tim McGraw's Number One Hits. Meanwhile, Hunter Hayes enjoyed his first gold album, signifying 500,000 units shipped of his self-titled project.

The RIAA certified 139 digital songs as platinum in 2012. First-time recipients include Eric Church's "Springsteen," Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise," Little Big Town's "Pontoon," Love and Theft's "Angel Eyes," Kip Moore's "Somethin' 'Bout a Truck" and Jerrod Niemann's "Lover, Lover." Meanwhile, first-time recipients of gold singles, marking 500,000 singles sold, include Pistol Annies' "Hell on Heels" and Jana Kramer's "Why Ya Wanna."
